First things first: I’d like to thank the 31 players who came out to battle Vintage yesterday at Brothers Grim. We had a stacked top 8, but in the end Allen Fulmer’s East Coast Wins proved it’s name prescient.
Complete Metagame Breakdown:
Mana Drains:
Cobra Storm: 2 Bob Control: 1 East Coast Wins: 3 Stasis: 1 Minus Six: 1 Minus Seven (Minus Six with Oath board instead): 1 DeMars Control: 1 Keeper: 1 U/R Magus: 1 U/R/B Tezz(es): 1 Meandeck Gush: 1 4CC: 1 U/R/B Painter: 1
Bazaar of Baghdads:
Sun Titan Dredge: 3 Probe Dredge: 1
Dark Rituals:
Forino Sui Black: 1 Suicide Black w/ Drain Life: 1
Mishra’s Workshops:
Metalworker MUD: 1 Cat Stax: 1 Cat Stax Fever: 1 Espresso Stax: 2
Null Rods:
Elves!: 1 RWB Fish: 1 Noble Fish: 1
So apparently this is what happens when you are hell bent on beating Shops. We had myriad interpretations of blue decks, and Shops were virtually shut out, in Shop country nonetheless. Dredge was a popular call and it’s understandable – Sun Titan Dredge is one of the fastest and most powerful decks in the format. The most exciting thing, for me at least, was the rebirth of Forino Sui Black, which tore through Gush decks all day long.
Top 8 Pairings and Results:
Allen Fulmer vs. Paul Mastriano – Fulmer wins Vincent Forino vs. David Earley – Forino wins Jake Gans vs. Jonathan Varelakis – Gans wins Shawn Anthony vs. Mike Hajduk – Anthony wins
Top 4 Pairings and Results:
Allen Fulmer vs. Jake Gans – Fulmer wins Vincent Forino vs. Shawn Anthony – Forino wins
Finals:
Allen Fulmer vs. Vincent Forino – Fulmer wins
Congratulations to Allen Fulmer, Vincent Forino and all of my top 8 competitors.

9th Place Prize:
Congratulations to Ryan Glackin; I can see your future, and it involves some very shitty rares...
Player of the Year Race:
The PotY standings will be updated sometime in the next 48 hours or so (hopefully.) If not, I’m going to have to do them when I get back from GenCon.
In Conclusion:
My sincere thanks to Gil, Frank, and all the staff of Brothers Grim – you guys make these events excellent, to Nick Coss who isn’t just a nice guy, but is also a dealer extraordinaire, to Brian Paskoff, the best judge around and, most importantly, to all of my competitors – you are what makes Vintage the great format that it is.
Prize support for 8/27 has been set, and will be updated in the announcement forum. I hope to see everybody at the end of August!

I approve of this product and/or service. Final round unintentional draws into 9th place, it's a beautiful thing! East Coast Takes Hours! Here it is in all its glory, my 9th place Cat Stax Fever deck list. You'll find it has many similarities to the 8th place list. Deck: 4 Phyrexian Metamorph 4 Slash Panther 1 Black Lotus 4 Lodestone Golem 1 Mana Crypt 1 Mana Vault 1 Mox Emerald 1 Mox Jet 1 Mox Pearl 1 Mox Ruby 1 Mox Sapphire 3 Null Rod 4 Phyrexian Revoker 1 Sol Ring 4 Sphere of Resistance 4 Tangle Wire 4 Thorn of Amethyst 1 Trinisphere 1 Wurmcoil Engine 4 Ancient Tomb 4 Mishra's Factory 4 Mishra's Workshop 1 Strip Mine 1 Tolarian Academy 4 Wasteland Sideboard: 4 Chalice of the Void 3 Jester's Cap 4 Precursor Golem 4 Relic of Progenitus

Final round unintentional draws into 9th place, it's a beautiful thing! East Coast Takes Hours! You Jester Capped me! I believe on turn 5 I had in my hand Drain, Force, Hurkyl's, etc. I had a ton of mana, I had an Ingot Chewer and Jace in play and another Chewer somewhere in my deck. Had the Cap been a Smokestack, you might have won that match! Those Demonic Consultations were epic! I think I should have sideboarded Leyline of the Void in against you, Vin! I didn't have anything else except Pyroclasm. Congrats to Allen and to East Coast Wins for winning another tournament

I had a blast at this tournament. It was unfortunate that attendance was compromised but as usual it was everything I hoped it would be, except for 32 players. We probably could have done without the drama of our car leaving us stranded in ny and getting it fixed while we all hung out in the parking lot but hey, this is a tourney we will never forget right?
As usual, great tourney Nick.

Another great event in New York!
Congrats to Allen Fulmer who continues the tradition of winning it all after eliminating me. Forino's deck looked pretty savage vs Sean Anthony in the top 4, and since Allen's deck is pretty much the same it looked pretty grim going into the finals. Nice work.

Great tourney, as always.
Was hoping to see more players though - was attendance down due to SCG Pittsburgh?

Possibly, and also worth noting that summer attendance is always bad for Vintage, or has been the past few years. The normal "monthly" events tend to dip 25-33%, or at least, Blue Bell always has.

Those were definitely some intense games - Lotus as 7th card off a consult is the stuff great stories are made of!! Leyline can be problematic depending on what type of game it turns into though they are usually just clunk a nimble combo pilot can navigate around. I have to re-evaluate my sb plan as well considering I usually don't need any help beating blue decks packing MD ancient grudges and various other useless cards.

I strongly considered boarding leylines in against vinnie, but I just felt like they wouldn't do enough vs what I would cut for them. I just brought in the pyroclasm. Which I used to kill a bob the turn after vinnie played it. Sick life.

the only times he killed me was with Will. And if you look at his deck, LotV would slow him down significantly.

Yeah game one he killed me with will too. And cabal therapy would be shut off. Hmm. I jus didn't want the dead draws in the midgame.

If Will is shut off all he has is Night's Whispers and Confidants to... outdraw us? (lol)

the only times he killed me was with Will. By the same logic you tinkered on me twice, should I start boarding in Shadow of Doubt? If you two know each other, take it to a private room

Calm down Vinnie haha. We know each other, we were playing the same 75. We were simply evaluating whether leyline is a legitiment sideboard strategy against your deck.
