One card that I think might have been overlooked is Victim of Night:
Victim of Night BB
Instant
Destroy target non-Vampire, non-Werewolf, non-Zombie creature.

I've seen Doom Blade make the cut in the 75 a few times, this card hits Dark Confidant. The only remotely relevant zombies/vampires in Vintage are black anyway. Does the  {B} {B} instead of  {1} {B} negate the ability to kill black creatures? Just like Doom Blade it will never be a staple, but something to consider.

It not only has to compete with Doom Blade, it has to compete with Edicts.  Outside of Dark Times, I'd probably pass on it.

Get's trumped by

Seriously though, mana costs matter:

Dismember has crowded out all the other black removal in standard.  It would not be the right play to run cards that cost over 100% more, with infinitely harder mana costs.

I guess it might take the place of:

Even in Dark Times, I'd rather have Doom Blade. Getting double black isn't always an option when you need to kill something. I've tried Geth's Verdict or whatever and cut it for that reason. Edict was easier to cast.

I didn't overlook it! It's in my set review Wink

As mentioned, it not only has to compete with Doom Blade, Go For the Throat, etc, but it also has to compete with Dismember, which has become quite popular!

As someone who runs doom blade, I wouldn't run this. I partly want doom blades to kill lodestone golem, and I can't rely on having more than UB for my plan against them
