Hi All,
Just wondering if there were certain ridiculous plays/cards/things you'd like to see happen in a serious Vintage game?
Here are a few I'd like mainly because they'd be funny but awesome at the same time. I'd like to see a Stax player drop Feroz's Ban on an aggro opponent., I'd also like to see a waste/strip activation countered by Teferi's Response, and lastly I'd like to see someone play a deck with both Mana Drain and Scattering Stroke. Sometimes on Cockatrice I'll throw Feroz's Ban into a Metalworker or Stax type deck for fun but I've never been able to cast it. Teferi's Response is actually pretty powerful and might be worthy of MD in a meta flooded with land distruction.
I'd also like to see someone cast Seedtime and I run1-2 in SB quite frequently if playing green but I've never had it come up.

Someone Spell Pierced my Daze at a Legacy side event at GP Richmond, so that was pretty cool.

Opponent has oath into Griselbrand with 4 cards left in the deck, Memory's journey is exiled pitched to fow or he forgets to use it don't remember which, on my turn cast memory jar for the win milling opponent.

Awesome, did you ask him why he did it ? unless he had some way of getting value out of it like Young Pyromancer that's pretty much one the most ridiculous thing you could ever do in magic.

No, there was no clever play involved. He just seemed to want to Spell Pierce the first thing he could. I obliged.

I have also red elemental blasted a daze not thinking. It happens. My favorite play i seen at a vintage tournament was turn one drop seven kobolds and gaes cradle then turn two drew overrun for the win. One of the funniest things i ever did was drop a crypt rats with a spirit link on it and gain about two hundred life against an elf deck. Magic used to be so different lol.

I've joked before with a good friend of mine about how I've always wanted to Donate a Sorrow's Path to my opponent and then tap it ten times with a Rishadan Port. Very Happy

I've been waiting 20 years for Floral Spuzzem to make a decision:

I would gladly comp an entrance fee to a tournament to watch you try and set that up all day.

He must of been in a Daze... Mr. Green

It would be pretty cool to have someone cast ancestral recall when they have Ivory mask/True believer/Solitary confinement in play and tell them: you're not a legal target, I draw three?

I hardcast a Gush on Saturday because Magus of the Moon was raining on my parade.

Also, I scooped a game where I untapped with Future Sight because Grafdigger's Cage was in play.  That hurt.

Vintage is pretty sweet.  Very Happy

Vintage is a lovely format, it's too bad so few people can play because the supply of power is so small.

Chess really changed when they decided to stop making Queens and Bishops.  I'm just glad I got my copies before the prices went crazy.

Rumor has it, you once allowed an opponent to resolve Vampiric Tutor at two life.

A friend of mine cast Demonic Tutor to get Vampiric Tutor to get the card he wanted on top as a Hypnotic Spectre would have made him discard it.

I've seen times and times again people Tinker for crappy cards because they forgot they had Colossus in hand.

Sometimes plays like that are needed. I believe Brian Demars wrote an article entertaining the subject a few years ago. Thing is, when you're sitting across from your opponent and they have some sort of weird sequencing going on... They might be hatching their master plan instead of just bonking left and right... You never know.

One of my favorite plays used to be Merchant Scrolling for Misdirection then Brainstorming it away if my opponent was trying to Scroll/find Ancestral Recall.

Vintage is so cool

For a while I was testing main deck Stifle, and I did nail a few Wastelands with it at the time.

I cast Merchant Scroll for Misdirection. My opponent later drew Ancestral Recall and targetted me so I'd have to Misdirect it to him...needless to say I chose to not cast Misdirection. Profit.

This happened. My opponent had completely locked me out with his Workshop deck. I believe it was the full Trinisphere / Crucible lock. But, he was at four life. Over the course of several turns after locking me out, he tapped Ancient Tomb Ancient going to two. Then, he cast Vampiric Tutor at two life. I have no idea why. Then I won.

