So who ISN'T getting this game? Because I will assume everyone of rational thought will be buying this.

If my home PC wasn't dead or if my laptop met recommended spec (running the beta on minimum settings was still unplayably laggy), I would have preordered this a long time ago.

From a buddy whose machine didn't crap out: If you were looking for a largely new game with tons of new-gen RTS features, this is not it. If what you wanted was more along the lines of another expansion for the OG Starcraft (plus graphics update), you'll do fine. He fell into the latter camp, I obviously do not.

I will be getting mine when i go to work tomorrow.  We've got a midnight sale tonight, but i won't get time to play it until Wednesday anyway, so no big hurry to get it tonight.

Even if it is the same game with newer graphics, i will be a happy monkey.

I'll be getting this for sure too, so many classes skipped to play the first one in the computer lab...

Although I've seen gameplay footage, and I'm not sure, it looks all so fluid and monochrome, blue maps with blue units, everything looked the same. But visuals apart, the gameplay should still kick ass.

Starcraft is a real-time strategy game, often considered the best ever made (often considered one of the best computer/video games ever made).  It was released in 1998, but is still played heavily online today.  In South Korea it is hugely popular - there large scale tournaments with audiences, and state-sponsored teams, (it's a much bigger cultural phenomenon there than magic is here).  I think you'd like it Stephen, on the one hand it's just a fun game, but at a competitive level there are layers of strategy and anti strategy, information wars, resource management, math,  mind games, and a constantly evolving metagame.  At the same time a ton of technical skill and mental discipline is required to compete.  I'm not that great, but you test like anything else, and there are some strong players on #tmd that give great advice (though almost all of the Finkels and LSVs live in Korea).  Starcraft 2 comes out today! and it's as if Wizards stopped making expansions a decade ago (there were multiple starcraft one balance updates/expansions), and all of a sudden said "Magic 2 is coming soon!" ... it's a big deal!

Gamage begins at 8pm for me after my daughter goes to bed.
Basically my whole company (we are small) will be playing remotely.

Anyone know how the quality works for LAN parties, because I am hosting one Sunday and it better not suck.

My brother gets his birthday gift today finally.  His birthday was a while ago but SC2 wasn't out then.

Oh, and I'm getting a copy for myself as well.

Vintage is a lovely format, it's too bad so few people can play because the supply of power is so small.

Chess really changed when they decided to stop making Queens and Bishops.  I'm just glad I got my copies before the prices went crazy.

Last I heard Starcraft 2 didn't support LAN, I think you're stuck sharing bandwidth over Battle.net ... sorry dude Sad

I know we all have to be logged onto battle.net, but I am still hoping that quality will be reasonably high.

I am so bad at RTS games that I would expect the clerk at the store to make fun of me for even bothering to buy it. I'm that bad.

I've actually never played the original Starcraft, but I've gotten throttled enough times on Age of Empires and its progeny to know when to give up.

Yup, playing it now.  I am really enjoying the game so far... it has the feel of the original with the cut scenes and the same game mechanics but with improved graphics and additional gameplay.

In fact, since it comes with two trial passes (each allows 7 hrs of game time, or 14 days, whichever comes first), the first two people to PM me can have the codes.
Please note that you will have to download the client (which is something huge - 16GB), and you will also have to create a Battle.net account.

It's good so far, though learning the new tech trees and hotkeys is a bummer.  My laptop is only two years old and it's struggling a bit.

I played multi-player vs AI a lot last night and had a blast.  Having 6 levels of AI is a huge improvement because it allowed me to player against a smarter AI.
Also there is a Faster mode so the games are faster.

I was stuck playing AI because my buddy had difficulty with his video drivers and did not finish installing till late.

Game is sooooo much fun.  I played all through beta too, now have been going through single-player even tho you have to play as crappy terran (Z >>> T).  Plus the multiplayer is really good and really a great evolution of SC and WC3 combined.

Also, Steve, in addition to all that Andy said, there are also multiple TV channels which are pretty much dedicated to the game.  It's essentially the national sport of South Korea.

Got it yesterday, I remove what I said about the gameplay graphics, they are stunning.

Story mode is MASSIVE! I like how you really slowly discover and upgrade your technology.

Also went to do some madness and other fake games online, god I missed those.

I know know achievements are all the rage, but crap there is a lot of those.

Today I did a flashback gaming day. Played pretty much non-stop for 8 hours eating only frozen food and chips. That takes me back.

If my computer could run it, i'd be playing right now Sad
Still have the original one installed.

It's definetly top 5 on my "Best games ever" list. (SC1 haven't played SC2 yet)

Edit: Oh and i'm almost shocked that there are 2 people on TMD who did not know what starcraft is....That's like saying that you don't know what baseball is.

I think I also have a trial code available if a fellow TMDer wants it. Not sure if those trial codes are region-locked, though, if this is the case mine are for Europe. PM me if interested.

I saw that a bunch of businesses in South Korea are giving people the day off when this released, because they knew the south koreans were just going to call in sick anyways.
