Vintage Community Discussion / Rules Q&A / Mana Flow - not a card question
|
on: August 13, 2007, 12:07:32 pm
|
|
Ok the first question I have is the way Mana flows, I know this may be a stupid question to some but it was never fully explained to me and I wouldn't really know where to look.
This is the way I think it flows, Mana from your first main does not go to your battle phase, mana from your battle phase does not go to your second man phase. Am I right in thinking this?
Basically the phase your in makes you use all your mana or you get burn, because mana does not transfer from one phase to another.
Please correct me if i'm wrong, as I said it was never fully explained to me, and i'm pretty sure I should know.

And then everything still taps. Thanks guys, appreciate the help, also thanks Anusien on the clarification of "In reponse". -Pb

Vintage Community Discussion / Rules Q&A / Timbermare and Temporal Adept

Timbermare Card type: Creature Creature type: Elemental Power/Toughness:5/5 Casting cost: 3 Card text: Haste Echo 5G(At the beginning of your upkeep, if this came under your control since the beginning of your last upkeep, sacrifice it unless you pay its echo cost.) When Timbermare comes into play, tap all other creatures. Temporal Adept Card type: Creature Creature type: Human Wizard Power/Toughness:1/1 Casting cost: 1 Card text: UUU, Tap: Return target permanent to its owner's hand Situation - I play Timbermare, and "In-response" my opponet pays and taps Temporal Adept to return Timbermare to my hand. My arguement is that Timbermare isn't even in play with Temporal Adept becomes tapped, therefor he has no target to "In-reponse" to, am I right in thinking this?

Vintage Community Discussion / Rules Q&A / Re: Soul Collector
|

Once a creature is "blocked", it stays blocked unless something makes it not a blocker anymore. Giving your dude flying via unmorph isn't good enough, as it is already "blocked".
During the Declare Blockers (and Declare Attackers) step, no abilities are allowed, not even unmporhing. After Nessie is declared a blocker blocking Vamp, then Vamp is blocked.
Spells and activated abilities CAN be played during the declare attackers and declare blockers steps. They cannot be played during the time when attackers and blockers are being declared (which is part of what happens during those 2 steps, but not all). Also, while a creature, once blocked, remains blocked, that doesn't really tell the whole tale in this case. All blocks must be legal when blockers are declared. That's the only time such legality is checked. If Creature A is blocking Creature X, and after that something changes so that it would not be legal to declare X as a blocker for A, that won't change anything, it just prevents X from being declared as a blocker for A, it won't undo any blocking assignments already made. So if I can try and understand this; What I was doing was legal Declare face-down Soul Collector as an attacker Opponet declares Nessian as the blocker for Soul Collector I pay to turn face-down Soul Collector face-up I kill Nessian with Soul Collector and gain control of Nessian via Soul Collector's ability Sorry for the misuse of the word 'morphed' - I swear the lingo of this game is more difficult to remember then the actual rules!' If you could clarify for me Clariax I would appreciate it.

Vintage Community Discussion / Rules Q&A / Soul Collector
|
on: May 12, 2007, 03:04:43 pm
|
Card type: Creature Creature type: Vampire Power/Toughness:3/4 Casting cost: 3 Card text: Flying Whenever a creature dealt damage by Soul Collector this turn is put into a graveyard, return that card to play under your control. Morph BBB (You may play this face down as a 2/2 creature for 3. Turn it face up any time for its morph cost.) Ok, It's my turn and I attack with a MORPHED soul collector, my opponet has Nessian Courser declared as a blocker, I then pay to Morph my Soul Collector. Now my question is, Nessian Courser does not have flying, does that mean that it can no longer be a valid blocker, and I don't deal damage to it and kill it with Soul Collector, then gain control with it? Thanks, -Josh

Flagstones of Trokair Card type: Legendary Land
Casting cost:
Card text: Tap: Add W to your mana pool. When Flagstones of Trokair is put into a graveyard from play, you may search your library for a Plains card and put it into play tapped. If you do, shuffle your library.
My opponest cast Small pox, I sacrifice my Flagstones triggering the ability, do I search my library strickly for a basic plains, or can I search for a card that taps for plains? Like another Flagstones of Trokair, or Hallowed Fountain?
Thanks, -PB

Vintage Community Discussion / Rules Q&A / Re: Momentary Blink + Akroma + Brute Force + Fatal Frenzy

Ok so I did some researched and learned a face down Akroma WILL come into play face up if momentary blinked.
My other question is still un-answered though.
Does Fatal Frenzy go off the base Power or when its powered up by a spell like Brute Force does the power increase for it to effect Fatal Frenzy.
Thanks.
Please don't double-post. -- TAL

Vintage Community Discussion / Rules Q&A / Momentary Blink + Akroma + Brute Force + Fatal Frenzy

Akroma, Angel of Fury Akroma, Angel of Fury can’t be countered. Flying, trample, protection from white, protection from blue R: Akroma, Angel of Fury gets +1/+0 until end of turn. Morph 3RRR(You may play this face down as a 2/2 creature for 3. Turn it face up any time for its morph cost.)
Momentary Blink Remove target creature you control from the game, then return it to play under its owner's control. Flashback 3U (You may play this card from your graveyard for its flashback cost. Then remove it from the game.)
Brute Force Target creature gets +3/+3 until end of turn.
Fatal Frenzy Until end of turn, target creature you control gains trample and gets +X/+0, where X is its power. Sacrifice it at end of turn.
I would like to know if this combination of cards worked:
Can you play Akroma down for a 2/2 and Momentary Blink her to bring her into play face up? Also if she was in the game face down for two turns, and I blink her up, does she have summoning sickness?
Say you can flip her as a 6/6 hit her with Brute Force making her a 9/9, then using Fatal Frenzy to make her an 18/9 and sacrifice her at end of turn.
Is this all viable?
Thanks!

