This week I submitted an extra article outside of the regular Vintage series. This is a look at some of the creatures that were once tournament staples, but that have since become outclassed. Also, some creatures that were hyped back then, but that are just laughable now.

I think Oldschool players might like this, I certainly hope so! Whoever "Claw" is, he really seems to love it!

While I appreciate the effort to create lots of Vintage conten to be honest I don't disagree with Claw's assessment.  It would be nice to see you just do one article a week and put a little more effort into that one.

The article lacks focus.  You deviate from the main premise multiple times to talk about Balduvian horde, and some other random times.

The arguement is also unfinished. You start by mentioning power creep, but don't real go into it that much.  You state where we were at the start, the changing point, but there is no focus on where we are now (monastery mentor).

There are also fallacies.  Leviathan was never the best option to cheat in with show and tell (or an option at all).  I could find cards printed this year that are also terrible to be cheated in.  The options have obviously gotten better, but just because they were printed a long time ago doesn't mean they were played.

I have really enjoyed the article. I started playing in august of 95, and some of those creatures were really hyped. Balduvian horde was 12€, quite prohibitive for a 14 years old, but I had my Sengir vampires for 1.2€ each, royal assasin for a bit more than 5€ (assassin could be played even now!). I bought horde few years later for 3€, not realizing it was not good anymore. Ernham was well recognized, but there was an even more important creature in some green lists: autumn willow, costing over 6€. To make a comparison, I got my underground seas and volcanic for 6-7€, but they reached low values of 1.2€. Boosters were just under 3€ and I got my first deck (4th edition in spanish, black border) for 9€, saving my pay for 3 weeks.

I miss Sengir Baron and Shivan Dragon from your list, two real beaters. I never liked Baron so much, but I have even played Shivan this century with some success in old extended format.

If you're trying to be offensive, you've succeeded. That person that you say you agree with has posted nothing but abusive comments about me, as if he has some personal vendetta. I put a lot of effort into everything I do, and I get paid to do it. Obviously that's in addition to working at my normal job, but still I use that money to help feed my family.

As far as your comments on the article, you're making it sound like it was supposed to be something more than a fun look at some old creatures. I haven't re-read the piece since it went to the editor, but I thought I made it clear that NOBODY EVER played a lot of those creatures. Sure, at the beginning I was going for tournament staples, but I kind of ran out and expanded what creatures I would put in there.

For the record, I would never go on this website and crap on someone's work in such a fashion, even if I secretly disliked it immensely.

This was meant to be constructive criticism.  I'm asking you to place more thought and effort into your articles.  If you have time to put out two a week you clearly have time to put out one better one.  Claw's comment was about your article not you.  It seems youve gone through and deleted all the negative comments so I can't bring the actually quote now.  For someone so sensitive you seemed to have no problem calling the people who thought Balduvian Horde was good idiots.

According to the articles title and the opening paragraph I expected this article to be about power creep.  Not just " oh look at these old creatures they suck and I can't believe people thought they were good" in a condescending offensive tone the whole time.

What we mean to communicate, and what we actually communicate, are two separate things.

Content generation is greatly appreciated by the staff of TMD.  If anyone has any criticism for any authors on the site, please reach out to them directly.  Making a mess of things in the article discussion is not appreciated.

I am not going to issue any warnings, but I am going to ask that everyone stay on point from here on out.

Any further negative comments may result in action by the staff.

Sorry Nick, but I think an article publically insulting people needs to be addressed publically.

Dug up my TMD account just to QFT this.

Thanks for the articles! Really like reading about those 'good old days'. Although me and my brother started playing MtG around the time Exodus was released, we were really impressed by the competitive decks we saw friends play. And I do recognise the creatures mentioned.

Absolutely Smile This one actually had great numbers so far, but I kind of directed it at different audience than my normal work.
