Was any other Pats fan irriatated when Peyton did his post game interview all sweaty in AFC championship gear and saying all the right things and Brady comes out freshly showered and wearing a prissy white button down shirt? I'm not solely blaming him for the loss of course, as no team should expect to win a playoff game when they allow 32 second half points, but still, as the leader of this team and the sports icon of the region I expected him to look a little more disheveled and sound a little more disappointed.

Might as well make some predictions of my own
Travis Laplante Ashok Chitturi Eric Dupuis Crossman Wilkins Simon Guerette Eli Kassis Justin Bransfield Roland Chang Justin Timoney Andy Probasco Nate Pease Dave Feinstein Jason Zheng Kyle Leith Dave Lawrence Brian DeMars
I don't even know if all these people are going, but as far as I am concerned, they all made top16.

Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: It's time to have a Serious Discussion about Proxies Again

It's my personal opinion that while 10 proxies seems to be the new developing standard for proxy counts in tournaments it should be raised by a few proxies, perhaps to the 12-15 proxy range. My feeling for this increase it that it allows those players without the more expensive cards in the format a chance to try it out by proxying some dual lands and some other type 1 staples they may not have and playing a budget deck. While often not the most optimal decks, or the most finely tuned list, it gives newer players a taste of the format while still allowing them to be somewhat competitive, which is an important piece to them enjoying the format. If they decide they enjoy playing type 1, then they can go invest in the staple cards like demonic tutor, fetchlands etc. and then use their proxies for power and play other decks, increasing their competitiveness and the competition level of the tournaments they participate in. This keeps it fun for everyone, as those who enjoy playing type 1 can do so without getting another job or selling their car to acquire power and those who have power don't have to face less than optimal decks like Sui Black or Parfait or something at a tournament, increasing their enjoyment as well.
In the end it seems to me that the rising popularity of this format over the past year plus has been both good and bad, as it has brought in a slew of new players but in turn has increased the prices of many type 1 cards to a level that is quite steep for those still looking to get in on the action. Thus, I feel that the proxy limit should rise slightly to meet this rise in prices and keep the new faces coming and allowing them to be competitive.

Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Poker Players?

Several of my friends play on partypoker and they all clean house on the site. Generally the word among my friends is that party poker is a great place to start playing at the lower tables, and as you get better you'll just make more and more money. I have 3 friends who play fairly regularly and combined they must have made almost 10 thousand dollars this year playing online poker. One of them made almost 1500 in the course of a day.
Also, we have started playing limit games instead of no limit games, and if you watch your opponents and play semi-tight you can make a good amount of money in limit games.
As for myself, I don't have the time or the patience to play online poker anymore but i plan on picking it up again this summer as sort of a second job. As long as you play relatively conservatively, and mix up your playstlye every once and a while you should do well with online poker.

I agree with Klep here. If for instance in Diablo 2 Healing Potions are replaced with Pepsi's and Equipment that you pick up has Nike, Reebok and other such logo's on it, I may have to quit playing Video games. If they just use the advertisements in a non-obtrusive, unrealistic way I don't have a problem with it.

If you can get any booster box from Urza's block and up for the same price I would get a box of Urza's Saga as that set contains some of the best Vintage cards (Yawgmoth's Will, Tolarian Academy, Duress) as well as a number of other good cards for trading purposes. Also, Mirrodin is a good set in terms of type 1 playable cards and good trade stock.
As for the preconstructed decks, I don't know the lists for all of them, but in general I don't think that you would be better off buying one of those over some packs.

I would recommend adding in the factories for additional beats as well as the strong synergy with Crucibles. To deal with FCG, sideboarding Engineered Plagues are very effective in combination with the MD edicts and early mana denial. As you said, balck can hate out dragon pretty well post board with a combination of planar void and coffin purges, as well as tormod's crypt. Tormod's crypt can also be useful against decks like Tog and Madness, albiet situationally so, by dealing with problems faced by these decks having large graveyards (lethal tog, circular logic's conditions, as well as wonder).
Also, you considered Mind Twist, but decided agaisnt running it. What was your reasoning for this? Did you prefer other disruption? Fear Misdirection or simply find it suboptimal?

