http://puremtgo.com/articles/eternal-spotlight-questions-and-answer 7/10/15  {U} {B}

This week, the featured deck is "The Answer" by Alex Delgado. Mana Drains and Magus of the Moon, along with Chalice of the Void, just to make sure everyone has a fun match  Sad !

The conclusion of last week's mulligan question is featured (spoiler: it was easy and everyone got it  Very Happy) There's also a new sample hand, this one was randomly generated by Magic Online.

My closing thoughts segment was inspired by a conversation I had with someone I know. You'll have to read it and see what you think. No interview this week, but I'm accepting applications via Email.

Thanks for reading!

Nice article.

I like the hand a lot.  Snap keep.  Anything with Ancestral, Jace and non-Wasteable mana to play him after opponent's second turn is Snap Keep.  I'd play Island, Chalice 0, go.  EoT Ancestral (or in resp to first spell if they play a Shop or Sol land), then roughly plan to Ice their land in following upkeep if not a fetchland, and play Jace the following turn.  It bears noting that hands like this against ? opponents are exactly why Gitaxian Probe is such a Godsend (though not necessarily in this Chalice @ 1 oriented list).

Thanks for reading and commenting. I hope to have a "theory piece" published again sometime soon. It's been a while since I went deep on a card/strategy. This link (also found in the article) is the type of article that I am the most proud of: [ http://puremtgo.com/articles/eternal-spotlight-mental-probing-and-gitaxian-missteps ]

Interviews are a lot of fun, and people seem to enjoy them, but I want to mix it up a bit in the coming weeks.

On a side note, I started this particular series at the same time as I was making my first Vintage decks. Previously, I had been writing Legacy content. The Eternal Spotlight was meant to merge my Legacy content with Vintage articles based on my experiences playing Vintage, but Legacy has taken a back seat. The reason for this is that I'm playing Vintage almost exclusively, and Legacy already gets much more content produced for it elsewhere. It occurred to me that by focusing more on Vintage, I could write for a segment of the Magic community that is somewhat marginalized by the WOTC and the community at large.

Great article as always.

Do you think its possible to play a best of 3 between you and the person who you interview? Each pick their own deck. Would be glad to read an in depth matchup analysis. Just an opinion as those starting hands needs more analysis.

That's a great idea! I'll see what I can do.

If you're committed to Ancestral on their turn why would you not do it in their upkeep, when it has the best chance of resolving?

Two basics, a Sol land and a way to shut down Mana rocks? That's a keep.

Also thanks for bringing this to my attention. I have to pick a deck for the top 8 of the local league and I fear Shops, Dirty MUD and Mentor. This I like a lot. Thanks.

You can find it from here, this is his profile: http://www.twitch.tv/richshay/profile

I'm adding some links to Vintage Streams in this article. There's a lot more coming, but that's one thing. Spread the word!
