If it seems to good to be true...
Every time someone has offered me a card for less because he said it might be fake, it's turned out to be fake. Even if they're willing to take it back if it turns out to be fake or something like that, it's such a hassle and just runs an unnecessary risk of problems. However, if you're convinced it's real and you think the price is fair, go for it.

KMC sleeves are pretty much the bomb. Years ago I liked Ultra Pro, but their sleeves seem terrible to me now. KMC, on the other hand, has a great feel and really seem to last a long time.
Regarding double sleeving, putting the KMC perfect size/fit/whatever sleeves has worked well for me with the KMC sleeves.

If anybody's interested there is also going to be Standard for boxes ($15 entry, 10 reg, 11 start) on Saturday, Modern for boxes ($15 entry, 10 reg, 11 start) and EDH *(1 pack per person eliminated, plus additional prize packs, $10 entry, 12 reg, 1 start) on Sunday.
So no Legacy on Sunday?

I'm going to move Legacy to Sunday.
I'll fix the announcements on the various forums today.
So I'm trying to gauge just how many players I'm going to end up with for the Legacy end of the event... How many of the Vintage players are considering staying for both days? The response on TheSource has been lackluster, but I'm not married to Legacy being the format for the second day - if people want Modern (or something else) I'm open to that too. Thoughts?
The current announcement has Legacy on Saturday, but you say here it's on Sunday. Which is it? Also, I would only attend the Legacy event.

I thought this was an outstanding article and said basically everything I've wanted to say about the format for a few months.
The only thing I missed was a discussion of Mishra's Workshop and stax. The coin toss is so important in this matchup. As opposed to thinking about whether a deck wins consistently, what if a deck's wins are simply arbitrary? This is how I see shops right now, as whether I've won or not has hinged significantly on whether I won the die roll. The idea that the outcomes depend more and more on the die roll lately has not been discussed (though the article did indirectly touch on this in discussing the early game counter wars).
Really, it comes down to the fact that if I wanted to spend all day traveling to and from an event to roll dice, I'd go to Atlantic City. This format is in need of a major overhaul (and I don't think Brian goes far enough, though it's a good start). Until then, it's pretty unlikely I'll be going to an event any time soon. Opponents of what Brian has suggested can (and in all probability will, since I doubt changes will be made) continue to play the format as is. However, I think the Vintage community, at least in New England, has started voting with its time and money; there are just better ways to spend both.

I'm willing to run this as the side event for the N.Y.S.E. at the end of the month. I'll note it on the advertisement for the event in the other forum.
I expect that participants would likely just pull the cards they can't run out of their decks and run their "normal" decks otherwise (if possible). Or just not play at all. Participants would need to prepare for this event with such drastic changes, something that I don't think people will do for a side event. I'm glad to see that you feel strongly about your idea. As things stand now, I'm uncomfortable taking the financial risk of guaranteeing prize support for a tournament like this by running this as the main N.Y.S.E. for the month. If you feel this strongly though, I can get you in touch with the various store owners you'd need to speak to in order to run the event, a judge who would potentially be interested in working your event and some people who may be able to sell you prize support. If you feel strongly about this, you should act on it. I really don't have the time to organize an event and instead was hoping that there would be a positive reaction to this in the hopes that someone else might run one. I expected some negative reactions, though not this overwhelmingly. I guess this answers the question for the time being.

Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Interest in Modified B/R List Tournament?

Piggybacking off the "old school" Vintage tournaments from a while ago, I was wondering if there would be any interest in a tournament featuring a modified B/R list, probably something along the lines of:
Time Vault is banned Mana Drain is restricted Dark Ritual is restricted Mishra's Workshop is restricted Bazaar of Baghdad is restricted
Assume the tournament would otherwise be a normal unsanctioned Vintage tournament with the traditional entry fee, proxies, and a reasonable prize (say an unlimited Mox). Would you travel for and attend such a tournament?

I'll add to this that I live right across the street from the East River in NYC. As much of a pain as it will be, if they tell me to leave, I'm going to leave. You should do the same if told to do so. Take this hurricane seriously.

| Allen Fulmer | Josh Potucek | Will Magrann | Corey Mann | Jeremy Beaver | | Ed Carey | Matt Elias | Nick Detwiler | Josh Meckes | Chris Materewicz | | Jeff Folinus | Rich Sim | Sam Berse | Ryan Glackin | Paul Mastriano | | John Jones | Shawn Anthony | David Earley | Mark Hornung | Steve Nowakowski | | Joe Brown | Vito Picozzo | Greg Fenton | Joe Davis | Jon Richards | While I'm flattered, David Earley = not attending. Sorry. Chris Pikula is probably a better pick for that slot.
