I just wanted to say that LaPille's article today to cap off 'Modern Week' is again really terrible.  I seriously question his fitness for contributing to format defining decisions.

*   *   *

-"Only time will tell."  It's telling you now!  You took a popular new format and made it an unpopular new format.  Then you start telling us all about how it's the new-ness that's important, and how we want 'guidance' from Pros.

This man speaks truth.  I had exactly the same reactions when I read that steaming pile of an article.  "Gosh, our ocean liner is tanking really fast, right after we jammed that iceburg into it.  Well, our plan is to have an iceburg stuck in the side of the ship, so that cant be the problem.  Don't worry, it only LOOKS like it is sinking, it'll get better over time."  It read like one big, long, really lame excuse and plea not to abandon the format.

The format still has potential.  It needs a cardpool that controls and slows the format dynamically instead of just whacking combos dead.  Force of Will might not be good, since if you print that it becomes ubiquitous in all blue decks.  Ditto Mental Misstep.  We need more cards on the level of Disrupting Shoal and Stony Silence; more narrowish but potent early game disruption to stop fast combo.

-"We are supporting Modern at high levels next year."  <Slow clap.>  You completely missed the point of Modern.  Look at the first article you yourself wrote about Modern: Legacy is getting too expensive, additional support will only make it more expensive.  Modern is a manageably cheap alternative not limited by the reserve list.  If you are going to do reprints at some point, why should I buy in now?  DO THE REPRINTS NOW.  IF YOU WANT IT TO BECOME A POPULAR FORMAT REMOVE ALL BARRIERS TO HAVING IT BECOME A POPULAR FORMAT.  All I see is an attempt to spread out demand, when you guys control the SUPPLY.  Supporting Modern does not mean holding tournaments, it means getting people to play.

...also this.  The price of cards has just gotten stupid over the last twenty-four months in particular.  Duals went from 20-30 to 60-100.  What. The. Hell.  Goyf and friends inclusive.  However, I bet you that Wizards is simply planning to get to all the staple reprints, but to slow-roll them to drive sales of whatever product they're printed in.

Yeah.  I even wrote MaRo and Aaron today asking if Tom should even be allowed to talk anymore.  This is the man that said the solution to Mental Misstep in Legacy was Great Stable Stag.  So..., yeah, he's a fool.

Yeah, everyone knows the tech answer to Misstep is Storm Crow.

I was really tempted to send in some mail on this article as well, but I restrained myself precisely because the article came off so badly.  I don't like the idea of writing a letter to someone with a frown on my face - probably gonna say something to harshly.  Far better to find an article with interesting things to ask questions about, like when Tebek updates Oracle.  Ultimately, WotC isn't going to respond to hate mail.  They'll respond to people voting with their pocketbooks.

So lets all agree not to pay more than $20.00 for Goyfs, pretty please?

Every time Tom LaPille writes about Modern, I feel like I'm being trolled.  I mean, her's his article in a nutshell

"Everyone thinks we killed Modern, but we really made it better, so play"

The End

seriously?

I agree with DubDub's "not-a-rant".  Make with the reprints and stop insulting the intelligence of the players.

Latest Developments today not written by Tom LaPille.  I wonder what can be read into that, if anything.

PDS: Graveborn is spoiled.  Little of Vintage interest other than foil Animate Deads for WGD.  Had this been released prior to BSC, the foil Tinkerbots would have been nice.

Entomb is also playable in WGD.  And, heck, for 25 a pop preorder I'm perfectly happy with my new shiny tinkerbots, thankyouverymuch.  This is probably the best PDS they've designed yet.  One of the big things it has going for it is that, unlike with Fire and Lightning, you don't need 4x all of the cards in this deck to play competitively.  One tinkerbot apiece is all a new player needs.

A place called Heights of Gaming out of New York.  I don't know if I can link to them, and it looks like they're sold out of Graveborn now anyway.

Unless these foils retail for $400.00 or more, it's better NOT to have spent all that money on plane fare and hotel costs just to take crap from teenagers all weekend.  Just buy em second hand.

The guy that posted in salvation that only 1,000 will be released over an entire year is completely wrong.  As someone who first revealed several of the Judge foils to the secondary market, I've literally held bricks of foils before they were "released."

LaPille is moving to D&D.  At the risk of sounding crass: yippee!  I hope Zac doesn't take up the mantle of 'gentleman's agreement,' 'we considered preemptively restricting Preordain,' 'if blue is a problem in Legacy why doesn't Great Sable Stag see more play,' and most recently 'Modern is awesome, trust me you sheep.'

Comic Book promo that is also likely part of Dark Ascension. The card is known for a week+ ... sometimes I wonder if this site isn't already dead due to the delayed info flow...

Snapcaster Mage did not have any adequate discussion here too...

Thumb up LotusHead to cause Traffic ^^

To be fair, there was some question as to whether this card was legit or not.  I think it's definately best not to post something here before it's been confirmed for sure.  That's why I didn't bring it up.

As to the card, it looks like a total winner in Legacy Dredge.  I don't think Vintage will be able to use it.

Seconded.  As a general rule I don't talk about fight club cards that I will never, never, cast.  (In any of the formats that I play.)

I think the best part about it is that, conceptually, this is a freaking amazing draw spell for Red.  Draw two cards?  Discard...not randomly?  Blue is the king of draw spells, but now Red has a shot at turning a hand with too much land into 2 more guys/2 more burns.  Without moving to Blue for filtering.  That's really awesome.  If I played Burn I would strongly consider running this card, as it will usually say "Discard two land cards: hit a bitch for 6 or more."

The card in the first issue will be Treasure Hunt.

source

Examiner also confirms that "Issue #2 of IDW's Magic: the Gathering comic book series will feature Faithless Looting, an exclusive preview card from Wizards of the Coast's upcoming expert Magic: the Gathering expansion set Dark Ascension."

I'm assuming the card in Issue 3 will be vampire related as that is what is on the front cover, and so far the first 2 cards pieces of art are just the covers to the comics.

As Careful Study 1-4 (being better than the original), this would see play in Vintage Dredge if Bazaar became restricted.  Definitely something to remember, even if it's not immediately playable.

I am curious as to whom would be his opposite though.

This card came out in worldwake and I thought the same at the time but the card didn't do anything to Legacy/vintage. I don't see that changing.
