Hi guys I would like to play in my first Vintage tournament can I play in this?  I don't understand the team deal though.  I don't mind losing want to learn this format more than anything. Picked up a beautiful power 8 set so I'm ready to start learning!!

Don't worry about the "team" thing, it is just bragging rights, it has no real meaning.  This would be a perfectly fine event to learn about Vintage, attendance should be good, so you can get an idea of the current meta-game and all that.

Ok awesome thanks for the info. You think I should play in the Grudge match main tournament or side tournaments?  I know most of the card pool so I hopefully shouldn't slow any of the games down. I will do my best to review all of the most played decks cardpools
: Artifact bases, Blue control combo, Fish, and Dredge.

Hopefully make a few new friends and have some fun!!

The best thing that you can do between now and the event is to get some games in on Cockatrice.  A lot of the guys on TMD play on Cockatrice weekly.  You'd be able to get some real testing in before the event, hopefully making you a little more comfortable in what you're playing before the day.

Either way, good luck.  Introduce yourself to me when you're at the event next week.

That is correct; Avacyn Restored is legal for this event.

Playing the role of Nick Coss tomorrow will be Mickey Noblis and myself. It's a big job but I think we're up to the task.

Updates?

The top 8 split.

Pretty sure there was a Dredge, an interesting RUG tempo (Delver), a Stax (Forgemaster), an Oath (I think), a Red Stax (I think), and TurboTezz.  The last two I don't know, sorry.  40-something people total, IIRC.

A few quick, fun, notes before the tournament report (which will be up later today)

1.  Not only did New England not finish in the basement, Team New England WON THEIR FIRST GRUDGE MATCH.  Big congratulations to Commandant, Fail to Find and Nefarias for taking the event down!

2.  Raf Forino (24 points) nearly had as many points as Team Pennsylvania (26 points) - and that's WITH Rob Edwards top 8 performance!

3.  Team New England won this event by the skin of its teeth, as they finished at 41 points to Team New York's 39 points!  If I had picked Vinnie Forino, or if Jake Gans had stayed in (and won) one more round, New York squeaks by with a one point win. Talk about a close one...

I also want to say thanks to Paul Mastriano and Vinnie Forino, who played one of the craziest rubber games I've ever seen.  The level of play from both of you was absolutely incredible, and drives me to be a better player.  Amazing...

Someone's playing rituals and it isn't me? Oh hell no. Last time i'm missing one of these.

Congratz to new england! PA, what the hell guys. Delaware was counting on you to rep the tristate.

RUG delver in a top 8 again? We got one in on a fluke and modified legacy list - I am incredibly excited to see this one, especially if it's playing real vintage cards.
