DAT ART!

So, Wizards just announced Tempest Remastered aka "Yes, Wasteland is absurdly expensive and should have been an uncommon in Vintage Masters, we're sorry".

Still no word on rarity, guessing Rare, but I look forward to playing a bit of this and finally picking up the Wastelands on MTGO that I had refused to clear my wallet out for in the past.

Thoughts?

Anyone remember the best strategies from Tempest/Stronghold/Exodus limited?

Wastelands with ugly borders? I guess that's better than $100 Wastelands.

Will this spike Mishra's Workshop?

It could, along with the other Workshop favorites like Tangle Wire, Lodestone Golem, etc.  Tangle Wire would be my speculation target, were I to dip my feet in those waters.

There's no new art this time

Anyone ever see that Bottle Gnomes art anywhere else? If it is in fact new, pretty lame that it's an homage to the Mirrodin one and not Tempest.

No one here is asking the real questions.

(EDIT: Except that insightful fellow right above me.)

Are we getting more Bottle Gnomes?  Because that artwork sure looks like a brand-new, alt-art version of Bottle Gnomes.

If I were to pick a spec target from this I would probably go with Stifle.  The number of people that get into Legacy over cheaper Wastelands is probably higher than those who will pick up Shops.  Both versions of the card were "printed" in relatively small quantities and its RUG Delver is one of the most popular decks in the format.

It's almost certainly digital.  I much prefer the original (and non-digital) Tempest art.

The Mirrodin flavor text is clearly the best though.

I really liked to draft this set. I drafted it twice with poor success, but the draft format was fun. Reminded a lot of some older core sets with decent removal, but the creatures are of course very different than nowadays. Wastelands are already climbing back up, if you needed Wastelands hopefully you bought them while they were low.

Yeah, this pretty painful! I thought a) I would open more b) the price would keep falling during the whole time Tempest Remastered was available. This turns out to patently and painfully untrue....

Still, I did pull one from a pack... now to save up for the other three... :/

Format was fun and I'd welcome them running it again in the future.

According to MTGOWikiPrice, the TPR Wasteland is now more expensive that Tempest Wasteland was on TPR release day. The old Wasteland was 47.92 on TPR release day. It's now 73.99. TPR Wasteland is $66.05.

So it seems this did little aside from generate a short-lived hype :/

Well, it's still an improvement over the high of 113.3 right before the announcement of TPR - for comparison, Black Lotus right now is at 113.5.
