And that’s a wrap!  The 2011 N.Y.S.E. season has come to a close.  After having an unbelievable year, it’s a surprise to none that Paul Mastriano is your 2011 N.Y.S.E. Player of the Year.  Congratulations Paul!  Still, while Paul’s victory in the Player of the Year Race was cemented early on in the day, he could not stop Brian Ritter from beating him in the finals…

The Complete Metagame Breakdown:

Drains:

Snapcaster Control: 2
Gro: 1
East Coast Wins: 2
Empty/Gush: 1
Slaver: 1
Golden Gun Oath: 1
Show and Tell Oath: 1
Terastodon Oath: 1
5C Dragon Combo: 1

Workshops:

Kuldotha Combo: 1
Nouveau Espresso: 3

Bazaars:

Dredge: 2

Null Rods:

Noble Fish: 1
Seasons Beatings: 1

We had a smaller than expected turnout, but the field was heavy with blue decks.  I had thought that we’d see more Fish style decks at this event, because I expected to see Landstill.  That no Landstill showed up, at all, was the most surprising bit of information from this event.

Top Eight Pairings and Results:

Paul Mastriano vs. Mark Hornung – Mastriano wins
Will Magrann vs. Jake Gans – Magrann wins
Brian Ritter vs. Josh Potucek – Ritter wins
Shawn Anthony vs. Allen Fulmer – Anthony wins

Top Four Pairings and Results:

Paul Mastriano vs. Will Magrann – Mastriano wins
Brian Ritter vs. Shawn Anthony – Ritter wins

Finals:

Brian Ritter vs. Paul Mastriano – Ritter wins

Congratulations to Brian Ritter, Paul Mastriano and all my top eight competitors!

In Conclusion:

There are going to be a lot of changes to the N.Y.S.E. event series in 2012 and I’m looking forward to announcing those changes in the near future.  In the meantime, I’d like to offer my thanks to Gil, Frank, Steve and all the Brothers Grim staff, to the best judge in New York: Brian Paskoff, to dealer extraordinaire Nick Coss, but most of all to everyone who supported me in 2011.  Thank you.

An announcement for January’s event will come sometime in the near future.  Until then…

Sweet deck, Paul!

Seconded! I have been working on nearly the exact same deck ever since you and John Jones dreamcrushed me at the FoW tourney, Paul. Nice to see that it works.

Congratulations Paul!

It seems Dredge really has become your bane. And now you packed even more hate then during the World Championships... Smile What went wrong?

This was a good time, thanks to Nick for once again running a great event.  Congratulations to Brian Ritter for winning, although calling his deck "Titan Dredge" is clearly wrong - it's definitely "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" as he had really cool Always Sunny in Philadelphia themed proxies in there - like the Ancestral Recall had Danny Devito's face on the guy.

I own that mistake.  There was no name listed for the deck and I quickly filled one in.

Thanks for the kind words, Paul.

This event was a blast like usual. Congrats to Ritter on winning and the rest of the top 8. The rest of you should make more of an effort to get to these, they're insanely fun.
