Hey everyone! Thanks for coming out to Baltimore for Games and Stuff's Vintage Event! I know we had some folks from Pennsylvania and New York make it to the event, so many thanks for taking the time to hang out with us. We had 27 players for this event and it was ran with 5 rounds and a cut to Top 8 which led to Ryan Glackin taking home the Time Walk.

Here are the Top 8 Decklists for this event, if there are any errors please let me know! Also if you have any input, critique, criticism or encouragement about the event or our store please let us know!

+1000. You win the Internet today, sir!

I plan to write a report within the next couple of days. A quick preview: I cannot confirm or deny the veracity of GI's statement re: Paul's deck. Our Top 8 match was that quick and that dirty.

You are my new favorite person on TMD. GI for President!

@Rob - JP never once saw Slaver throughout the entire tournament.

Yea it was pretty much inconclusive, only had it in hand once all day and at that point, I had a shop player locked under his own tangle wire with welder and jace. I'll probably keep it in the next iteration of the deck but I have no opinion atm since whatever else was in that slot would not have done much work. In testing it was better then I expected. One turn in most cases can be a mini mind twist on your opponent depending on what they are holding and can usually mess with there board enough that you get 2 turns to cast freely since there second turn will usually be spent attempting to rebuild in some way. Fun aside, in testing I managed to take a tendrils deck, storm out and then fizzle leaving him with no yard, no Will and a Tendrils in hand.

Yes, not advisable.

For those who lack context, in Round 6 of the Vintage Championship, I was on the verge of winning game 3 when I go to activate Oath for Lab Maniac with a hand of Dark Ritual, Time Walk, and Lotus Petal, and my opponent's hand is empty with Grafdigger's Cage in play (thus, I was going to be able to Ritual and Time Walk off my two lands and Petal, and win the game on my Time Walk turned Draw step).  I emptied my library and realized that I had failed to sideboard in 2 cards (including Lab Man) for my 2 Griselbrands.   Suffice to say I tilted out of that tournament.

Pretty stupid.

That said, I doubt Paul made that mistake Wink  I suspect he was playing a pair of Oath creatures, as the updated OP shows.

I love the first place deck.  Nicely designed!  You can tell alot of thought has been put into the ratios.

I definitely played 2 Griselbrand.

Glackin's deck beat me up pretty hard.  I saw his list and knew he only played 2 wasteland so I felt ok keeping on a hand with 2 dual lands.  He stripped both of my lands and played uncounterable Thalia - dead.  I thought he just had a good hand there, but I lost game 2 in almost the exact same way.

As usual, the person who takes me out of the tournament wins it all.  Congratulations to Ryan and the rest of the top 8.

Side note - After the previous tournament with all of the complaints about how the tournament was run (cutting to top 4 instead of top 8 etc.), i felt that this time everything was handled very professionally.

How do you like Gaea's Blessing as opposed to Memory's Journey Paul?

I've played Oath to the last 3 or 4 top 8's in Bloomsberg with Journey as it becomes a more combo deck then IMO.

Thanks, Paul. I forgot about that little nugget about the player eliminating you winning the tournament! And to think I sweated through the Top 4 and the finals!

I'd have been sweating too, as they seemed close from where I was sitting.

I've played Oath to the last 3 or 4 top 8's in Bloomsberg with Journey as it becomes a more combo deck then IMO.

My two cents as a part-time Oath player is that I prefer Journey. It ensures that you can Oath with impunity and rebuys the critical cards to your library before activating GB, greatly increasing your chances of drawing them as opposed to Blessing. It's also blue and thus pitches to FoW. Add in the fact that it is a counter to cards like Vampiric Tutor, Mystical Tutor, and Imperial Seal and it gets to generate a lot of hidden value. The trade off is that Cage turns it off if you Oath over it and it doesn't cantrip when you cast it.
