1  Vintage Community Discussion / Rules Q&A / Grafdigger's Cage + Oath of Druids on: January 24, 2012, 03:02:32 am
For reference:
+

Cage doesn't prevent Oath from triggering and start revealing cards from the library, but stops the creature from ever entering the battlefield.
I guess the revealed cards prior to the creature all go to the graveyard, but what happens to the creature card? Does it get stuck on the top of your deck?

Thank you!

6  Eternal Formats / Blue-Based Control / Re: [Deck Analysis and Discussion - Blue Based Control] The CHaPuZaS Solution on: July 22, 2010, 07:48:12 am
I posed this exact same questions in the local forums Eternal Catala and didn't get any response.
I hope you can answer them here:

- With 3 Grudges maindeck you should stop Vault+Key decks theoretically. The problem is those decks usually play Dark Confidants, which should beat your card advantage and damange race. Post sideboard, I don't see the matchup improving, unless you sideboard Bolts to shore up the Confidant problem. If this is the case, what do you SB out?

- What are the reasons that bring you to sb-out Brainstorm on the 2nd and 3d games? My impression is that in the 2nd-3rd game bs is even more important than in the 1st game.

- Considering you don't run either all the restricted draw spells nor Confidants: what are the reasons for the non inclusion of Vampiric and Mystical besides you don't like card disadvantage. Wouldn't it be beneficial to play them to have access to your most powerful one-ofs such as Strip Mine and Tinker?

- When you win with Roar, do you normally play it from hand or from the grave?

I don't know if they post here on TMD, but I have a few questions about Ugo Rivard and Ian Sauvé's decks.
Bear in mind I don't know your metagame and this is why I want to know about this unconventional card choices.

Triskelion: was this included beacause it's a good Tinker target vs opposing Confidants, plus an additional win condition?
Platinum Angel: what is its main use, so you don't die to Confidant flips? Does it steal enough wins vs combo and/or Ichorid first game for you?
Blood Moon: what's the purpose of this inclusion maindeck, and the two extra copies in the sideboard?

Thank you.

I will be there as will a lot of the participants of the Cabrera 2007 Vintage tourney you attended.
See you there!

The date for this tourney is October 31st, that's a Saturday, when our LCV tourneys happen Smile
This one in particular took place in Badalona.

12  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: How much power do you own? on: August 21, 2009, 12:06:51 pm
This is what I own:

Full Power9.
Full MWS, Bazaar, Drain.
Vault, Seal, LoA, 3 Grim, 12 Blue duals, most playables so I can build almost any deck.

Stormanimagus raised a few suitable questions about how is Power distributed throughout the world, so I'll try to illustrate what is going on in my metagame.

This numbers relate to the Catalan Vintage League thanks to the statistics put together by Roger Riera (gRR!! on the net).
The highlighted zone in the spanish territory is where CVL is monthly hold, and where 99% of the participants come from.
Conservatively speaking, we have +40 complete sets of Power9 actively taking part in those tourneys. Moreover, there might be +10 partial sets of Power9 active in our area too.

I encourage Euro&American members to estimate how many P9 cards are in their respective metagames so we can have a better idea of what is going on with its distribution worldwide. It'd be cool to have a 'demographic' map of P9 to determine what's best for the future of our format.
13  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: [results] Catalan Vintage League 09 6th tournament on: August 19, 2009, 05:45:19 pm
CVL is still on  Very Happy

We had a tourney for July, unfortunately the top8 lists aren't ready yet.

We'll have the August tourney Saturday the 29th, sorry.

There's the CLL (Catalan Legacy League) on the 22nd though. I think they have some BB & WB duals for top8 prizes.

Firstly, I'd like to thank you for sharing this report with all of its intricacies and for sharing your thoughts with no reservation.

