It's about time. Now to find a dodgey guy to do it.
3  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: New Birds of Paradise picture ... on: September 26, 2005, 09:01:06 pm
I think the art is done well with the flavour of the set an it looks alot like a REAL bird of paradise. However the old picture is the best by far.
4  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: What card do you like the most? and WHY? on: September 20, 2005, 08:13:19 pm
Capsize, so subtle, so awesome. I have won highlander tournaments because of buyback.
5  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: More Misprint Questions on: September 18, 2005, 02:56:24 am
Filler cards have a black border on the front, foils ripped off don't.
6  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Playmats on: September 14, 2005, 01:13:28 am
Mise one from people who play VS. Thats what I did, nice art perfect size.
7  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Best basic lands on: September 12, 2005, 01:17:57 am
I like specific foil lands:

Avon island from invasion
Avon forest from invasion
Alexander mountain from Masques
Avon plains from invasion
Eggleton swamp (moon pic) from 8th

I also love the Australia plains and EURO lands. Guru's don't tickle my fancy, so ugly.
8  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Ozzfest Ruined. Iron Maiden Disrespected on: August 24, 2005, 04:20:19 am
While I am not a huge fan of Iron Maiden (or a fan of any variety) I still am shocked that anyone would go see a famous a band as Iron Maiden and do these things, since they know what they are in for. Personally I would be honored to go see such an influentail and groundbreaking band as Iron Maiden, and anyone who is not willing to give them respect should be shot.
9  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Digging up the past: B/R schools of thought now and then on: August 23, 2005, 06:31:54 am
I think Mr. Fantasy's point was that we, or any player, may have personal opinions, or make assumptions about what should or should not be, however more often than not the DCI know whats going on, they have their finger on the pulse. I agree, people complained about hypotheticals their arguments were void, nothing had happened.

Personally their are a whole lot of cards I would like to see restricted, but it's all based on personal hate of a card, not any real fact.

As far as speculation on prices goes, the best solution to this problem I've heard (if reprints did occur) is to simply print the power without pictures, honestly, who wants to own a card thats not got art. Of course that in turn poses problems about counterfeiting etc.

Of course there is always the option of printing foil promo's, judge foils etc. Those foils were originally created to provide incentive for judges to judge high-caliber events, who wouldn't judge a PT for a foil Mox, or bazaar? However this doesn't solve the problem of price, the foils aren't going to impact the supply a great deal which means the old versions are still just as expensive.

There isn't a perfect answer as far as reprints are concerned, personally I doubt they will happen. The only time I can see moxen being reprinted is if the game starts to SERIOUSLY lose popularity.

I would like to buy power that did not have art if it costed less.  I'm more about functionability than aesthetics.  I'd rather have the cards to play than have the most pimped out deck.  Once I have the deck built, thats a different story.  I pimp away then, but until that point, and by that I mean owning full power, I would gladly buy the non-pictured power.

That what? Effectively proves my statement? That the best reprints that could get printed would be pictureless? Also, would this mean the price of normal power would stay the same? I beleive the price of cards is not only the reason this idea exists but also the main concern not only of people interested in reprints, but also wizards.

Chris Moeller

Triskellion, deed, meddling mage there are so many GOOD cards he has done, and done well.
13  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: Aggro Workshop vs. Cerebal Assasin on: August 14, 2005, 07:45:17 am
As far as assasin builds go, I've been playing it for ages here in Australia, and I have done pretty well

Try circular logic over the FoW/duress trust me, you'll be impressed. Intuition is ridiculous. I'm not impressed with reanimate or living wish, if they work for you thats great, but I think they are two slow for me.

Lunar and Nataz, any thoughts on the Uba stax machup? I've played the deck for ages, but I am having trouble with this matchup, my bazaars always die. Also, what list are you using nataz?
14  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Magic the Gathering Cardface- Good or Bad? on: August 10, 2005, 04:32:59 am
I think some of the cards look alot better with the new face, while some would look MUCH better with the old face, this is especially true with foils. Generaly black and red cards look better, while blue and white look worse, the change in green is not that signifigant.
15  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: The Perfect Storm: A Primer on: August 05, 2005, 07:35:41 am
I find that I have been avle to draw quite a few, I have even tutored up a few to protect my will etc.

