Nick,

Will Card Titan have an ample supply of Commander product?  I went to the website, and don't see anything specific about it that might answer my question.

Since the cards become available and legal this weekend, it would really suck if players couldn't access the new cards.

We will be bringing about 40 sets of all 5 decks to the event, with tentative prices as follows:

Eternal Bargain: $49.99
Nature of the Beast: $39.99
Power Hungry: $39.99
Mind Seize: $59.99
Evasive Maneuvers: $39.99
All Five Copies (limit once per customer): $149.95 (MSRP!)

Remember, this only represents Card Titan's inventory of the product.  With over a half dozen other dealers at the event, all of which are aware of the hype around cards such as True-Name Nemesis, Unexpectedly Absent and Toxic Deluge, there should be ample supply at the event for all attendees.

I'm glad to hear that there will be some product, but if there are 300 Legacy players, and even 25 of them need 3 True-Name Nemesis, that is not enough to go around.

There will be a deluge of demand on Toxic Deluge as well.

Is your demand issue really their problem?

It's not "my" demand issue.

The sets are released Friday, and Card Titan is only getting 40 of each deck, so that's only 40 of each single.  Even if you double that with additional sources, if there are 400 Legacy players and 200 Vintage players, that could fall well short of demand/need, leaving people with suboptimal decks.

To illustrate the fact that it's not "my issue," the reason I even raised it in the first place is that someone from Wizards R&D contacted me last night to ask if this might be an issue.  That's why I even posted my question.

I have never played in a big event where the cards got released 24 hours before I was expected to need them for a tournament and  I can't imagine that the situation is going to be an overwhelmingly positive one :/  With so many players vying for so few cards I imagine that at least some people will have to go without cards that might want to play because of availability.  I can't imagine that 40 copies of True Name Nemesis is event remotely close to enough to sustain 400+ players.

It benefits nobody to have them be available / legal 8 hours before an event. Especially when factoring in 80% are traveling in and most airport newsstands don't sell Commander decks. Nobody can be upset if they are deemed not legal by some late hour WotC decree. If you've truly been pounding away testing some TNN aggro deck then you were banking on hosing people anyway, throw a Geist/Clique/C-E-S in it's place. No Toxic Deluge puts a damper on my Death's Shadow beatdown plan but I'll still sleep at night.

Yeah, just to be clear, I'm not saying it WILL be a problem, simply that it COULD be.  The facts you just mentioned (large out of town arrival with proximate release and limited local supply) makes this a potential issue.  It's not the TO's fault, but the situation is obviously not ideal.

This is key.  We'd order 500 cases of Commander 2013 if we could.

Not that I expected to get it, but I ordered 3,000 cases of the 2013 Commander Decks.  Very Happy

I have been working on this and we should have upwards of 80 of each deck available for purchase.
Also, other vendors have been permitted (and encouraged) to bring Commander Decks with them to help meet local demand.

The bottom line is if these cards are very good, then there won't be enough of them available, and WotC should have thought the release/legality/event date convergence through more.  It's a mistake they need to learn from.

The same thing happened a few years ago with the release of Mental Misstep coinciding with the biggest privately run Eternal tournaments (Bazaar of Moxen) the same weekend. There were nowhere near enough Missteps available that weekend to meet the demand. Wizards likely won't learn from it, or care.

Wizards folks told me that they will try to avoid this in the future.  Apparently, the release date for Commander was scheduled far in advance of the tournament.

If WOTC does that, what about all those dealers? They won't be able to price gouge us. We might actually get them at MSRP!

I think we have gotten off track.  Clearly people are just trying to use any excuse to explain why they couldn't stop the escaped golf cart that is Team Serious.

If you look closely.... You'll notice the Team Serious logo to the left of the EZ-Go logo.

This was Yangtime's first go at Vintage golf cart manipulation.

For the record wasn't even remotely implying that it was the TOs fault -- the policy itself, of releasing new cards the day before a big event is insanity on Wizards part.  I'm not at all surprised that Nick is going out of his way to find proactive solutions to Wizards screw ups in order to accommodate his players, as he is one of the best in the biz.  My thought is that players should probably be looking to find ways to pick up the cards before they make it down to the event on Saturday/Sunday, as completely unreasonable and logistically difficult as that may prove to be.  Or, if people are picking theirs up before hand to bring extras to lone out.  We're the friggin Vintage community I'm sure we'll figure it out!

TRAVEL ADVISORY

Our eyes in the sky...

... have informed us that the BEN FRANKLIN BRIDGE is CLOSED SUNDAY, from 7:45 AM to 9:30 AM, to host a charity 10K.  Although I'm sure you could plow a golf cart through the participants, I would advise you use the BETSY ROSS or WALT WHITMAN bridge instead.  Either way, please give yourself plenty of time if you need to pass through South Jersey into Philadelphia.

Really people!?! How about we stop with all the complaining about the new Commander cards and concentrate on how this weekend will be one of the best if not THE best weekend of Vintage this year, if not longer! If the new cards are that important to you, you should have known and prepared for this well in advance, via preorders, scheduling to hit up your or Philly's LGSs, arranging a pickup with any of the 7 vendors who will be on site, or even asking your friends. Even then, it sounds like we will have THE largest inventory of Commander 2013 available in the world to us. Availability with newly released product, even a limited release product, is not a new problem. Next, if you're not happy actually having to spend the money, at market value, well then that's just the nature of this CCG beast, since the beginning. This game is expensive. You can't always beat the system and everyone can't afford the best new cards. Old news.

So get over it and lets be more positive. Consider the increased prize support, the more experienced Vintage TO and judging staff, the free limited playmat, a great selection of 7 artists, the glut of options for (side) events, the Reading Terminal Market, and even more that I'm sure I'm missing. Have fun, be happy and respect each other. And don't forget to eat your damn vegetables!

Also, if you haven't done so yet, I recommend checking out the Vintage Bingo post! That looks fun!

Lastly, thanks for the heads up Mikey! FYI, if your GPS says I-295, then you are someone that needs to remember that.