I have a couple of questions regarding your list and your sideboard technique:

Your UbaStacks lists have historically played 8 on color producing lands (4 Mountain + 4 Ring) to support Welder + Sideboard. In

this new list and the addition of black, you're playing:
5 Red/Black land
2 Black land
1 Red land
I see this as a potential problem for casting your spells. Has it been for you?
For reference, this is the on color land count for:
Twaun's list is: 6 R/B, 2 B, 1 R
Meandeck's list is: 5 B/R, 3 B, 2 R

I'd like you to ellaborate on the fact that you sideboard Jester's for the Ritual and Drain matchup, because I guess you don't sideboard out Rods. They're obviously dissynergistic, are you trying to go towards a critical mass in those matchups?

15  Vintage Community Discussion / Rules Q&A / Re: About Tezzeret and Tendrils on: June 30, 2009, 04:41:57 pm
Thank you all, you cleared that up perfectly for me.
16  Vintage Community Discussion / Rules Q&A / About Tezzeret and Tendrils on: June 30, 2009, 10:23:37 am
Our group has doubts about the interaction (or lack of) between Tendrils of Agony cast on a Tezzeret.

- Is Tezzeret a legal target for Tendrils as it's considered a player?
- If so, does Tendrils' loss of life make Tezzeret loose loyalty counters?

Thanks in advance!

I hope this gives a better insight about our metagame, here in Barcelona area.

It'd be great to see the European metagames confront... maybe we'll finally see the transatlantic clash... hopefully!
19  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: [Article] Crossing the Vintage Ocean on: August 16, 2007, 11:29:58 am
I think the main difference between the American and European metagame is that the American is shaped by fads and the European is by experience.
I have the impression that when americans have identified the most broken strategies they tend to play that deck no matter what because they believe in its raw power. On the other hand, europeans try the new decks and then decide what they are better suited for: playing the best deck through hate, or playing other decks they are good at which have a shot at beating the top decks.
This is obviously a generalization, but those are my feelings after 6 years playing european vintage.
20  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: [RESULTS] Top 8 Perramox 3/3/07 on: March 12, 2007, 05:50:29 pm
Just for the record, Perramox tourneys use to be played in a very relaxed and friendly atmosphere; so that means there's no hardcore competitive attitude.
I'm glad the Perramox series are back!
21  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: [Results] 1 Tournament, 8 Black Lotus, Valencia (Spain) top16 decklist on: November 09, 2006, 04:46:53 am
Where did all those "Intuitive" decks go?  Weren't those dominating the Catalonia league--which is in Spain?  Or am I just an idiot?

Intuitive is very popular in Catalonia where a lot of Fish is played. I suppose Gifts a better deck choice if you plan to see few Fish decks, because it was a 10 proxy event.
22  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: [Results] T1 Badalona - Spain T8 on: November 02, 2006, 10:45:39 am
The top 3 ranked players of LCV (Vintage Catalan League) earned 80% of their points by playing Intuitive, it says everything about the deck in our metagame. I think Intuitive is not as broken as Gifts, but on the other hand is easier and more straightforward to play than Gifts; probably that's why we choose it.
23  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: Should Gifts be Restricted? An outsider's perspective. on: November 01, 2006, 04:27:09 am
Hi, you should read this The Vintage Paradox by Moxlotus: http://www.starcitygames.com/php/news/article/12828.html

In my opinion Gifts should not be restricted, even less for the reason you argue. Being a average vintage player isn't harder than in any other format. There's no point in restricting Gifts to lower the skill in vintage because we should have to do the same with other cards. Newcomers will learn the basics of how to split a Gifts pile in a few games if they know how a Gifts deck is built.
24  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: non-control Slaver on: October 31, 2006, 11:21:56 am
The deck lacks focus and it hasn't got a pre-established win condition. Also, it'll have problems casting all those expensive artifacts if Welder+Thirst fail. 4 Duress is an obscene low amount of disruption vs control, combo and fish.
Having pointed the obvious I'll suggest some routes the deck can take to improve:

-Strenghten the mana denial plan. CotV seems to fit in the maindeck.
-Modify your mana base so you can hard-cast the artifact fat. Ancient tomb comes to mind.

CotV doubles as disruption and slows the game down to your decks speed (which is tremendously slow).
Tombs might help casting artifacts reducing your reliance in Thirst, and at the same time it improves your welding targets.

