http://legitmtg.com/competitive/the-vintage-advantage-vintage-from-the-bottom-up/

This is the first in a series of articles I put together for LegitMTG on getting new players introduced to Vintage. Upcoming articles will look at the structure of the format, important cards, metagaming, and a GenCon post view, all leading up to Vintage Champs. Here I just lay out some of the important resources that exist for Vintage players, like where to find decklists and tournaments and opponents.

Sweet article Nat! I've found when attending large events, many people have never seen sanctioned vintage being played or even know where to look for vintage material. Hopefully this points them in the right direction. I can see your article series being a great gateway/introduction for players interested in the format and I like how you pointed out the online and RL Vintage resources.

Excellent article, I look forward to the rest.  Glad to see people still get some use out of the encyclopedia, I need to look into ways to turn it into a community project at some point.

Another good tournament results site is http://www.thecouncil.es/tcdecks/  It might also be one people from other formats are already familiar with since it does type 2, modern and legacy as well.

One thing I know I like about TC Decks is that it organizes decks by archetype.  This could be especially nice for a newer player who wants to get a feel for what's out there or, once they've picked an archetype to try, quickly compare different peoples' lists.

Yes they do like the modern vintage archetypes control slaver, and threshhold.

Sure, their naming choices can be outdated or subpar, but I personally appreciate the attempt at organization.

Thanks for the comments and compliments, everyone. I'm writing this with newer players in mind, but I hope this will be useful for longer players as well, if only as a way to give potential new players a place to go for introductory information. And as I get further into it, I'll get away from the introductory content.

Great article. It was really inspirational. I find myself identifying with this article; I've recently moved to a part of the country that lacks a Vintage community, so I'll try my hand at introducing players to the format to see if I can build one from the bottom up.  Wink
