I saw this on Reddit and couldn't resist sharing it here.

Great showing by some great members of the Vintage Community.

As soon as "Long Island" came up on the screen I thought: wouldn't it be awesome if the Forinos were in this?

LOL

Great job, everyone!

Good grief, The Comic Book Depot sure hosts one hell of an 8 man tourney.

Awesome look into the different worlds of mtg.

Yeah.  That event was a bunch of ringers.

Evan and Vice did a great job with this.  It was fun to watch.

I thought this was a really good except for one part that annoyed me. I felt the part where Greg Fenton was acting coy about the contents of some of his collection should have been edited out. At first I was annoyed that Greg was holding back something potentially interesting, but later realized Greg likely has his reason and the editor should have removed this section as it built the viewer up without a payoff. Otherwise a cool look at a great game.

I agree wholeheartedly with you Ahab.  This was an unnecessary distraction in what was an otherwise very professional production.  Even if you have good reason for not showing the "secret stuff" (ie - legal recourse), it did not play well at all on film.  I would have cut his segment completely.

Watching this with knowledge was nice but I couldn't help but think that the average viewer would be confused as to the meaning of vintage and why these guys love it. IMO, they should have taken a moment to mention the existence of the formats and explain why what these older guys are playing is a different animal from what this young gun is doing.

Please consider that the point of videos produced by companies like this is to get views, and to get traction online.  Also, please consider that this came out nearly two weeks ago, and we're still talking about this now.  That's a measure of success for them, no?

Was it poor editing, or was it a decision that led to the piece being talked about more than it would have otherwise?

Evan is a bright guy.  He knows what he's doing.  Also, I know what Greg has.  And anyone who thinks it's stolen, NSFW, or whatever, you're nuts, and clearly don't know Greg.

Yup, agree with Prospero - whatever is in the folder is a purloined letter. You don't need to know what it is, particularly as an outsider to the game. All you need to know is that, within this community, there are cards perceived as so important, rare or controversial, that a player might choose to conceal them from the cameras - that's fascinating - and will have created plenty of interested head-scratching from viewers I'm sure. There was plenty of other neatly resolved stories in the film to satisfy viewers - and I think the scene with Greg (who I don't know personally), brought an idea to the fore that actually has motivated many Magic players down the years: Mystery. That's a huge part of what the hobby meant to me back in the day, and I'm pretty sure we've all been driven at times by the need to find out, "What does this card I've heard of from years ago do? What does it even look like? Man, I'd love to see one/own one/play with it."

Full disclosure, my brother in law shot the film, but I don't think detracts from the above argument.

Really glad to see Magic on a mainstream platform. Long may that continue.

I watched this last night.  I found it was really balanced between current standard and vintage formats.  However, it was painful watching the guys play without sleeves.  I'm sure I saw Beta duals and power in their piles...

Jacob Wilson also reminds me of the lead actor in Burn Notice...or is it just me?