25  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: U/b/r Fish, a new drain deck? on: October 29, 2006, 10:21:41 am
Well, let's go to the basics.

If you want to be able to cast Mana Drain reliably you need to play at least 15 stable blue mana sources, so you'll need an extra 2 in your list. Haven't you had mana problems to cast Drains?

26  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: What are you listening to right now? on: October 24, 2006, 10:13:39 am
The Knife - We share our mothers health - Trentemoller remix

Trentemoller does a good work remixing tech-pop, really.
27  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: UB trix (part 2) on: October 01, 2006, 10:53:56 am
The first problem you should consider is the lack of a reliable draw engine. The only card advantage you play is Recall and the only way to get it without a card-disadvantage tutor is Demonic Tutor.

It'd be a good thing if you played a minimum of 24-26 mana sources, as most top tier Drain decks have been playing with success. I guess the 2 Sea 3 Grave split is because of your budget, if it isn't, 4 Seas are mandatory with all that black spells wanting to be played 1st turn, not to mention the shock-lands damage really adds when facing Fish decks. This is a possible mana base you might like:

1 Black Lotus
1 Mox Emerald
1 Mox Jet
1 Mox Pearl
1 Mox Ruby
1 Mox Sapphire
1 Sol Ring
1 Mana Crypt
1 Mana Vault
4 Polluted Delta
1 Flooded strand
4 Underground Sea
5 Island
1 Swamp
1 Tolarian Academy
28  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: [Decklists] T8 Barcelona 18-02-06 on: February 23, 2006, 03:37:30 pm
Wette and I split the prize on the finals and we played just one game to decide who took the title (we both mulled to 0).

There is quite a lot Stacks in our meta, I'd say there are about 10 playsets of Workshops in our tourneys.
29  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: [Deck] Thirst For Knowledge in 'Tog' on: February 05, 2006, 12:49:16 pm
But if you look at AK/Intuition under other circumstances, it's just a 3 for 2 card advantage for 3UU.

This is actually a 3x1 card advantage. Scroll (-1) to fetch Ancestral (+1), Ancestral (-1) to draw 3 (+3). So your net gain are 2 cards.
I completely agree with Kowal, I think that Scroll has so many targets it will fetch the best blue instant in each situation, which is not Ancestral every time. Default plays are not always the way to go, and with the flexibility Scroll gives you can easily take off guard your opponent.

Anders, you were inspired by a deck that leans towards combo and you designed a deck which has a very strong control flavour, was that your intention?
30  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: TT Confident (a.k.a. The Perfect Pile) on: January 31, 2006, 12:22:32 pm
I'm confused about a number of things in the deck.

I think this is common to all of us trying to break this deck. This means well thought input on the deck is more than welcome!

My list differs from yours in:
- LoA, -Desire, -Chain, -Ritual, -Gush
+Brainstorm, +Bargain, +Top, +Fact, +Thirst

I try to build the deck redundantly to avoid the most bad topdecks as I can. Excess Tops can be pitched to Thirst or Brainstormed away. I think that Brainstorm and Top don't overlap as much as people think they do, they serve similar purposes with slight, but important, differences.

I'm not a big fan of LoA, but this are my thoughts about it right now. As good as it is, I feel it's too slow for the environment. Even "control" decks such as Gifts, T1T etc. can force you quite easily to go down to 6-5 cards playing game deciding bombs. If you opt for letting those bombs resolve you'll usually get the same card advantage with LoA in two or three turns. The important thing is the opponent will have gained CA with no tempo loss at all, when you'll be forced to tap a mana source to draw a card every turn (not that it's a bad thing), and most importantly they'll have UU up before you do. I don't like LoA because I play the deck aggressively and I feel that it's more of a win more card when you already have 7 cards in hand due to a Confidant. To top it all, it's the only Wastelandable land in the deck with Academy. I'd really like you to convince me to use LoA because I think it's a great card, but too conditional.

Fact is amazing, try it Smile I'll definitely test Gush in place of the 3rd Thirst.

As a random thought, too many times I've found no sink for Mana Drain mana, other than Top, which is not a very spectacular mana sink...
