Well, the cat’s out of the bag! Starting with the weekend of January 14th-15th, N.Y.S.E. events are going to folded into the Northeast Vintage Series! To quote Nick Coss: Coming into 2012 I've seen tournament attendance in the NY/PA/NJ trend downward a little bit. The events that were consistently getting 40, 50, and even 60 players are now getting 20 and 30 players. How do I convince players to come and play at my events you say? This is how. Working with Nick Detwiler, and Brothers Grim, we have put together what is sure to be an amazing tournament series for everyone who enjoys playing Vintage. 2012 Northeast Vintage Series There will be approximately 20 NEV Events held in 2012, all leading up to the NEV Championship in December of 2012! The Championship is free to enter, and here are the prizes! NEV Series Championship1st Place: Black Lotus + Trophy! 2nd Place: Ancestral Recall 3rd Place: Time Walk 4th Place: Mox Sapphire 5th Place: Mox Jet 6th Place: Mox Emerald 7th Place: Mox Ruby 8th Place: Mox Pearl 9th – 16th Place: $100 in credit! 2012 NEV Series Player’s Club LevelsLevel 1 (6 pts): Play with free proxies Level 2 (12 pts): $5 in Store credit at each NEV Series Event Level 3 (24 pts): Round 1 Bye at each NEV Series Event Level 4 (36 pts): Invite to the 2012 NEV Championship Level 5 (48 pts): Round 1 Bye at the 2012 NEV Championship Level 6 (60 pts): Round 1 & 2 Bye at the 2012 NEV Championship Level 7 (72 pts): Free Entry into every remaining NEV Event in 2012! How do you earn these points you ask? 2012 N.E.V. Vintage Events1st Place: 12 points 2nd Place: 6 points 3rd – 4th: 4 points 5th – 8th: 3 points 9th – 16th: 2 points 17th and beyond: 1 point Here’s all the information for N.Y.S.E. XX, the first New York NEV event of 2012: When:Saturday, January 15th, 2012 Registration will begin at 12:00 PM First round will begin promptly at 1:00 PM What: $30, 10 proxy non-sanctioned Vintage tournament. Up to five additional proxies can be bought for $1 each. Deck registration sheets will be in use. First place prize of an Unlimited Mox Sapphire is guaranteed. The prize structure will be as follows: 1st: Unlimited Mox Sapphire 2nd: 2x Italian Mana Drain 3rd/4th: 1x Revised Tropical Island 5th/8th: 1x Wasteland 9th: Mystery Prize, to be autographed by the top 8 Second place through eighth place prizes are guaranteed at 40 entrants. As always, prizes will be scaled up with attendance. Side Events: Eight man, single elimination, side events will be available throughout the day. Signups for the first event will begin after round four of the main event. Entry fee is $12, with a blue dual land (probably a Tropical Island) being given to first! Where:Brothers Grim Games & Collectibles 1244 Middle Country Road Selden, N.Y. 11784 (631) 698-2805 brothersgrimgames@gmail.comStore website: http://brgrim.com/index.htmBut New York events are going to be more than just Vintage tournaments. Here’s the full schedule for the weekend: Saturday 1/14:10am registration, 11am start, $25 entry Legacy tournament. This event will be sanctioned, so no proxies are allowed. I am going to cross post this to MTGTheSource as soon as I have the details finally worked out, which will hopefully be some time later today. 12pm registration, 1pm start, $30 Vintage tournament. See above for all details. 4pm registration, 5pm start, $10 Standard tournament. To reiterate, this event will also be sanctioned, so no proxies are allowed. This will be cross posted on MTGSalvation. The winner of this tournament will earn a round one bye to the main flight Standard event, which will take place on Sunday, 1/15. Sunday 1/15:10am registration, 11am start, $25 Standard tournament. First place prize will be a foil playset of one of the chase rares from Standard, with 2nd-8th being similarly sweet prizes. 12pm registration, 1pm start, Commander tournament. I’m still working out the details on what sufficient prize support for this would be and what should be charged for entry fee. This event will also be cross posted on MTGSalvation (as well as any other forums that you guys think would be interested to see this.) Throughout the day on Sunday we’ll have $12 side events in Commander, Legacy, Vintage and Standard for blue dual lands. I’m going to work on doing a special end of year tournament for the Legacy players, probably for a Black Lotus, with it being free and invite only. More information on that will come later. I’m also going to double check local area hotels and work on getting a discount rate for anyone who’s interested in staying the night so as to play in both days. So that’s it! That’s all I’ve got, and I hope that you guys are all looking forward to this as much as I am. See you all in 2012…

Trust me, if you're a NYC metro area Vintage player, you're going to want to have off this weekend. You're probably going to want to come to New York...
This is enough to convince me. Unless I'm busy, count me in.

