So is Flash safe to unrestrict now?

It's been my understanding that it's been safe to unrestrict for a long, long time

So is Flash safe to unrestrict now?

It's been safe forever.

Yes, I agree it has been safe for some time. But this card should be the final nail in any argument for its unrestriction. Hopefully a conversation about it will que the DCI to take action.

Top 8? What am I doing here?
Quarterfinals vs. Joe
So basically I get really lucky in game 1 of this match. My opponent gets an Oath, and after finding an orchard, he's got Emrakul, but I am holding a Duplicant in had, so I've got one answer after his first attack. I've got 3 Sphere of Resistance and a Trinisphere in play, so I can't cast him immediately. So he attacks me down to 5, and I sac all my resistors, a mox and the token. Untap, and I Duplicant the Emrakul. He then Oaths into Blightsteel Colossus, which gets a dragon's breath that he milled. He attacks, and I block with my 15/15. I draw dead, and pass. My opponent attacks, and I block with the Duplicant (now a 4/4) and I'm now at 7 Poison counters, and 5 life. My opponent shakes his head as he forgot to play his Black Lotus before combat, and casts it the attack. The Lotus would have allowed him to trample over for 10 poison. Since I have no creatures,  Joe allows me to Oath on my upkeep (forgoing giving me a creature with his orchard). I have one out, and manage to hit the one card left that would not only allow me to survive, but completely turn the game around. After 6 or so flips, my second Duplicant is revealed, getting rid of the Colossus. Since I saw a Time Vault, Yawgmoth's Will, and Jace, the Mind Sculpter get binned from the Oath triggers, he's left essentially without an out. In Come the Hubs again for Crucible + Karn.

Amusing side note: if the Blightsteel Colossus had been his non-infectious kin, I'd have lost.

Had it been DSC, you would have chump blocked with your 15/15. The Infect ability put him in a position to win by giving -1/-1 counters to your 15/15.

Psychosis Crawler 5
Artifact Creature - Horror
Psychosis Crawler's power and toughness are each equal to the number of cards in your hand.
Whenever you draw a card, each opponent loses 1 life.

These seems promising. Maybe in some type of Stax list with Bazaar, or in a new blue shop list with the new Ichor Wellspring combos people are thinking of http://www.themanadrain.com/index.php?topic=41799.0

I would think there are enough draw spells in vintage to make this card playable (but not that good to build a deck around it).
7  Eternal Formats / General Strategy Discussion / Re: MBS:Treasure Mage on: January 19, 2011, 04:02:44 pm
I think this can go into slaver, there are plenty of things to discard stuff in the format. This makes a great tutor for slaver and other Welder targets.

Guys guys guys. You're forgetting that he can fetch up Aladdin's Lamp.  How is your opponent going to win when you can dig X each turn?

The vintage format is going to be completely unintuitive and non interactive now. Hopefully the DCI will ban Lamp.
8  Eternal Formats / General Strategy Discussion / Re: Blightsteel Colossus on: January 18, 2011, 04:01:43 pm
Jebus.  One-hit kill tinker bot?  This will even see play in some shop builds.  The temptation of a one-hit kill is just too great.  This is 10 bux easy, and will stay there.  That's where Darksteel Colossus was until.... now.

SCG has it for $11.11

What do you think of Tunnel Ignus?

Ive tried tunnel ignus out, its even good for just fetchlands. Let alone Gushbond.
13  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: Flash is Back!! on: November 19, 2010, 07:40:50 pm
Just wondering, why not 3 hulk, 1 pact? I would want to maximize my chances of getting a natural hulk so I would dodge duress and spheres.

Yea, I've though of that. The pacts could probably go all together, i dont think they are that important. But in a build with Elvish Spirit Guide, they become more meaningful.
14  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: Flash is Back!! on: November 11, 2010, 11:25:00 pm
And to be able to play that fragile combo, the deck has to be filled with 5 useless cards :
1x Mogg Fanatic
1x Reveillark
1x Body Snatcher
1x Body Double
1x Carrion Feeder

And last funny thing, those 5 useless cards have to be in the library, in order to be able to use the combo...

I only need 4 out of the 5 to be in the library. The most important card (Carrion Feeder) is easily hard casted. While the others can be rescued from my hand with Body Snatcher.