Vintage Community Discussion / Rules Q&A / Re: Stufy Doll + Pariah's Shield + Volcano Hellion
|
on: April 12, 2007, 04:30:31 pm

Due to Pariah's Shield's effect, the Hellion ends up dealing 20 damage to the Stuffy Doll. Stuffy Doll triggers and deals 20 to the chosen player.
Hellion's ability says the damage can't be prevented. This means exactly that. If some effect prevents damage, it will say it prevents damage. Other effects that look or act similar but don't mention preventing damage are not damage prevention.
Since the damage is being done to stuffy doll and being redirected to my enemy, can he in turn prevent it? I know that on Volcano Hellion it says 'This damage can't be prevented' but since it's going through stuffy doll does it loose that effect when it targets an opponet? Thanks! -Josh

Vintage Community Discussion / Casual Forum / [Casual] Rebel Alliance!!

Okay.
I am in love with the rebels versatility, and have devised a deck that I found works great. But I know it can work better, and I would like to use the minds of other great Magic Players.
Rebel Creatures: (2)Defiant Vanguard - I chose him for two reasons, if someone is attacking I can use another rebel to call him out and possibly destroy an important creature, he can call on other rebels as well. (2)Children of Korlis - Great stalling. (2)Blightspeaker - Can tap to do damage and call other rebels (2)Big Game Hunter - So nice when an opponet spends all his mana go one big creature, and I just summon out this guy to send him on his way to the Graveyard. (2)Outrider en-kor - Potentially helpful (2)Aven Riftwatcher - Life gainer+Flying (2)Riftmarked Knight - Flanking and Protecting, with a suspend ability (2)Knight of the Holy Nimbus - Great beginning creature (2)Amrou Scout - Helps search for rebels (2)Dunerider Outlaw - Helpful against Green Creatures+Grows (2)Rathi Trapper - Tapping is good
Non-Rebel Creatures (1)Teysa Orzhov Scion (2)Orzhob Guildmage (1)Ghost Council Orzhova (2)Magus of the Disk (2)Pentarch Paladin (2)Liege of the Pit (2)Icatian Crier (2)Endrek Sahr, Master Breeder
Spells (2)Dread Return (2)Gaze of Justice (2)Griffin Guide (2)Divine Congregation (2)Return to Dust (1)Mortify
Lands (7)Plains (7)Swamps (3)Orzhov Basilica (1)Flagstones of Trokair (1)Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth (1)Gemstone Mine (1)Orzhova, The Church of Deals
My Combination in this deck is to put tokens on the field with Endrek Sahr, Master Breeder+Ication Crier - with Ication Crier I can discard Liege of the Pit and bring him back with Dread Return, as my power swing, while my rebels just cause havoc.
Also with Endrek will be bringing me black tokens, I can use those tokens to abuse Teysa, Orzhov's ability.
Any fun Rebel cards i'm missing? Looking for Legendary Rebels but I can't find them. Lol.
Thanks!

Vintage Community Discussion / Rules Q&A / Stufy Doll + Pariah's Shield + Volcano Hellion
|
on: April 09, 2007, 10:30:04 pm

Hey guys I have a question about a specific combination that iv'e been pondering.
Stuffy Doll As Stuffy Doll comes into play, choose a player. Stuffy Doll is indestructible. Whenever damage is dealt to Stuffy Doll, it deals that much damage to the chosen player. Tap: Stuffy Doll deals 1 damage to itself
Pariah's Shield All damage that would be dealt to you is dealt to equipped creature instead. Equip 3
Volcano Hellion Volcano Hellion has echo X, where X is your life total. When Volcano Hellion comes into play, it deals an amount of damage of your choice to you and target creature. The damage can’t be prevented.
Okay. I'm in game I have my Stuffy Doll and Pariah's Shield in play, Pariah's shield is attached to Stuffy Doll
Next Turn I play Volcano Hellion, chooseing the amount of damage to me 10, I choose to do the damage to Stuffy Doll, 10 Damages is dealt to my opponet because of the Pariah's Shield/Stuffy Doll combination, while the other 10 is redirected to Stuffy Doll thus doing 20 damages to my opponet.
Is this plausible? The part that concerns me is Volcano Hellion when it says "This damage can't be prevented" - Can it be bounced? And when it says can't be prevented does it mean ALL, including the damage i'm dealing to him with the initial trigger of dealing the damage to stuffy doll, redirecting it to him?
Thanks guys! -Josh

Hey guys.
Name is Josh, Live in California, U.S.
I am a college student who was introduced to the game about 6 months ago, though I am a VERY competitive gamer in all things considered 'Games' I have a very addictive sensation to those games I like, i've spent about $700 in cards now with 7 decks, i've had a lot of fun building them and will continue to.
I was over at the SCG forum but I find this forum considerably more active/organized.
Hope to contribute what I can, and always, learn!
