I'm proud to present N.Y.S.E. XVII, a production paid for by viewers like you:

When:

Saturday, August 27th, 2011
Registration will begin at 11:00 AM
First round will begin promptly at 12:00 PM

What:

$30, 15 proxy non-sanctioned Vintage tournament. Deck registration sheets will be in use. First place prize is guaranteed.  All additional prizes are guaranteed at 34 entrants.

The prize structure will be as follows:

1st: Beta Mox Jet
2nd: 2x Underground Sea
3rd/4th: Force of Will
5th/8th: TBA
9th: Mystery Prize, to be autographed by the top 8

As always, prizes will be scaled up with attendance.

Side Events:

Eight man, single elimination, side events will be available throughout the day. Signups for the first event will begin after round four of the main event. Entry fee is $10, with the prize breakdown being $60 dealer credit to 1st, $20 dealer credit to 2nd.

Player of the Year Race:

Starting on 1/8 there will be a Player of the Year race. Points will be accumulated based on match wins (3 points) and draws (1 point.) The event will run from 1/8/11 - 12/31/11. The winner of the race wins free admission to all N.Y.S.E. tournaments for 2012. Updates will be posted in the tournament reports for the tournaments.

The point structure will be as follows:

1st: 12 points
2nd: 9 points
3rd: 6 points
4th: 6 points
5th: 3 points
6th: 3 points
7th: 3 points
8th: 3 points

May the best player win!

Where:

Brothers Grim Games & Collectibles

Selden, N.Y.

Store website:

http://brgrim.com/index.htm

I know that this event competes with GP Pittsburgh.  It's not the best day in the world to run an event, but August is booked, and this is what was open to me.  Prize support is set, and the Mox Jet is guaranteed.  The remaining prize support (2nd-4th) is guaranteed at 34 players.

I'm putting a lower barrier on this one because I don't know what the Grand Prix is going to do to my attendance.  I lost several players to the SCG Open in Pittsburgh, along with the PTQ in Rhode Island, on 7/30.  I'm going to work to ensure that the attendance for this event is great, but I think that by setting this minimum threshold, players will know that they're going to still be competing for an awesome prize.

I知 looking forward to seeing you all on the 27th for another day of Vintage on Long Island!

Prize support for this event has been confirmed, and, as always, will be upgraded with attendance.

Who's coming?

Word on the street is the Nick Coss bus is planning to stay Saturday night and return Sunday morning. Unfortunately I need to be back in work 10 am Sunday morning (my last week of work, no call-outs allowed if I want to get my severance) so unless I can find alternate transportation I'll have to skip this one.  Sad

If anybody else from the Philly area is planning to go and return Saturday night let me know.

Worst case scenario I can fire up the Glackin bus for the drive. As much as I hate driving anywhere near New York, my Vintage addiction supersedes it. If I can get three other people the cost would be about $20/person for gas/tolls. If anybody's interested let me know.

OK, it looks like the Glackin bus will be making the drive with Josh Butker and the man, the myth, the lenend John Jones in tow. There's room for one more. The plan is to leave from my house in the Philly suburbs at about 8 am Saturday morning and return Saturday night. $20 should cover your share of gas and tolls. If interested let me know.

I drove down to Long Island today, and the weather report seems to be that we won't see any adverse weather until Sunday. I still plan on going and playing, and being a man and not letting a little thing like a hurricane stop me from winning a beta mox jet.

Safety is always the first concern.

I checked the weather reports today and the general consensus is that the storm isn't going to get bad until Sunday:

I'm going ahead with the event.  If you sit it out because of your concerns regarding the weather, I promise I won't hold it against you.

See you guys on Saturday.

UPDATE:

Due to Hurricane Irene and concerns for everyone's safety, The NYSE Beta Mox Jet tournament is cancelled.

Nick Detwiler (Prospero) is at work right now so he does not have access to TMD so he asked me to post this.  He is working to put a smaller and more local event together that will start (and end) earlier tomorrow.  Expect details to be posted here later tonight.  If you were planning on travelling to the NYSE tournament from out of state, take a look at the weather information before you decide to travel.  I have been persuaded to stay home, where I will be safe and now with nothing to do, drunk.

Lame, but I understand. Driving home 100+ miles in a hurricane is the nut low.

Guys, my deepest apologies to all of you.  I know that many of you took time off from work, or, in the case of JR, are already here.  I, obviously, didn't intend for this, but the severity of this hurricane is not something that I'd like to underestimate when people's safety is potentially in jeopardy.

Tomorrow afternoon, at 1pm, there will be a Mark's Comics Vintage tournament.  This tournament will be over by 6pm.

The info:

Where:

Mark's Comics and Collectibles
291 North Central Ave
Valley Stream, N.Y.
516-872-5919

When:

1pm - 6pm
There will be no side events

What:

$10 entry, 15 proxy, non-sanctioned Vintage tournament.
1st place prize is probably going to be a FTV: Legends box set, guaranteed at 10 players.
Additional prizes of packs, duals, or whatever Mark has available will be decided on site.

Beyond that, tomorrow night my home town of Oceanside is being evacuated (south of Sunrise Highway.)  If there's anybody out there that wouldn't mind putting up Shawn Anthony and I for a couple of nights, it would be greatly appreciated.  I'll buy dinner/drinks/etc.

The N.Y.S.E. tournament series has survived two tanker fires on the Long Island Expressway, a blizzard and more.  Figures that it would be felled by a woman, no?
