In this article I hypothesize the potential impact of the new changes to the restricted list.  Hope you all enjoy!

I enjoyed this, in particular the format / approach you took.

My hypothesized real reason: Wizards has had a policy for a while now of avoiding printing cards that cause non-interaction, and with the spot light back on Vintage due to the Vintage Super league and record attendance at Worlds they are going to want to enforce that policy here as well.

I actually like this suggestion for the "real reason" to the change to Chalice of the Void.  Would even take it further that basically no other card played right now has the unfun gotcha moments of chalice being out and people forgetting one way or another to the effect.  Either casting a mox into chalice and having to lose it or casting it but not noticing the chalice and letting it go causing broken game states.

Yes the whole you can't cast any spells at this converted mana cost is a very odd ability that just spells unfun to me.  Unlike other cards it did not mention a specific converted mana cost or a less/greater than.  Engineered explosives is one of the few other cards that compares to it in this way, and also has some very odd interactions with things like spheres (although more due to sunburst).  Overall, I think we are in a better place with it gone.  I tried to be objective in this piece, but I had been advocating for its restriction for some time now.

Thanks for the article, I liked it a lot. I'm still not sold on chalice, I liked how it preyed on decks filled with 1CC costs, and I used to play it long time ago in monored.

I'd like to see some rogue decks beating blue, but who knows...

College is my main concern right now, so I have not been playing Vintage recently. However, these changes are very interesting. Entirely new decks should be possible, and I cannot wait to test them out over winter break. Most importantly, I can test out new storm variants.

Yeah chalice was nice for some of the rogue monored decks, but it was also restricting for them as well.  Lightning bolt, Gorilla Shaman, Welder, and other 1 drops which would've been great against shops weren't because of the existence of chalice.  Hopefully in a future article I'll be able to cover some mono red.

As an educator it's good to hear you setting your priorities straight!  For whatever free time you find, brewing for Vintage should be incredibly exciting right now.  I always found it a good warm up exercise before my course work.
