Cavern of Souls

Land    Rare
As ~ enters the battlefield, choose a creature type.
{T}: Add 1 to your mana pool.
{T}: Add one mana of any color to your mana pool. Spend this mana only to cast creature spells of the chosen creature type. If this mana is spent on a spell, that spell can't be countered by spells or abilities.

Seems we have a new great card for beats and tribal decks! Fix color mana for some decks, and improves greatly control matchup, plus have great synergie with chalice of the void. Other formats will abuse this card so its price will increase a lot, but I'm pretty sure it would be played in vintage.

This is clearly a powerful card and I can't wait to play with it! With its ability to blank Force of Will and Mental Misstep, this definitely gives Fish-style decks something new to play with. My first thought of a creature type to name was 'Wizards' but I'm sure there are plenty other of great options for us to experiment with - and as it's not legendary you can drop two and name different tribes. Convinced this will be a game changer for eternal formats.

On a side note, could this card foreshadow a reprint of Force of Will in a Standard playable set?!

EDIT: Also in retrospect, I'm quite surprised Wizards banned Misstep in Legacy if they knew this thing was in the pipeline. Surely it would be fair now with this card sure to pop up in zillions of decks?

Should be good in MUD/Stax with Welder, Lodestone Golem and Duplicant.

This will see play in Elves and Goblins for sure.

It's really an awesome card, just what something like a wizard deck needs as someone mentioned.

This cards ability to cast things through chalice I think is its greatest feature.

Uncounterable Goblin Lackey?
Nice!

Remember that you can just play 4x in a deck naming different types. Tech versus Chalice, Mana drain, FoW.

Just like any nonbasic, wasteland can hurt it. So it looks good versus landstill, but landstill runs wastelands too.

I once explored a build with 9 strips and noble, putting so much pressure with wastelands, that they didn't want to wasteland my lands. If they did, then they have turned my nonbasic into yet another wasteland. That deck ran Tarnished citadel and this card seems like it would be an interesting addition or replacement.

You can name 'Human' with this right?

Dark Confidant, Grand Abolisher, Canonist, True Believer, Thalia, Gideon Lawkeeper

'Cleric' hits a lot of those same card too: Dark Grand Abolisher, Canonist, True Believer AND Leonin Relic warder, Leonin Arbiter...

Wizards seems interesting too..

Interesting design characteristic too (although I'm no expert), it does surprise me that this is
  • not a mythic
  • not even legendary

Almost looks like Wizards just really dislikes it when players win by other means than the combat phase...

Uncounterable Goblin Lackey?
Uncounterable Earwig Squad.

With the number of blockers floating around, I'm not sure that Goblins are suddenly viable.  That said, I'm sorely tempted to find out.

Goblins has a recent top 8 I think?

Anyway, this land is pretty epic in Eternal.  Really nice design.

Clique, bob, trinket mage, magus of the moon, snapcaster, and how many other super powerful wizards are there?  This could also potentially make elves playable.  Or how bout even golem, thats lodestone, precursor, and karn.  Not to mention this things mana fixing ability... very powerful card in any deck running at least 8 copies of a particular creature type.

There's an upside and a downside to this, though.  If Cavern of Souls becomes a pillar or even pillar-like, Engineered Plague/Pyroclasm/etc are waiting.

Also, Golem is a creature type.

And for all you goblin lovers, don't forget the good old Merfolk.  Uncounterable islandwalkers are good I hear.

Shop decks have far more crucial lands to drop than this.

I feel like Billy Mays is selling this card to me.

What can I do for you to build WiFi today? How about a Rainbow land to help you cast those Wizards in hand? It's like your own personal City of Brass with no damage! Three colors? No Problem! No more worrying about how you're going to cast Snapcaster, Dark Confidant and Meddling Mage in the same deck! What's that? Still not good enough? For a limited time only we'll make those Wizards UNCOUNTERABLE! What a value! It's like having your own Boseiju except it doesn't come into play tapped or cost two life to use AND makes colored mana! WOW! Now you may be saying "But what about my non-wizard spells?" We've still got you covered! It will still make you colorless mana that you can use on ANY spell you want. Now you might be asking me "What's the catch? Is this thing legendary?" Well act now and it's not even Legendary! Run 4 with no fear of dead cards in hand or legend rule shenanagins! Coming soon to a booster pack near you!

Mike: A++++ Would read post again.

This card is much more interesting for Legacy than Vintage. If it only made your spells uncounterable, it would be less exciting. But the fact that it color-fixes makes it much, much more interesting. I am not convinced that it will see play for sure, but it is at least powerful enough to try.

Even just a few years ago the reaction to this would have been mediocre.

But creatures are awesome now.

So yeah, wow.  This is very very good, for a land.

Vintage is a lovely format, it's too bad so few people can play because the supply of power is so small.

Chess really changed when they decided to stop making Queens and Bishops.  I'm just glad I got my copies before the prices went crazy.

Bomberman just keeps getting these subtle buffs, sooner or later it's gonna take off like Landstill did a few months ago. Uncounterable Mindcensor in a deck that already makes the best use of Cage is going to be super annoying...not to mention the obvious uncounterable Salvagers implications.

the only issue is that salvagers and mindcensor do not share a creature type, which means you are almost telling your opponent which one you are going to cast first.  however trinket mage, snapcaster, and bob would all share a creature type with both of them.

Uncounterable Mindcensor is just so beastly, I would view using the land for an uncounterable Auriok more as an "oops I win" or desperation type move.

Well that's the beauty part of the land, you choose when you cast it, so, have Salvagers you want to resolve soon, name human, have a Mindsencor in hand, name wizards, in both cases you hit Trinket and Snapcaster, I'd definitively play 2 of those.

Has anyone seen the price of Mutavault lately? This is going to be difficult to acquire (Legacy Merfolk).