I used to think that I wanted a Porsche when I got older. Then my friend's dad got a BMW and thus they were selling off their old Volvo and my mind was instantly changed. The Beast was mine.
The 1984 Volvo 240. Automatic Transmission, White with creeping rust around the rear tires. Broken sunroof (doesn't fully close). 175,000 miles. Torn leather interior. You have to use a coat hanger to open the hood.
On the plus side, it has a CD player in it and it runs really smoothly despite the appearance. Im totally driving this car forever.

Oh, don't worry, he would have had mazes in his sidebpard along with all kinds of other stuff....if he had a sideboard. I called him from the store and asked if he was coming when we were getting ready to start. HEaring the 20+ turnout that was there vs. the usual 5 people, he hauls ass over there and borrows like a bunch of key cards from me and we start, him having no real sideboard of consequence. As a note, he asked before he started should he have tormod's crypt in his board and me being the tool that I am say no since no one will be playing reanimator. gg me for being a tool.
As far as the deck was concerned, it performed much better than I thought it would, and handled the gay/r mirror very smoothly. My main fear when first seeing this deck was the vulnerability of the mana base, but it hasn't ever really been a problem in all the games I have watched him play, as long as you properly use the fetches.
Also, random aside, i played a joke Trix deck, with green splash soley for dryads. Man was that thing a hilarious pile to play. I was a big fan of my turn two Crucible/Strip mine lock i pulled one game (after boarding).
Good job with the deck man, keep playing it and testing things out as I feel that it is a very strong deck and one that so far doesn't seem to hate you.

I have heard a lot of people say: "oh, you're time walking to get an extra land drop, whatever." I am personally of the feeling that especially in tempo based decks like this and even more so in gay/r fish, that extra land drop can be very critical, as can the extra card drawn. It can give you an extra threat (via manland or casting a creature) and give you more mana to cast a stifle/counter or something. Gaining this tempo advantage is critical to this deck, and time walk is a great facilitator of this goal and thus cutting it is a bad choice IMO.

Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / A tale of two tourneys another win for ur fish & team ME

From what I can read, it seems like the people who are supporting echoing truth have either seen it in action or have played with it. I am personally a big fan of it, as it has so many good uses (especially against workshop decks I find). One thing to think about though is that it is a 2cc spell, like a large majority of the deck, and so the very commom play of chalice for 2 against fish renders echoing truth useless, where a chain of vapor (1cc) or rebuild perhaps (3cc) would get around that. Rebuild has cycling as well, so if you did decide to play that over the truth for whatever reason, you could always cycle it for another card. Just something to think about.

Ill be in Boston visiting my girlfriend, so unfortunately I won't be in attendance to play against half the people i came to the tournament with, as usual. If we are taking some sort of vote, im all for Team Backwoods...but only because I don't have a sister to marry. Also, call me an inbred hick or whatever, but how much is the entry fee. I didn't happen across that info in the original post.

Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / [Mini-Primer] A Beginner's Guide to Improving FCG

As I stated in a PM to godzilla, knowing what options are best taken out to make room for sideboarding in would be the most helpful. I played FCG in a tournament this past weekend, and while it performed well for me all day, I think I may have had a better shot at winning instead of finishing in third. My sideboarding was an absolute mess (although sideboarding against a highlander deck is just a terrible thing to have to do) and with an article/mini-primer of the proposed nature, a large part of the community would benefit.

I believe the card you are thinking of is Rhystic Study from Prophecy:
Rhystic Study - 2U Enchantment Whenever an opponent plays a spell, you may draw a card unless that player pays 1
which is a big upgrade over Mystic Remora from Ice Age:
Mystic Remora - U Enchantment Cumulative upkeep 1 Whenever an opponent plays a noncreature spell, you may draw a card unless that player pays 4
ah cumulative upkeep...
