1  Archives / Tournament Announcement Forum / Re: Xtreme Games Monthly Vintage 4-18-10 on: April 15, 2010, 05:37:42 pm
Found out that I have off work on sunday, so I should be able to make this one. Anyone have a cool decks for me to play? I have no idea what to play in vintage these days.
2  Archives / Tournament Announcement Forum / Re: July 18-19: ICBM Xtreme Open--FULL POWER NINE BOTH DAYS--Chicago, IL on: July 08, 2009, 10:54:52 pm
I'm just throwing this out there, $20.00 to whom ever decides to take soly's challenge and can make him cry for mercy. Ben could just make top 8 enter a steel cage and duke it out for the power, Welcome to Thunderdome bitch!

Either way, this event is going to be insane.
3  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: New to Vintage--UB Suicide Disruption on: June 26, 2009, 05:52:22 pm
I think that going the tempo plan might be the best option for the deck, sorta reminds me of deeznoughts from a few months ago. Adding a maindeck darkblast might be a worth while tutor target to kill off opposing bobs and gorilla shamans. If you don't plan on running null rods, I'd suggest adding voltaic key and time vault for a fast "oops" win option.
The white splash seems bad, a green splash for goyfs and possibly trygon predators would be better.
4  Archives / Tournament Announcement Forum / Re: 06/14/09 - Vintage for Mox Jet - Milwaukee Magic Cards and Games on: June 14, 2009, 10:05:10 pm
I thought he was playing lorescale cotal control with vault key because every deck can play it. And to be fair, I did take him down in the swiss so I figured I could take him down for the mox.

And don't forget about those statistical turn one tinkers  Wink
I plan on attending this one, hopefully playing some better than ichorid this time.
6  Eternal Formats / Eternal Article Discussion / Re: [Premium Article] So Many Insane Plays -- Reviving Vintage on: April 16, 2009, 01:54:57 am
I would just like to add that team icbm, has done an amazing job keeping the vintage community going here in Wisconsin. Not only has their team tried to get people into vintage but has also provided the means to play a competitive deck (25 proxies) at each of their events. I would probably not even bother with the format if these guys hadn't stepped in and really pushed this format forward. I always look forward to slinging cards against the members of this team or putting money on the line at one of their events. I'd also like to give a big shout out to Xtreme-games, a decent sized venue in Chicago that has held many events within the past 6 months using the 25 proxy policy. Not many shop owners i know would go out of their way to make sure that a Wisconsin player and his passengers, whose car decided to die after one of their events, got home safe before calling it a day at around 2 am. Its stuff like this that makes me play in these vintage events because at the end of the day its not that i won a mox or a lotus but that i got to meet some cool people and really enjoy a day of playing with some of the most broken cards ever created.
7  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: BUGNaught, needs some tweaks on: April 09, 2009, 04:12:47 pm
I never really liked trinket mage all that much when i was playing naughts, have you tried playing trygon predator at all?
I would also try adding a copy of tinker, inkwell, time vault and voltaic key. I'm only suggesting this to give the deck the ability to hit some level of broken other than playing a dude and passing.
8  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: [Budget] Suicide Black 2k9 on: March 06, 2009, 12:17:52 am
Heres the new list i have together:

Maindeck (60):
3 seal of primordium
1 Demonic consultation
1 Black Lotus
1 Mox Emerald
1 Mox Jet
4 Null Rod
4 Dark Confidant
4 Dark Ritual
3 Duress
3 Thoughtsieze
3 Extirpate
4 Phyrexian Negator
3 Sinkhole
3 Tombstalker
4 Tarmogoyf

Lands (18):
3 Bayou
2 Bloodstained Mire
4 Polluted Delta
1 Strip Mine
4 Swamp
4 Wasteland

Sideboard (15):
1 Tombstalker
3 Krosan Grip
3 Snuff out
2 Oxidize
3 Umezawa's Jitte
3 Yixlid Jailer
Basic sui-shell with seals, tarmo and extirpate in the main. The board is kinda weird looking, when playing against drain type decks I found that sower of temptation was a pain to deal with, so games 2-3 i bring in the extra tombstalker and the snuff outs and take out the 4 bobs. This is also my plan against more aggro type decks, kinda turning it into a eva green legacy deck with power.
The decklist is untested at the moment, just something I have thrown together.

I'm wondering why damien's SS deck is running two dsc in the board but no tinker to be seen. Is it to help out the painter match as a sorta blessing replacement or is there something i'm not seeing?