I agree that you want more than one win condition. Luckily enough for him he already has 3 copies of Jace to act as an alternate win condition... That is separate from just hard casting a Hulk that is.

@urweak.
Did you add the 4th Gush? I saw that you mentioned adding fastbond. The gushbond engine is good.

Also is casting jace hard with limited artifact acceleration?

No I haven't tried more Gush. Yes it does feel difficult to cast Jace at times. I added Mox Ruby, but maybe I should add more. Also, Hulk beats has won me a few games.

This deck actually combos out rather well despite what some might think. The real problem I have is 12-Sphere.dec and Noble Fish. It is my understanding that Gush decks are particularly weak vs Sphere. With Fish, its the level of beats, plus cheap counters that hurt. If there was a way to remedy this problem I think the deck would be just fine.
15  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: Flash is Back!! on: November 10, 2010, 08:09:38 pm
If you wnat to play flash, i would start with 4x Cunning Wish.

I dont want to play a 3cmc tutor when I have better options in Demonic tutor, vampiric tutor, merchant scroll, mystical tutor.
16  Eternal Formats / Creative / Flash is Back!! on: November 10, 2010, 01:41:04 am
So I got the idea after seeing how crazy the draw can be in GAT and other newly emerging decks. With the brainstorm ability of Jace, the Mind Sculptor, you can tuck your creatures back into your library so you can Flash + Protean Hulk them back up.

The sideboard is kinda shakey. Its all basically anti-hate, with Leyline for Ichorid. Should I consider [card]Yawgmoth's Will[/card]? [card]Time Walk[/card]? any stuff that might be less obvious?

Some cards that I dont know about yet. At first I had Spell Pierce as Pact of Negation, I am considering something like Daze instead, or just going back to Pact. Regrowth is there to get Flash back if I lose it somehow. Should Yawgmoth's Will replace Regrowth? Also Mana Drain is good, but I feel when I really want it I am already to tight on mana to cast it.

Lands:
4x Misty Rainforest
3x Polluted Delta
3x Underground Sea
2x Tropical Island
2x Island
1x Volcanic Island

Creatures:
2x Protean Hulk
1x Mogg Fanatic
1x Reveillark
1x Body Snatcher
1x Body Double
1x Carrion Feeder

Spells:
1x Flash
2x Summoner's Pact
1x Ancestral Recall
1x Brainstorm
1x Mystical Tutor
1x Demonic Tutor
3x Thoughtseize
3x Gush
1x Vampiric Tutor
3x Mana Drain
4x Force of Will
1x Ponder
3x Preordain
1x Regrowth
1x Merchant Scroll
4x Spell Pierce

Artifacts:
1x Mox Jet
1x Mox Emerald
1x Mox Sapphire
1x Black Lotus

Walkers:
3x Jace, the Mind Sculptor

Sideboard:
4x Hurkyl's Recall
3x Maze of Ith
4x Leyline of the Void
3x Nature's Claim
1x Reverent Silence

After some play testing I added Fastbond, Mox Ruby, and Time Walk. Removing Regrowth and I think 2x Thoughtsieze.

Fastbond can produce some explosive turns to find Flash.

I have played a bunch of games with this deck. It seems that the Noble Fish match up is almost unwinable maindeck as is the Shop/Stax match up.

With Noble, they have so many small counters that hurt your exsplosive draws, land destruction that effects your mana base, and counters + other effects to hurt your tutors. Even a correctly used Swords to Plowshares can hurt your combo.

As for Shop/Stax match up, the thing that effects you the most, are the Sphere effects like Sphere or Resistance. It makes your little draw spells unplayable. Land destruction huts just like in the Fish match up, and the big creatures it can drop are a huge threat.

With this, I have gone with a transformational Oath sidebaord.

Board:
4x Leyline of the Void
4x Oath of Druids
1x Emrakul, the Aeons Torn
1x Forbidden Orchard
3x Energy Flux
2x Reverent Silence

I havent got a chance to really test the board out for the two trouble match ups. But it seems good in other situations. Usally people come in full bore with graveyard hate from their side. The oath plain gives you a huge advantage and eliminates any advantage they might have had out of the side.

I still wonder however if this will work with Noble Fish, they have a lot of things maindeck to deal with oath to begin with, like Qasali Pridemage.