The info for this weekend has also been posted on Magic Traders, hopefully we can bring out some more people. I've also started the Facebook campaign, so this will be promoted huge by me.

I guess that you have already think about this, but doing Legacy and Vintage in the same day is a good idea? Since both are Eternal formats some Vintage players would play Legacy, and the other way around, than people from standard playing any of those formats. At least in Spain is this way... Anyway I think taht is a good idea and a great iniciative, but as for the invitational I will have put so that if some one goes to all the events is going to the invitational too, if it doesn't perform well it can be out, but is another way to thank people from going to all the events, just a thought

Details for the Legacy portion of the event are set: When: Sunday, January 15th, 2012 Registration begins at 10am Round one begins promptly at 11am What: $25 sanctioned Legacy tournament. Deck registration sheets will be in use. First place prize of four Tropical Islands and second place prize of two Volcanic Islands are guaranteed. The prize structure will be as follows: 1st: 4x Tropical Island (guaranteed) 2nd: 2x Volcanic Island (guaranteed) 3rd/4th: 1x Volcanic Island (guaranteed at 40 players) 5th-8th: 1x Wasteland (guaranteed at 40 players) Prize structure will be scaled up with attendance. I have a bunch of other sweet cards that could easily be included in the prize pool should attendance exceed expectations. Where: Brothers Grim Games & Collectibles 1244 Middle Country Road Selden, N.Y. 11784 (631) 698-2805 brothersgrimgames@gmail.comStore website: http://brgrim.com/index.htmThere's also another bit of information that I'm currently working on: Artist Appearance: While this is all really cool, it may not be enough to justify making a trip out to Long Island for a bunch of guys. Which is why this isn’t just it. For starters, I’m currently in talks with Magic artist Jeff Menges to make an appearance at the event. Jeff has previously been to one of my events and while he was there he did card alterations, custom playmates, sold artist proofs and offered up great stories of what it was like working for Wizards of the Coast in the beginning. For a full list of the cards that Jeff has done, follow this link: http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Se...20Menges%22%5DJeff’s standouts include Swords to Plowshares, Bazaar of Baghdad, Moat, Kjeldoran Outpost, Black Knight and more.

Well, first the good news. I confirmed with Jeff Menges this morning, Jeff is going to be at the event on 1/14 signing cards, doing alters, playmats and telling awesome stories from way back in the day.
The other news is that I've decided to wait on the Invitational for Legacy. Legacy is a new format for me and before I commit to an expensive end of year tournament I'd like to know that I have the player support to run it.

I would be interested in doing this - Legacy is a format I've been hoping to play more of. However, is this going to be run alongside Vintage or completely separate? I was disappointed to see that the Vintage and Legacy events are going to be run concurrently, as I have no interest in Standard.

I'm not sure how I feel about it, but I wanted to have the Legacy pilots there while Vintage was being played, if only to try and grow the format with their involvement. We'll see, I suppose I still have a couple of days left to change my mind on the dates for the Legacy portion (Saturday vs. Sunday.)

So I'm trying to gauge just how many players I'm going to end up with for the Legacy end of the event... How many of the Vintage players are considering staying for both days? The response on TheSource has been lackluster, but I'm not married to Legacy being the format for the second day - if people want Modern (or something else) I'm open to that too. Thoughts?

The current announcement has Legacy on Saturday, but you say here it's on Sunday. Which is it? Also, I would only attend the Legacy event.

Yukon, if you need help getting to the event from the NYC area (once you get there), lmk.
As for everyone else; if you're looking for a ride to the tournaments on either Saturday or Sunday, please reach out to me now. I am going to be leaving very early (I will need to be at Grim by 10am both days), but if I can help you with a ride, I will. As things stand I have two spots in my car open for Saturday, with another spot open for Sunday.
Shoot me a PM if you're looking.

I have, and I want to do it, but I couldn't figure out the technical stuff necessary in order to do it all. If anybody has the camera/wherewithal to do this, let me know. I'll find a way to make it worth your while.