@ Dr.KnowMaD: my bad, i meant to say H.Recall.
11  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: [Deck Discussion ] Esperzoa (Fish Build / Not Workshop) on: February 13, 2009, 01:35:50 am
@ mith: If rebuild is giving you troubles, i would try adding some number of spell snares in the deck. On the plus side, it does come in handy when fighting against oath and drains too:-)
12  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: Progenitus Oath on: February 10, 2009, 08:31:11 pm
If you have those cards backing you up then why wait the extra turn?
13  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: ICBM Open #8 Results on: February 09, 2009, 09:43:25 pm
yeah James was totally pissed that he went to time in like 3 rounds that day and didn't top 8 because of it.
14  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: ICBM Open #8 Results on: February 09, 2009, 02:10:05 pm
I think Kempfer was playing swans in his board as a way to beat oath of druids.
15  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: Mana Drain Meets Mana Denial.. on: February 09, 2009, 01:53:10 pm
Trygon doesn't seem all that bad though, considering his deck plays stifles, chalices and can also bring in seals/grips.
Is it optimal? Probably not, since its usually easier for them to get oath online faster than you can get trygon out and ready to attack.
As for comments about dealing with oaths creatures, lets be honest, once oath gets its dudes out the match is usually done. Playing cards like curfew might seem worthwhile but they just aren't that good. The best way to combat oath is to stop them from triggering and or resolving oath, sometimes oath gets that busted hand of mox, orchard, and oath. Crap happens, there is a reason why people play it.
Just test out different hate cards and find which one helps the most, i'd try seals and or grips, since they are harder for oath to deal with than trygons.
Good luck and keep on winning.
Dont let soly get ya down, I'm sure that he'd lose to a creature deck while playing oath and just complain how the creature deck got lucky and how he didn't have his billion outs Rolling Eyes
16  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: The Pillars - A Beating and a Half on: February 06, 2009, 12:02:35 pm
If your just building a deck to try and abuse alot of broken cards you should probably add academy, time vault and voltaic key. It probably doesn't matter if you add them or not, but why not just play every bomb you can in this deck? Wink
17  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: [Deck Discussion ] Esperzoa (Fish Build / Not Workshop) on: February 05, 2009, 07:24:38 pm
Sculptor might be good in a fish style build running main deck thinks like pithing needles, sensei's top to smooth your draw and relic of progenitus to hose y.wills and ichorid. The bad thing being that you'd probably miss playing null rod, which is really good right now.
18  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: Tezz goes noughty on: February 05, 2009, 07:09:54 pm
Hi there MaKu,
I saw your list for this deck on deckcheck the other day and thought it was pretty cool for a tezz variant. I did notice a lack of mana drains which are usually in tezz style decks, could you give some info on why you decided not to run them?
Congrats on the finish!

@ mistervader: Thats a very constructive comment. Care to give any reasons why?
21  Eternal Formats / Null Rod Based Aggro / Re: The Mountains Win Again! on: January 30, 2009, 12:26:38 am
@xwt: I'd probably up the gargadon count to 4 just because he can totally wreak house against oath in game one, which is why i'm guessing he's in there. Unicorn would probably be good out of the board since oath decks tend to bring in the shroud angels for game 2-3 against aggro type decks, making swords worse. Lots of tez decks seem to be boarding in a oath board too so he also helps out there.
Good luck with the deck and figure is the sauce, he's such a bomb against drain decks if you get him out turn one.
22  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: Oracle Updates: You can now Stifle Gilded Drake on: January 30, 2009, 12:18:45 am
I'm pretty sure that people thought the same thing when platinum angel came out years ago.
Like, imagine if you could just punch your opponent in the face, judge comes over and says something like sorry bro that dude has plats out Very Happy
23  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: [card discussion] Lat-Nam's Legacy on: January 27, 2009, 10:25:33 pm
Isn't brainstorm just a better card around 90% of the time?
Sure if you have a big artifact in your hand than lat-nam's might be better, however, if your playing thirst of knowledge don't you get the same effect?
24  Archives / Tournament Announcement Forum / Re: ICBM Open #8--Sunday, February 1 in Cedarburg, WI for a Mox Sapphire on: January 14, 2009, 10:13:10 pm
Which is why the event should be vintage, that way someone can beat soly and he'll go and complain about how his deck failed him.
I will totally be making the trip for this event, Ben's tournaments are usually kick ass and always have a high level of competition.

2 Trygon Predator (Cuz this guy is good in oath?)
Duh, that guy is straight up busted in oath Wink
Remember saying this?

You're gunna get crushed... as always.
Looks like you were right, you should talk to yourself more often.

And for all the haters out there, King James Oath is still the biggest badass of all the current oath decks.

28  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: Niles, IL Pastimes Mox Pearl 10/18 Results and mini-report on: October 19, 2008, 12:41:43 pm
@ben: I'm just curious about those reanimates in your sideboard. Are they there just to return goyfs and bobs against aggro or is there more than meets the eye?
Also love the list, did E.E in the main help out against aggro, since that seemed to be your worst matchup?
29  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: ICBM Open #5 Results on: July 17, 2008, 08:00:15 pm
Yet another great event thanks to ICBM.
Getting a turn two kill against one of the ichorid decks was probably the most amazing seven cards deez noughts has ever given me. Lotus, nought, nought, mask, ruby, waste, demonic, Seems like the perfect set up to crushinate.
My games against Seroogy were great as well, i plan on evening the score against you next time  Smile
Thron of ameythest was pretty sweet tech that james king suggested and they came in almost every game. I played against 4 combo decks in the swiss and almost stole game 3 against seroogy with one on the table.
The list was solid all day, thanks to grant champion for the list and playtesting the week before,  the only deck that seemed difficult was slaver, playing against mike showed that i might have to rethink my sb strat against slaver. After the event i think phyrexian negator might be some good  Wink

Trogdon told me that I should have extirpated his red elemental or pyroblasts during our third game. I was holding just a fow and the pate in hand when chris thoughsiezed me and i didn't think to use the pate right away...definatly one of those slap on the head moments. I will keep that advice in mind if painter starts showing up as a good meta call Wink