Also, my all-time favorite opponent misplay was at I believe Gencon one year. My opponent was playing Suicide Black and had me dead on board. I passed, defeated, and all my opponent had to do was untap and turn his creatures sideways to secure the win. Instead, hen cast Demonic Consultation on my end step. He named Yawgmoth's Will and exiled his entire library, because he had boarded out Yawgmoth's Will. There are about half a dozen different horrible misplays going on in that sequence, and I'll leave finding them as an exercise to the reader.

Teferi's Response used to be a one-of blowout in certain mirrors. I can't remember if that was old school U/R Fish or Landstill where I saw that. Some people tried Seedtime as tech in GAT lists so they could Time Walk after their Dryad was targetted by Submerge.

It would be pretty cool to have someone cast ancestral recall when they have Ivory mask/True believer/Solitary confinement in play and tell them: you're not a legal target, I draw three?

Someone has (or had) a signature here on TMD about exactly that. A player cast Ancestral with their True Believer out and then quits Magic.

To echo what others have said, I've seen two different people Red Elemental Blast a Daze. I've played Time Vault plus Key and was so astounded to see both resolve because I was certain my opponent had a counter that I forgot to take all the turns. I've played Ring of Renewal in my sideboard just to try and get it on a playmat. Platinum Angel meets Emerald Charm and Dredge steals a win is another old school favorite.

I've seen something Tezz for Vault, and the next turn Tezz for Voltaic Key, and then not having enough mana to cast and activate it, he lost the next turn and threw a fit when his opponent reminded him that Planeswalker have different abilities, and that ALL of them are important.

Also, my opponent was a regular Food Chains Goblin player, proceeds to cast Food Chain and sacrifice a Warchief to cast some sorcery. I ask him to read Food Chain again and ask him how he would instead like to spend his 4 mana.

This is a funny one that I am guilty of:

I was playing against Brianpk on Cockatrice. He was playing Humanstorm, and I was playing Doomsday. I played an Ancestral Recall, and he flashed in a Notion Thief. I Force of Willed the Thief, but then I was reminded that he had played it off a Cavern  Sad.  I was then forced to counter my own ancestral with a Misstep.  Needless to say I lost that game, but on the plus side, I believe that it was also the last time I tried to counter a Creature off Cavern.

Another one happened this last weekend at a tournament i went to. I am withholding the guilty players' names to avoid embarrassment. To my right, there was an Oath Mirror going on. Player A end of turn Vampiric Tutored with Misdirection, FoW, and Misstep as the only relevant cards in hand. Once Vamp resolved, Player B played Memory's Journey on Player A, targeting no cards to just shuffle the tutored card away. Player A Misdirected the Journey to Player B, pitching FoW. After having a laugh about how he could have made player A lose 1 life by targeting one card in A's Graveyard, Player B flashbacked Memory's Journey. Player A literally facepalmed himself as everyone burst out in laughter. Vintage is awesome!

I actually cast Pyroblast targeting a Daze, not REB.

I also have cast a lethal Yawgmoth's Will, only to have my opponent Twincast my Yawgmoth's Will and cast Force of Will out of his graveyard to counter mine.

Not as epic, but an Oath player once cast Show and Tell to put Emrakul into play against me when I was on Elves.  I put Skullclamp into play, dodging the misstep in his hand.  I combo'd out the next turn, casting Emrakul twice from my hand (thanks, old legend rule!)

A couple of weeks ago I go turn one mox, dual land, oath, but no orchard.  It resolves.  Opponent says, "I need to make sure I don't cast something into Swan Song".  I obviously don't have mana for it anyway.  He goes his turn one: land, mox, dark confidant.  Resolves and a big thank you.  I get Griselbrand and win.

In that case, I've seen three different people cast Red Elemental Blast or Pyroblast into a Daze unless you've done it twice with the two different red counters.

EDIT: I remember the tournament and date the first time I saw this happen, but I'm having a hard time placing when you did this. Was this before or after the Tinker incident?

I would imagine that it involves Platinum Angel swinging, losing flying to the Charm, and being blocked by a horde of the undead.

In a recent tournament I was playing RUG delver. I had enough creatures to attack for the win on my turn. My opponent had blightsteel in play. He attacked and I blocked with a 2/1 so I could be at 9 counters and then win on my turn...
