So, initial estimates indicate there are something around 180 people in attendance.  Lots of people have byes, so after round 1 not much has happened, but here's what's going on:

Kowal, who lost to some silly brokenness, is on Team Drunken Ninja along with Angelo and DAVE FEINSTEIN.
Eastman lost.
Brassy is in game 3, but doesn't look good.

Travis LaPlante will probably do well in the team competition, as he's apparantly on 6 or 7 of them.

More to follow later.

184 people total.

Archetype breakdown is as follows:

Stax 25
Fish 20
Oath 17
Gifts 13
Tendrils 10
FCG 10 (includes non-foodchain lists)
CS 9
Dragon 5

and

Other 60

The tournament is really defined by all those "other" lists, which include older archetypes like sui, 4cc, sligh/burn, and newer stuff like threshold, flamevault combo, and just random piles. Lots of stax for NE, though.

To come: people doing well (once more than two rounds are over), and a breakdown of how many people paid to go above 10 proxies.

Even more surprising, more Gifts and Oath thn CS. Has slaver fallen out of style in NE?

Is it surprising that Gifts is becoming more popular?

I am looking forward to the Stax games in the t8.

I'd like to know how many people are playing The Mountain Wins Again, which can be identified by its signature Genju of the Spires and Plateau.

As far as I know, there were supposed to be at least 4 people playing it. Not sure if that number is accurate since I wasn't able to attend.

Just talked to Outlaw and he dropped me this info:

Brassman is 4-0
Roland Chang is 4-0
Crossman Wilkins is 3-1
Outlaw is 2-2 and needs to win out to make Top 16

Not much info, but Outlaw tells me he's been playing against pretty much nothing but bad decks all day.  I'll check in with him again later.

Justin got pwned by Meandecks newest tech.  Paul Mastriano (creator of Type four) is playing Kevin Cron's latest tech.  Go Roland!  Take home that waterbury!

Those results are not 100% accurate.

Here are some of the recognizable names who are at least 3-1:
Nate Pease (4-0)
Travis Laplante (4-0)
Brian Demars (3-0-1)
Paul Nicolo (3-0-1)
Roland Chang (3-1)
Mike Jacob (3-1)
Crossman Wilkins (3-1)
David Lawrence (3-1)
Stephen Houdlette (3-1)
Brassman (3-1)

those are in tiebreaker order.

more to come as rounds progress!

Wow.  My predictions might come true.  I am awesome.

Would it be possible for us to know out of those 25 stax decks how many are ubastax?

Thank you for these ongoing results, I love them.

You guys rock.

After Round 6, from Kowal.

Zheng scrubbed out, Brassy's out, DA is out.
LaPlante is X-1
Kowal, Chang, Hatcher, and Outlaw are X-2.
Supposedly Josh Franklin is in decent shape.

These numbers add up to 169 not 184, so that's 15 decklists not accounted for. This is worse than the time I voted for Al Gore in Florida, I demand a recount.

The decklists were sorted by last name, and one of the letter's file was out for a deckcheck. It should be 15 random decks then that aren't in that list, so statistically the numbers originally listed are still relevant.

Here is an update including round 6. I'm copying this directly from Ray's standings sheet.

18 points:
Seth Levy
Michael Heherington
Douglas Menger

16 points:
Caleb Rozwic

15 points:
Bob Mahannah
Terence O'Beirne
Jeff Carpenter
Corey Mann
Vincent Forino
Steven Capsouras
Kent Kolbig
Travis Laplante
Brendan Ward
Steven Bean
Josh Meches
Gary Steffens

13 points:
Brian Demars
Nate Pease
David Henry
Jon Smithers
Louis Gentile
Kevin Folinus
Rob Costanza
Stephen Houdlette
John Longo

A few of the BAJILLION 12 point people will be in contention, dependent on future performance and tiebreakers.

The meta is as random as Waterbury has ever been. There is ALL sorts of stuff here as well as at the top tables.

Last I heard was that Nate Pease (Jigglypuff) was 6-1 and Crossman Wilkins was 5-1-1, with those two being the last two GGs members in contention.  Hopefully this info is more accurate than the last I got. Neutral  If I hear anything else I'll be sure to post it.

Just got a call from Kowal.

Kowal is 6-2, looking to get in at maybe 15th or 16th.
Crossman is out, Tyler is out, Chang is out.
Demars, Hatcher, and Laplante are probably in.

Few name players in the top, they've mostly been scrubbing out.

I'm sorry for this question, I really should know it, but:

Is there a top 16?  If so or if not, how many people does it take to get a Top 16?

I would be sad if I didn't get into the single elim in a 180 man tournament if I only missed it by a few tiebreakers, like I got 9th or 13th.

Yes, they cut to Top 16.  As far as I know, Ray did this simply because with a big field he found it fairer to cut to 16 rather than the normal eight.  I don't think there is a cut-off for making a tournament have a Top 16 rather than a Top 8 because, if memory serves, all sanctioned tournaments go to top 8, regardless of how many people attend.

More news.

Kowal did not make it in.  There were apparantly a "shitton" of X-2's.
Kowal is also reasonably certain that Demars did not make it in.
Nate Pease and Steve Houdlette (Grand Inquisitor) are in.

This will probably be my last update, Kowal is going home.
