So people will be forced to brew decks with substandard cards because they can't afford the good ones. And this will lead to new and innovative decks? I'm not sure I agree. I think it will lead to people trying to enter the format and giving up as they consistently underperform. Meanwhile an individual who has a top tier deck can't brew because they've put everything they have into the current deck and can't afford a second. I think it would be interesting to run a survey to get some data to test hypotheses against but I'm not in the position to run one sucessfully.

I think if they did away with the reserve list, and reprinted blue dual lands, the diversity in the metagame would actually decrease. I think Legacy tournamnets would consist of a bunch of players all showing up with the same blue cards in their decks because "blue is the best."
In the Channel Fireball article about the reserve list Steve Guillerm states "Legacy tournaments would have to near a player count of 100,000 before there’d be a serious concern about card availability." Unless he's wrong, I certainly don't know enough to say one way or the other, card availability isn't currently forcing diversity.

I think this would be worth trying (especially in oath) or as splash against other decks. I know it's been a while but I didn't see when this was posted. I came across this as well looking for anti token tech. Tokens aren't cards so they don't phase out.

From personal experience playing merfolk against storm there have been games where Memory Jar or Timetwister has turned my one land or creature hand into two or three counters. Drawing them into hurkyls is bad. Them responding with hurlyls sounds worse.

You guys should stop speculating without any need and simply read the Oracle on the card:
At the beginning of each player's upkeep, that player chooses artifact, creature, land, or non-Aura enchantment. All nontoken permanents of that type phase out. (While they're phased out, they're treated as though they don't exist. Each one phases in before its controller untaps during his or her next untap step.)
Changing creatures to nontoken creatures would be a power level errata. As is it just looks like clarification as the retemplated the cards.

I couldn't find any cards with original text referring to token cards. It's just creature token or token. But they do refer to creature cards in some cases and creatures in others mostly depending on the zone it's referring to. It looks like all of the former have been updated to nontoken creature cards.
Bazaar of Wonders and Arboria are two good examples of the change. Dual Nature is a good example of the design difference between tokens and cards.

You need to cheat this into play when your opponent has a well stocked graveyard. To me this would only happen off show and tell. If you're casting show and tell, relying on you're opponents graveyard sounds very risky and not game ending. If your opponent is casting show and tell, then this is terrible as a hate card.

I've been trying Leyline of Singularity.
It's important to remember that with the current Legend rules, the Mentor player still gets to keep 1 Monk token as long as they want. 1 Mentor 1 Monk is significantly better than 1 Mentor, and a lot of my kills have been with only one non-summoning-sick monk in play (i.e., sometimes Leyline will do literally nothing) My though was that it can constrain a broader range of strategies instead of being really good against one.

Seems about on par with Illness in the ranks, but also works sorta ok against Dredge. Any other uses? Well Shops can only put one of each sphere on the board and metamorph is two life to copy a factory. I haven't seen how limiting it would be for Acendency.
