4  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Vintage in So Cal? on: March 25, 2007, 05:22:57 am
Would you be interested in getting together to test? One testing opponent is infinitely better than zero!  (FYI its looking like I'll most likely be living in west LA.)

What about you KiLO: Would you want to play/test? If vintage tournaments were held would you attend?
West L.A.? Or do you mean West L.A. county? Once again, it's pretty spread out. That being said, I would like to playtest if it would be possible to find a location and time that works for all the parties involved.

If you do move to SoCal, drop a PM; just in case this thread gets buried or I miss posts.

I think KiL0's assesment is right, we seem to be too spread out here. I'm actually right next door to KiL0 in Glendale and I think I know who he is even though I have not met him (Ken?).
True, we are 'next door.' However, I think we met very briefly at Legacy; TracerBullet (Pat) was there too.
5  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Vintage in So Cal? on: March 18, 2007, 07:30:23 am
I used to live in NorCal and played t1. I moved to SoCal (Pasadena); I don't play t1 anymore.

There are t1 players in SoCal; just seems like they're spread out though...

... the 4 star wars edicts he did.

Can someone post those Star Wars Edicts? I lost mine when HD crashed.

Pics of any cool alterations done by the artists would be appreciated. If someone tells me how/where to post pics I can share the ones I've had done by artists too.

Thx.

I wrote to eBay, too.

Btw, if you are a TO, how would you respond to someone playing one of these cards in your tournament?

I am interested in hearing a T.O.'s response for a nonproxie/sanctioned event.
8  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Altering Cards, Need Pen Suggestions. on: March 12, 2006, 07:54:39 pm
When I want my alteration art to be opaque, I use DecoColor Paint Markers. Then details are filled in with paintbrush and Sharpies. Virtual was _supposed_ to post the Death Star alteration to Crucible... we'll see if he gets around to it.

So I accepted my first assignment as a substitute teacher. For the next four days I'll be teaching an elementary school class for half the day. And I am FREAKING OUT about it.

I know some of you are teachers, or have teaching experience: do you have any pointers? Anything to watch for? I am kind of jumping into the deep end of the pool here. Surprised
Matt

What are you specifically worried about? e.g. Behaviors, lessons, students, etc.

I teach elementary level K/1; a move up from my three years at preschool teaching. I'll try to give simple tips to use. PM me, I'll log on later to check.

Dark Ritual and Tsphere have to go if the format is to be playable again.

I just don't see this.  Are Dark Ritual and Tsphere really putting up so many numbers that Top8s everywhere are flooded with them?  I look at the T8 stats and I just don't see the damning evidence, it's nothing like what Gush did or isn't nearly clear cut mana acceleration/tutor like LED or Burning Wish.
Agreed, thank you. I just don't see the consistant numbers.

Perhaps when the "new-ness" presentation of [insert deck here] occured, you would have multiple strong showings. But doesn't that happen for all "new" strong decks? Remember when Tog was dominant, then came Fish's dominancy, etc. We just observed Oath's run. There was no real need for restriction, just time for adjustment.

Bottom line: I do not see the need for restricting Dark Ritual or 3Sphere.

Quote from: dicemanx
Whether such decks dominate is not the point - the point is that they can randomly crush you and you'll have little to say about it if you don't have the right cards in your opening seven.
Randomly restrict for randomly crushing you? Not sure if this point is strong enough to warrent restriction.

Couldn't that be said of just about any competitive deck, really?

Whoa!

Have you seen the "Extreme Alterations!" posters by Terese Nielsen? She features 32 altered art Force of Wills. I won't have to post my altered FoWs since all four are on the posters...

Thelegendofmagic is the oldest and most experienced player on TMD, he can easily duel any of the Mods or Admins and completely demolish them, so before you talk crap about him put your money where your mouth is and play him and lose to him.

Where's all this coming from? No one on this thread said anything bad about Brian...

Hmm just for kicks, I'm willing to bet it's an Eudemonia IP.  Smile

... this week at C&J's the quality of players and decks were at a all time high.

Not even close. Last summer, C&J had weekly tournies with roughly 50 people and three times the fully powered players.

However, congrats on another strong finish. Third week in a row finishing second, right?

Congrats to the Fish player.

I, on the other hand, was complete crap.

As of tonight, I should be able to make the tourney.

@Jeff
Are any of the T2 regulars going to join? More, the merrier.
20  Eternal Formats / Creative / Tournament Report: SlapJack wins 1st place at C&J's T1! on: July 17, 2004, 12:11:54 am
Congrats, LotusHead!

Thanks for coming down and playing at C&J. New players are always welcomed, especially powered players! Even with the wide variety of decks in attendance, (at least, off the top of my head) seven fully powered players were absent from the tourney. Furthermore, two fully powered players dropped after round one to play Hold 'Em. Just a weird night... hopefully next time, more powered players will be in attendance which makes the tourney more exciting and rich in experience.

It's great to see new decks and ideas! Again, congrats on the victory!

Skittles?

You offered and wanted to draw before the match started, remember? At least this way, you had to earn your draw.

Until next week's tourney, the balance of the universe is still safe!

5454 Central Ave. Suite C
Newark, CA  94560

Participants: 15

Small turnout; disappointing. I noted four Fish decks piloted, Legend. Sorry, no TnT decklist. I took apart the deck after the tourney to due other playtesting...

Round 1: Ernest (RAVfinity)

First turn, Trinisphere. Followed by waste effects...

Games: 2-0-0, Matches: 1-0-0

Round 2: Jon (Sneak Attack)

Quote from: TrixR4Kidz
It was a nice report, but the metagame seemed rather scrubby if I do say so...

Games: 4-0-0, Matches: 2-0-0

Round 3: Christiaan, TMD Zhalfirin (U/r Fish)

Trinisphere slows his tempo. He can't answer all my threats with "free" counters anymore...

Games: 6-0-0, Matches: 3-0-0

Round 4: Brian, TMD TheLegendOfMagic (GAT)

We should have had more than enough time to finish... We started the final round late five minutes because you were playing a side game for fun. In game 2, you took five minutes with Demonic Tutor; "remembering" that the card you wanted was in your hand the whole time. Proceed to take a twenty minute Yag Will...

Game 3: Time is called so we drew.

Read: I play first and resolve Goblin Welder, Juggernaut, and Trinisphere. Brian thinking, "Thank God, time was called."

Games: 7-1-1, Matches: 3-0-1

...seems like an Odd build to win first place... No offense or anything, but congrats on the win.

Final Standings:
1. KiLO
2. TheLegendOfMagic
