Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Goodbye

Recently, I posted a thread which has brought to my attention one fact: how little I am liked within this community. The focus of this thread was to exemplify how much I enjoyed participating with the members of TMD, using my post count as an example of this. Between carefully crafted putdowns, and not one sincerely encouraging letter, I realized that I don't actually want to participate on this site any longer. I honestly can't believe that a post that said "I really like TMD, and I hope to continue posting here for a lot longer" was flamed to the point where the thread could no longer stay open. I'm sure those of you who did decide to hurl a whole whack of negativity in my direction have a complex stream of reasoning as to why they decided to be jerks, but the fact remains that they have made me feel like I no longer belong on this forum.
To anyone who cares,
Goodbye

If anyone wants to see a truly AWFUL movie, please check out anything by the illustrious Mr. Albert Pyun, who is one of the worst directors I have ever run across. How he still gets work is beyond me, but some really hilarious shit is to be found in movies like: Mean Guns Omega Doom Brainsmasher: A love Story (Starring Andrew Dice Clay!!!!!!! LOL) These movies are all unintentionally hilarious, and terrible to boot, check out Pyun's track record on IMDB: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0701597/

Really, the preventing another person from drawing hasn't really been claimed by a color, because only very few cards can actually prevent a person from drawing a card. It would also go along with white's rule making abilities, and it could be an interesting mechanic for white to possess, because at this time white has virtually no disruption. I really don't think there is enough evidence to say that white can't have that sort of ability (plus, it's really cool).

I like Jacob's suggestion, because it takes the interesting part (paying life for turns) and leaves out the ridiculously complicated parts. If you wanted to keep this as an enchantment, why not do something like this:
1BBB
Pay 10 Life: Take and extra turn after this one.
This way, it kills you if you use it the second time, unless you have life gain (which is awful).

I like playing games, and I'm assuming that because you are browsing an internet site about magic cards, you do as well. I propose a new blockbuster format: The Suboptimal Choice or TSC for short.
This format is quite simple really. The point of this game is for someone to suggest a card, a terrible card, a card that if you had to play with it, you would probably punch yourself in the face, HARD. This card suggestion is now the focal point of your deck, the tiny nugget of crap that all of your plans revolve around. This card should be one of the central cards in the deck, which is somehow used to further your goal of winning the game (putting a Mudhole in your psychatog deck doesn't count). Once a card is suggested, it is your job to create the best possible deck around the card in question, and once you have made the deck, you are now allowed to suggest a suboptimal card for someone else to build a deck around. Card suggestions should be interesting:
Example of an interesting terrible card: Wood Elemental
Example of an uninteresting terrible card: Squire
After a little while, the decks that have been created by you, the loyal members of TMD will face off against one another and may the best creation win!
The Suboptimal Choice for this round is:
City of Shadows
Now go my little pretties! Create the best deck you possibly can around this card!!!

This actually sounds like a lot of fun! I could imagine tendrils of agony turning into just a good drain life, while all of the cards in a deck become more fair. That squee thing sounds HILARIOUS. Think parfait + slaver, or GAT + fish. It could even be fun top mix a T1 deck with a T2 deck, just for shits and giggles. Tooth and Nail + Slaver: Think about that!

The Green one seems very strong. I'm thinking about it in a Steel Golemish way. I agree with Jacob about the Black one being too weak, perhaps you could go with something like this: Divine Malice Sorcery Target player sacrifices a creature. If that player has three or more creatures in play, that player sacrifices two creatures instead.

Hooray! This tournament was a great success, and big ups for Legend taking a whole whack of time off to make all of these exciting match reports! The matches were a lot of fun to play, but also very time consuming. I hope everyone liked the format and found it as interesting as I do. Any post match comments or suggestions? Love to hear them.

Oooooooh, these are all quite even! Except for the Apocalypse/Saga one. Apocalypse will probably win that one, and champions will also probably win against Destiny. Here are my predictions for the highlight reel:
Tempest vs. Masques: Masques has proven in the past that it can win this matchup with disenchant and rishadan port, combined with rebel beatdown.
Torment vs. 5th Dawn: 5th Dawn has enough piddly creatures to protect against edict, so it all comes down to how fast it can get down a bringer, and how well it can protect it.
Antiquities vs. Betrayers: I have just been thinking about how good Betrayers actually is. In terms of beating aggro, Betrayers is actually much better than Champions is, and is probably the best anti-aggro deck in the whole field. See what happens when the unstoppable force hits the immovable object.

I think that discarding your hand is a way bigger drawback than say, getting shocked (ancient den). This isn't THAT good, even when combined with madness, because, unlike LED, it doesn't produce the colored mana that a lot of the madness cards require. I don't even know if I would play this in an extended madness deck.

Yeah... I agree with you that the turnout for this type of game has been waning quite a bit in the past few months. It's such an entertaining game, I wonder why it's been doing so poorly. I strongly encourage everyone reading this to take a look at some of the past few tournaments and just build a deck for shits and giggles, it takes like 5 minutes, and you can always just netdeck anyway. I'll be entering this tournament and I encourage everyone to do the same.

You also have 6 thoughtcasts for some reason. I would assume that the 4 thoughtcasts should be thirst for knowledges, because that would be a prudent way of dumping weldable artifacts into the graveyard. Other than that, it looks like a fun way of abusing goblin welder!

Say what you will about the card quality in Fallen Empires, but the art in that set is definately my favourite. The flavour of the cards is something that wizards should work to recreate, because so many cards are just bursting with it. I agree Matt, one of my favourites is the illustrations on Mindstab Thrull (the one that has the key, and is sewn together from various arms); such a cool peice of artwork! Hymn to Tourach (the one with the wizard sitting at the table), Icatian Town and Feral Thallid all have a very creepy feeling, and the flavour text is just spectacular. Also, unlike other earlier sets, this one actually has a story line that makes sense, without being too overbearing.
As the art goes, I enjoy #4, because it has a very interesting pattern, and definately looks like some sort of arcane glyph with magical properties. #8 utilizes lighting very well, and the action on the card looks very realistic. #9 is probably my favourite though, just because it's so wierd. It looks like something from another dimention!
