Nice post! Go Humans!  Wink

I haven't had as much time to play Vintage lately, unfortunately, but I was able to remedy that yesterday. Took a Humans list to 4-0 again in the daily event last night--beating up mentor with knight is too appealing.

I spent quite a bit of time working out Humans lists with Guli, and I thank him for showing me how to approach the Humans archetype. I'm glad to see another post on it Smile

I ran an extremely similar list to the one you posted :

Land (24):
4 Cavern of Souls
4 Windswept Heath
1 Verdant Catacombs
2 Savannah
2 Scrubland
1 Bayou
1 Forest
4 Wasteland
1 Strip Mine
1 Karakas
1 Gaea’s Cradle
1 The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale
1 Maze of Ith

Artifacts (7):
1 Black Lotus
1 Mox Emerald
1 Mox Pearl
1 Mox Jet
3 Chalice of the Void

Enchantments (3):
3 Stony Silence

Creatures (23):
4 Deathrite Shaman
4 Thalia, Guardian of Thraben
4 Dark Confidant
3 Grand Abolisher   2 Grand Abolisher
3 Qasali Pridemage
2 Eidolon of Rhetoric
3 Knight of the Reliquary
1 Spirit of the Labyrinth

Instants (3):
3 Abrupt Decay

Sideboard (15):
3 Containment Priest
1 Abrupt Decay
2 Swords To Plowshares
4 Mayor of Avabruck 3 Mayor of Avabruck
1 Ghost Quarter
1 Plains
3 Gaddock Teeg
1 Scavenging Ooze

Didn't really affect things too much overall, but the reason I wanted a Spirit main as another threat against draw decks and a quick clock. Scavenging Ooze is there to help control the graveyard when I need to and get big/gain life vs fair decks.

Deck played well, Knight is a great nod to a mentor/pyromancer infested meta. I like it. Could even see playing a 4th in the side.

Edit: I think one of the things I missed most is having a way to interact on the draw. I have used a few missteps here in the past, I don't think they are bad here either. Perhaps add a Tasigur as well since you have more GY to use.

What makes knight so great with mentor? Accessing tabernacle? Maze of ith? Both? Or just having a bigger body? Sorry if the answer if very obvious, but mentor still seems a solid menace against knight (but I agree that does not seem as frightening by any means).

Yes, Tabernacle is real. Denying any mana before hand is just a cherry on top. A lot of the time, you will have a sphere out(thalia), chalice, abolisher, eidolon--SOME sort of disruption to hurt your opponents play. Being one turn behind knight is a massive beating, because then you are eating wastelands, or letting any utility lands resolve. They need to have swords on hand immediately to remove Knight.

You also need to remember, Mentor is what makes the deck go round. If they don't have him (there's only 4!) the deck is not nearly as threatening. In fact, I would still say Pyromancer is more of a threat than Mentor, just because they can start getting a few tokens rolling a turn earlier. 2 v 3 is big vs us. We need Knight as well, only a 3 of, to really beat up the tokens.

I miss orzhov pontiff, maybe I will bring him back as a 1 of as well.

I just wanted to let everyone know that the deck went on a 6-0-1 run through the first 7 rounds of Vintage Worlds.  I was really proud of Noah and this deck's performance.
