This was a pretty terrible day for me performance wise. All I will say is that I saw more awkward Mana Crypt rolls/game decisions because of those rolls than I have ever seen before. However, it was fun and refreshing to play some Vintage and eat some cake!

Congrats to the top 8 and specifically Jake. It is nice to see when someone has spent most of his vintage career battling dredge to success switch over to other decks and continue to do well.

Also, Magus of the Moon is a beating...

Just wanted to point out that my (Justin Kohler's) sideboard only had one Triskelion and was really fifteen cards.  Also, thanks to Nick Coss for hosting a great event!

Top 4 Pairings and Results:

Will Magrann vs. John Jones – Magrann wins
Jake Gans vs. Chris Materewicz – Gans wins

Finals:

Will Magrann vs. John Jones – Magrann wins

Congratulations to Will Magrann, John Jones, and all of our top 8 competitors!

So you are telling me John Jones is such a baller that after losing in top 4 to Will he murdered Jake Gans and demanded a rematch???
Well I will be hornswoggled!  I remember the finals being a little less John Jones and a little more Jake Gans with Jake taking infinite from his own BSC.

Thanks for letting me know about the missing cards.  That's the last time I let someone "volunteer" to type up Top 8 decklists!  I've been hoodwinked!  Also, thanks again to everyone who came and enjoyed a great day of Vintage.

Dear cardboard-slinging god in heaven, you have no idea.

Despite hitting full tilt somewhere around R3/4, looking back I do appreciate this tournament wholeheartedly. The Blue Bell events are always awesome, and sometimes it's good to be reminded that skill really is the determining factor of Vintage. BBGD 13 really brought that home for me, as I managed to punt my way out of any conceivable victories all day after starting the day off on a solid 1-0/2-0.

Aside props to Ed Carey, who doesn't really know me from Adam and yet has been very friendly and an all-around great guy at every one of these things. Sorry for the OMW%, bud. I'll do better next time. All of my opponents were also fantastic (while I wish I could say the same for myself), and I look forward to the next tournament. These events are probably some of (if not) the best magic tournaments I've ever been to, from TO to playerbase. Give yourselves a pat on the back, guys. Really.

OT: The bizarre spike in fish/creature decks caught a lot of us off guard this time around, I think. While I've been witness to their brutal efficiency vs. Tezzeret firsthand, I have to wonder if the coverage on SCG leading up to the tournament had anything to do with it. Thoughts?

Congratulations to the top 8, as well - especially the workshop decks, given that Blue Bell seems brimming with "bad" match-ups and sideboarded hatred for them.

Still so strange to see a deck win a tournament with mana vault but no black lotus. Tough to argue with results though.

Not to dig up and then subsequently beat the dead horse but Chalice of the Void predominantly being set on 0, the possibility of Mana Vault being reusable or at least staying in play for Smokestack outweigh the possibility of producing 1 more net mana in Espresso Stax.

That's what I thought. But hey, if it wins I won't ask questions.

Not yet.  I'm stuck waiting for the tournament files to be emailed to me.  Because my laptop was MIA for a few days in my luggage coming back from Vegas, I had to run the tournament off the store's computer.  I'll hopefully be able to remedy that today.
