Oh man, what about "Clash of the Titans?" That movie is deck.
Clash, like Conan and Heavy Metal, is one of those movies that I have no choice but to watch if it's on cable. And if it's on cable at midnight, all the better. Looking back, the effects are terrible, but still endearing. It's one of the best "bad movies" ever made.

No Molly Ringwold fans here? Pretty in Pink was mad awesome. John Cryer is my BOI! Breakfast club wasn't too shabby either.

Oh, and how could I forget Jackie Chan's Police Story? That movie was hot.

I also can't believe I forgot Big Trouble in Little China.

Does anyone else like musicals? Cause Little Shop of Horrors was amazing!

"You can be my wingman any time": Top Gun (winner on entertainment)

"Ain't war hell?": Full Metal Jacket (winner on quality)

"What are you prepared to do?": The Untouchables (runner up on quality, heavily scoring in the drama department. Malone's death is one of the saddest deaths in movie history.)

"We have to stop the MCP": Tron (absolute winner on special effects, and bonus points for preceding The Matrix by 20 years)

Honestly, how could you guys forget Tron? Such a great movie! So far ahead of its time that the effects have never been used in a major movie ever since, because technology advanced too fast. Tron is the only movie I have ever seen with those extreme Neon light effects to make thinks look like from the future.

Also, I have two honorable mentions, movies I thought that were made in the 80's. Unfortunately, both are from the 70's, but I only got to see them in the 80's... because I wasn't born yet in the 70's, durr. "Se ying diu sau", better known as "Snake in the Eagle's Shadow" (1978) was and still is just great, and John Carpenter's "Dark Star" is pure gold and a cult object to many (1974).

God, 80's movies... good times!

I remember watching it in the theaters when I was a little kid and thinking it was the best thing ever. The next time I saw it was last year...

And I'm astounded to say, that it still amazing. It seems like Tron wouldn't be able to withstand the test of time, but I think it has. And the video game is still cool as hell if you can find it (particularly the light bikes and the tanks sub-games).

Anyone ever see The Dark Crystal? I'd put that on my list of Top 80s' movies.

Molly Ringwold and that whole crowd just bug. Though I did see 16 Candles in the theaters...

I'll have to put up another vote for Spaceballs, although I'd gladly rent almost any movie off these lists than many of the movies that get released nowadays.  Think "Bringing Down the House."

If that is the case then Revenge of the Nerds has got to be on that list.

Definately Ghostbusters, followed by Revenge of the Nerds.

For some reason, I never really think of the Star Wars films as 80's movies.  Those and Indiana Jones are ridiculously awesome, too.

TESB for "movie from the 80s"; Ferris Bueller and Tron for "80s movie".

Also, Top Gun may be a good contender, but the seminal 80s action movie was clearly Alien/Aliens.

If you Highlander, it has to be on a list of favorite movies by itself.  You know, because "there can be only one."

A lot of good movies have been listed in this thread, but while the Highlander concept was pretty cool, and the soundtrack to the first one kicked ass (one of the best music purchases I've ever made), I thought it worked much better as a series than as a movie.

I know this is a painfull film for Americans, but platoon should be way up there with the best.

Also terminator and predator are Arnold's best works i think with running man right behind that.

I also really like the breakfast club.

I also really like the Clint Eastwood westerns, Pale rider is the best of the eighties of these films.

Off course Raiders of the lost arc and return of the Jedi have to be in there as well.

I wanted to make a top 5 but I couldn't stop! So many good memories....anyway, here goes.

#1 the Back to the Future trilogy (or the first two parts really, since they're the only ones that came out in the eighties)
#2 Aliens
#3 the Indiana Jones Trilogy.
#4 Top Gun. Yeah, I'm an plane geek. Sue me.
#5 Highlander. Yup. Sword geek. That's me.
#6 Terminator. Uh, yeah. Killer robots from the future. Pwnt.
#7 Willow. Best.fantasy.film.till.LOTR.c ame.out
#8 Labyrinth. Second.best.fantasy.film.till .LOTR.came.out
#9 Predator. I thought this was a seriously good film. Best part Arnie ever played till he got elected.
#10 Flight of the Navigator. Childhood nostalgia, that one.
#11 Full Metal Jacket. Second only to Apocalypse Now in the war movies caterogy (but AN was a seventies flick).
#12 Das Boot. It actually has you feeling dorry for Axis forces. Best submarine movie (reallt a TV series cut into a movie) ever made.
#13 Empire Strikes Back / Return of the Jedi. Can't leave these bad boys out.
#14 Blade Runner. Legendary, though-provoking SF.
#15 The Shining. If you think about horror, you think about Johnny. Brilliant, in spite of King's reservations.
#15 Scarface. Best mob flick ever, on par with The Godfather.
#16 De Aanslag. Brilliant (and possibly the only good) Dutch eighties movie. Obviously, it's about the war.
#17 Akira. Legerady flick that made Anime mainstream.
#18 Ghostbusters. Nuff said.
#19 Chariots of Fire. Moving, and brilliant (BRILLIANT!) score by Vangelis.
#20 A Fish Called Wanda. British humor ftw.
#21 Gremlins. I still want one of my own.
#22 Henry V. Best Shakespeare adaption to date?
#23 Neverending Story. More schildhood nostalgia here.
#24 Blood Simple. The Coen brothers were awesome 22 years ago, too.
#25 The Night Train To Kathmandu. I was 11 years old and fell forever in love with Milla Jovovich.

Honorable mentions (not really 'great films' but certainly memorable 80's flicks) go to:

- the Porky series
- Surf Nazis Must Die
- Toxic Avenger
- Warlock
- Young Guns
- Who Framed Roger Rabbit?
- F/X
- Transformers: The Movie
- Weird Science

Quote
Goonies

Fuck yeah! Scariest film I ever saw. First time I went to the movies, too. I was 8 years old and after seeing that dead body in the closet, no other film ever scared me again. I need to work that in somewhere, but w/e Razz

I can't stand Labyrinth. Also, you managed to forget SW episides V and VI, which is obviously a mistake.

Sci-Fi had a good run. There is still some good Sci-Fi, but it seems like everything since 1995 has been like, a remake, a sequel, or a bastardization of a good book. Where are the original stories?