Also, many times the gifts player keeps a fairly weak hand in the first game, which makes EVEN ONE duress insane and on the pplay you can often destroy their strategy.
16  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: The Perfect Storm: A Primer on: August 05, 2005, 06:45:51 am
I've been playing TPS in my area and I have an insane matchup against the gift's player, I think the only thing you need to do, is;

1. Mulligan into mutiple Duress
2. DON'T PLAY YOU DRAW 7's EVER.

I play a build with only 1 gifts and none in board, for some reason its never TAHT good, and I always wish it was something that gives me card advantage, instead of what it is. Also the large number of gifts and Uba stax in my area means I play 2 Rebuild and 1 hyruls recall main.
17  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Do you collect a specific vintage card, and why? on: July 19, 2005, 02:15:24 am
I collect drinker of sorrow, I really like the artword my collection is over 200 at the moment. I also collct cool foil lands that strike my fancy, especially some of the eigth ones are hot.
18  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Gamingetc proxies on: July 18, 2005, 02:23:51 am
I am in favor of ripping foils off the card face, with no noticable thickness change you have produce something that can be written on easily and is quite distinguishable as a proxy.
19  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Long4 on: July 15, 2005, 07:59:59 am
Anybody??? Than why haven't you, or I, hit "gold"? Why aren't the decks I create as intense and awesome as the ones he did, sure not every deck he made has been a sucess but that doesn't mean hes not a brilliant deck designer - or player.
20  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Long4 on: July 14, 2005, 09:22:56 pm
That may be, however, no one here came up with it. You have to admit from an outside piont of view its a pretty wierd combo using some (at that time) bad cards, if your going to continualy give him shit about cheating the least you can do it give him credit for making an original combo deck that worked amazingly well.
21  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Organizational System on: July 14, 2005, 09:19:10 pm
Well I stuffed all my playable rares and foils into a folder and all my playable commons and uncommons into a 500 count box- that serves me well, apart from that the rest of it ends up in a 1100 count box under my desk, which is unbeleivably disorganised.
22  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: Proxy Poll on: July 14, 2005, 09:14:00 pm
I voted for 10 proxies, allowing 10 gives a much greater flexibility than five, but also forces the person entering type 1 to shell out some monies, frankly, if they aren't willing to pay $300 or whatever to play with 10 fake cards in ther deck, than they aren't really going to contribute alot to the format.
23  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: How many of you like giant fighting robots? on: July 14, 2005, 08:22:33 am
Its times like these I wish I could bid with monopoly money.
24  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: It's time to have a Serious Discussion about Proxies Again on: July 09, 2005, 02:57:04 am
As far as making a "good" proxy goes; I have had sucess with ripping the foil off a foil card. Yes, I actually turned that foil cackling imp into something useful- a mox jet. The cards have a very VERY small difference in thinkness and, unlike championship or CE cards you can play them in white or non-opaque sleeves.
25  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: A Tale of Origins, by JD on: July 06, 2005, 03:39:20 am
I really enjoyed reading your report, in Australia there aren't any big vintage tournaments in Australia so at least I get an idea of what its like.
26  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Will they make more of this card in the future? on: July 05, 2005, 09:22:54 am

I saw it at Origins and wasn't terribly impressed with it.  It looks ok, but the new card face and DCI logo makes it look pretty shitty in my opinion.  I prefer my Japanese ones.  I have Japanese dice to put on them, and the synergy of Japanese Gemstones and Japanese dice is just too much.  Anyone who saw it can confirm just how amazing it is.

I have to agree with the logo etc, the new face and the crappy, tacky DCI smack bang in the middle really makes it loose some of its appeal. Although I hate Japanese letters, the numbers are the most insane I have ever seen, I'll be keeping my German playset of Gemstone mines for the moment.

28  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: [Article] SCG Daily: The Keys to Making Top 8 In a Vintage Tournament on: June 02, 2005, 08:45:21 pm
I liked the article but I disagree on the part about scoping. Inj most of the su\ituations you describedm scooping was appropriate. However, when the game is not winnable I do not think scooping is alsways the best plan, several times I have prolonged game 1 round 1 because of my inability to write out decklists without making mistakes and have received a game loss on an unwinnable game instead of loosing round 1 0-2. just my point of view that, if you are bad with decklists, than prolong game 1 even if its not going anywhere, you also get the advantage to see more of your opponents deck.
29  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: The Pinnacle/Ideal 10 Proxy Budget Oath Build - No Mana Drains on: May 29, 2005, 01:12:11 am
I wasn't saying they were bad cards as such, but there are much better cards to run in Oath without creating a less consistent deck.
