Ah, man. And it was my first time using MTGMom. I missed that. Yeah, I'm going to talk to Shawn Griffiths and see if we can switch weekends on this, leaving him the 23rd and me the 29th.

With Blue Bell running that weekend I am now unable to run an event in October, or I must run against the PTQ.
I'm going to run against the PTQ.
So, the date remains. I hope to see you all then...

So, a serious note before some more information about this event. Being a Vintage T/O isn't the easiest thing in the world - there's a fair amount of risk in every event that I run and I have no guarantee that players are going to show up. I have a cast of regulars who show up all the time and I have some guys who come in and out of the format. The attendance for the last two N.Y.S.E.'s has been bad. We had 14 players last time before the judge, T/O and dealer all played. Of those 14, two were from Pennsylvania (thank you Ryan Glackin and Allen Fulmer), one was from Connecticut (thank you Mike Hajduk) and 11 were from New York. Of the 11 from New York I had 9 of my regulars and two new players. We have far more than 9 regular Vintage players on Long Island. I went through the Player of the Year Race standings post N.Y.S.E. XVI and counted 58 names of players who live in New York and are no more than 75 minutes from the tournament venue. I understand that there was a Vintage tournament in Bloomsburg that day, and I don't blame any of the New Jersey or Pennsylvania players for not showing up. I do, however, need more from the New York community in order to survive. 9 players? We're better than that. Over the course of the last two years I have run many events, lent out many thousands of dollars worth of cards, given cards away to players getting into the format, introduced as many people to Vintage as I could find and done everything that I could imagine to get a Vintage scene in New York up and running. So, please, tell me if there's something that's holding you back. Is there something that I'm not doing that I should be doing? Is there something wrong with the N.Y.S.E. events? Life commitments are always going to hold back some of the players that I've got from making the events that I run, I understand that. But for 49 other guys who live in the area to not show, when they've shown for events in the last year, is very surprising. There are guys in the community who have done a tremendous amount to get more players involved in Vintage (Matt Pate, James Hangley and more.) I wasn't the only person working to create a Vintage scene in New York. This is, was, and always will be a community effort. I need everyone if I'm going to be successful in creating a Vintage scene in New York. So, please, take part in the effort. Tell me if there's something that's holding you back. And let's get back to consistently having 40-50 man tournaments in lieu of these poorly attended disasters. I don't think the prize support on the last two N.Y.S.E.'s was poor (Unlimited Ancestral Recall and Unlimited Time Walk for the N.Y.S.E. in July, Beta Mox Jet for the N.Y.S.E. in September), but if you've got issues there, talk to me. Leaving all that aside, and moving forward, I have an announcement. The side event for the 10/29 N.Y.S.E. will be run with the following restrictions: Time Vault is banned Mana Drain is restricted Dark Ritual is restricted Mishra's Workshop is restricted Bazaar of Baghdad is restricted The discussion about this can be found on TMD here: http://www.themanadrain.com/index.php?topic=43180.msg593489#newIt's an interesting take. If it's successful I'd consider running more events like it in the future. All feedback is appreciated.

Nick, you always do a great job of running these events and I know you dont do it for any type of personal gain - you just want to see Vintage survive and thrive in your area and I think you do an incredible job of making it happen. Plus this is a pretty nice venue and its professionally run, so I dont think youre doing anything wrong. I'll more than likely be at this one. Hopefully that wont scare anyone away - there's enough prizes for a couple people to leave quite happy.

Since the Nick Coss bus will not be available for this event, I am looking to organize a caravan from my house in Croydon, PA (in between Bensalem and Bristol, just northeast of Philly) to drive to the event. If you're interested in riding along ship me a PM or hit me up on Facebook, etc. We'll do an even split of gas and tolls, which I'm estimating to be in the $90-$100 range. My car can seat 4 comfortably and 5 uncomfortably (i.e. somebody rides bitch). We'll probably stick around after the event for dinner somewhere, hopefully Port Royal Grille again.

You're a good man Glackin. If I have anybody reach out to me regarding a ride for this event, I'll send them your way. We're less than a week out. Here's hoping that you guys are all looking forward to this event as much as I am!

David Ata defeated Ray Robillard in the finals, a Landstill mirror. Paul Mastriano was defeated in the semifinals, by David. Paul was also running Landstill. The event seemed like it was half Landstill, half Shop Combo/Aggro. I don't think there was a single Dredge deck there. I'll have the full report up tonight. If I'm lucky, I'll have the Vintage Rankings updated as well.

Well, that's what happens when you win THREE STRAIGHT BLUE BELLS. It's quite a testament to the run you've had this summer with this deck, taking it from this quirky pet deck that no one took seriously into a genuine powerhouse. Impressive.

My apologies, but it looks like the full report is going to have to wait until Monday night. Points standings for the Blue Bell, N.Y.S.E. and Player's Guild events should be updated (very) early this week as well.

Aj used to just thrash people with this deck all the time. I still don't understand why people are so surprised that it's a major player.