With shops, the spheres might make Energy Flux unplayable. But the Oath idea still seems strong, its just being able to swing your big guy while they have Tangle Wire out.

Leyline of the Void is for dredge (this matchup is whoever can combo out first, and usally its you. With your tutors and draw I think its a good match up, with leyline in play its almost lights out for them), and the Reverent Silence are for other leylines, but might not really be the best choice.

Anyways, if anyone has suggestions let me hear them.

Missed out on this, wish I knew about it. I hope they have another one, I have plenty of casual decks to bring. If your looking for a similar meta, New Dimensions in Century 3 mall does vintage on Saturdays. It was sanctioned at one point, from what I understand now it is still sanctioned but allows 10 card proxy so I dont know how they swing that. Although they had a house rule of no sideboards the last time I was there. If your interested I would just call them and find out what the story is.

But it was a meta with sliver decks, MBC, Elvish Piper.dec and other casual type stuff.

I love Root Maze. I play it in my R/G Beats deck, but I only run 2x Fetchs. Do you have trouble with your fetchs + Maze out? It would seem that it hurts your deck just as much as you want it to effect your opponent. I would up the dual land count and drop some fetchs.

Hey, a good reason to run Channel is Dredge decks! LOL

Does dredge get 3+ artifacts into play regularly?

Its an interesting card. But for 2 you just ignore the effect till EOT. It would be FAR better if it was each search effect you had to pay 2 (which I am getting the feeling that some people are mistaking this for).

Some mono white build with this guy, Kataki, Suppression Field, The new white leyline, and a bunch of other white spells might make for a good deck. Karakas too maybe?

Seems like Dawn of the Dead, or a interpretation of it could play that. With both Bazaar of Baghdad and Riftstone Portal in there, this seems like a perfect fit.

25  Eternal Formats / Blue-Based Control / Re: Lightning Bolt versus Jace, TMS on: August 17, 2010, 01:06:18 am
I think one of the problems of Bolt vs. Jace is that if Bolt becomes a more mainstream option in decks then good players will just begin with Fatesealing either themselves or the opponent.  Then Bolt ends up being dead or you'll need to draw another to take down Jace.  Right now most people auto-brainstorm in control mirrors since it's generally the correct play but if you need to play around early damage on Jace then they will just like it works in T2.  Also running Bolts dilutes your deck with cards that are marginal in playing a true control mirror.

I think the real gem here is lightning bolts to fuel a big Warrens
26  Eternal Formats / Blue-Based Control / Re: Lightning Bolt versus Jace, TMS on: August 15, 2010, 11:31:28 pm
Inkwell is pretty good against big Jace, too.  But, since I'm packing four bolts, I don't think Inky does more than provide another oops-I-win condition.  From that standpoint, you could roll in Tinker, Inkwell, Vault, and Key like everyone else.  The trouble is that you'd probably end up cutting counterspells to make room for them, and the whole strength of Remora is that you can draw into counters when the enemy tries to do something.

I guess the effect of adding Inky would basically be to improve the Fish game.  So perhaps it's sideboard material.  Hard to argue with Vault-Key, but so many people will be expecting that win out of a blue control deck that the storm kill is perhaps a little more sneaky game 1.  Maybe?

Yea, Vault Key isnt really that important to this deck. But I think a tinker package might be more valuble to the deck then the blue flyers. I wouldnt cut counters.
27  Eternal Formats / Blue-Based Control / Re: Lightning Bolt versus Jace, TMS on: August 13, 2010, 10:32:40 pm
I like the idea, i can see bolt, spell, spell, spell into empty which is cool. Did you consider Tinker + Inkwell instead of the Vendilion Clique?

29  Eternal Formats / Null Rod Based Aggro / Re: Back after a year, mono Black on: August 03, 2010, 10:42:00 pm
Ive been wondering if the new Phylactery Lich in M11 is better then Negator. With the artifacts in your deck it might not be a long shoot to get it out.
30  Eternal Formats / Null Rod Based Aggro / Re: [Deck Primer]: Christmas Beatings on: August 03, 2010, 10:40:03 pm
I am not worried so much about the changes in the meta over the years since i have abandoned this deck. But rather a Tinkered up Sphinx of the Steel Wind is enough to send this deck packing. Is there anything that can be done to stop this? Or done once it hits play?
