Writing uninteresting or posting boring T8's from the Barcelona metagame.

Generally posts from Europe receive less feedback and interest from the TMD people, maybe except for Dutch stuff, since there are so many dutchies on the board that know eachother from these tourneys.

But whenever I see the comments on tourney reports or T8 of myself and of e.g. Maxxmatt, it kinda hurts. I mean, writing down stuff like that costs time and you would like to see it appreciated.

So my first attempt in 2006 for a T8 and a tourney report/deck idea has collected a grand total of 0 responses. Whatever the reason is, probably a combination of lack of interest in the Barcelona metagame and lack of content, but in any case I decided: fuck it, I´m not doing this anymore.

Sorry for wasting your time. And mine.

Gabethebabe I don't think the deck idea got any response becauses Koen's thread already existed and most people intrested in the deck posted their thoughts there. Plus a similar idea without Dark Confidant was posted the following day by jCoKn called Togless Tog, and one that has been on the board for a while called Where T1T and Gifts Collide- Intuitive Gifts. In this instants I think your were just the victim of too many threads about the same deck (Obviusly the decks are slightly different, but it is basically the same concept). In otherwords, there were way too many threads on the board about decks winning with Mana Drain and ToA. Some use the Intution-Ak engine, some use Gifts Ungiven, some use Dark Confidant, and a few us a combination of those three draw engine. Either way it is pretty much the  same deck with 5 or 6 cards that different. Unfortunatly, your thread was the only one no one responded to, I am not sure why that is. For what it is worth, I read the report and like your deck ideas, I just didn't have much in the way of input.

Just because people don't comment on it doesn't mean we don't appreciate it, it might just mean we don't have any comments on it...I routinely peruse misc top 8s looking for ideas I hadn't seen before...

what exactly are you looking for?

also, many people from the US might not comment since a non-proxy environment is quite different from what they have here....

I have seriously missed that topic.
I can't say that I would have responded If I saw if before, but it's pretty likely.
Personally I appreciate reports a lot, especially when it's based on new deck ideas.
(For example, reading this report makes me think about combining Confidant and Merchant, which I never really considered before)

I think more people appreciate what you write than you think,
and I would be dissapointed if you stopped posting these reports/results.

It's all up to you though

Gaby you KNOW I'm interested! I'm like the only American who pays to the EU Vintage scene. At least do it for me; )

That is so easy to discover that it suggests conspicuousness or little need for perspicacity in the observer. I use your infor in my SCG reports too.

At last check, that thread got 234 views, which is a hell of a lot. People are definitely reading it and appreciating it; they're probably just not vocal enough about the good job that you're doing.

Piping up from a lot of work... here's the deal: threads in the tournament report forums don't generate as much discussion, although they get read a lot. People look there for T8 results, and metagame developments, but it's nothing really to post on unless the results are in any way really weird.

As for the Dark Confidant Gifts thread, here's a secret: Usually, when such a thread receives no replies, it is a very clear indicator that the various teams on these boards are working on something similar. So they don't like to comment. A couple of the CAB guys are working on Confidant Gifts, and the results are promising but I guess you'll notice once those people actually make it to a tournament (and finally get their playsets of Confidants together...)

So don't worry, your work is being read and appreciated. It just doesn't show as much.

No, we're all working on everything.  You pretty much have to, right?

Typing up Top8 lists is a voluntary task with no reward.  You're pretty much going to have to accept it.  You can't expect to get many replies either.  It's too hard to asses the board situation properly from a tournament report to argue the correct play.  Team members are too tight-lipped (and sometimes lazy) to talk about a decklist and/or strategy.

I read the reports, despite the fact that they are sanctioned.  Sanctioned Vintage is an entirely different monster, but the cream always rises to the top.

Gabe, you have to know that right now you have had 507 reads. That alone should tell you enough. However, as this was not in the tournament section i pretty much missed it as a tournament report. And as for Confidant threads, there indeed are a few on these boards.

Do not stop here as many people read a lot and implement ideas in decks themselves. You will just not always see it in responses.

As for one thing i have to agree with you. I do not know why but i have a distinct impression Americans tend to read american articles or reports more and seem to take  a bigger interest in thsoe articles. I have no idea if that is because the Europe metagame is so different or a simple superiority feeling. Perhaps because they feel we are following them in metagame, or perhaps they just do not get what happens in Europe. They tend to response to well known names however. So just keep up the work and people eventually will notice and respond.

Just be sure that no response but a lot of people reading it means a lot of people actually are considering your ideas but at this time have no coherent thoughts about them.

In the past, I thought a lot about the "possible" lack of interest on Eurpean Reports of all the TMD's members, directly connecting it to the lack of answers on my posts.

On the other hand, after a bit of thinking, I realized that it isn't the best way to approach the issue.

Think about what Waterbury or GeCon represent for all american people.
Here on TMD, there are plenty of threads of more than one page, with people talking about "nothing", but surely entertaining them in the process. It is part of their life.

Then compare these topic to mine or to Gabethebabe's ones.
Why people should talk about "funny" aspects of the game or about "their own funny" if they haven't personally "lived" it  at least one time?
While the writer *try* to be funny and interesting with his post, the people who read the piece cannot feel the same feelings. They have not been here, they cannot always argue or imagine what happened with the needed angle or perspective.

A direct connection of this situation, usually translate itself in the lack of a good number of answers.

When I see written things such as: lack of contents/answers because of  "different metagame", "non-proxy events", "different deck" and other answers, I usually hardly laugh (LOL or ROTFL, choose any one of them freely Wink)
It is another way to mitigate the truth: people interested about MtG would always read reports but they would reply only in the ones where they have been or can have an active role.

Talking about techincs and strategy into Reports' topic isn't inadeguate but usually it doesn't happen, because the "off.topic general feeling" that usually connect the reader to the writer is far more powerfull.

On the other hand, I really appreciate the ones that showed, directly or indirectly, any form of interest for the things that I summarized for them in my posts ( PM, answers, messages, mails and so on ).

@Gabe.
Write with only an informative and divulgative intent, doesn't put any attention to answers' number or anything else. You write primarily for you, don't you? Smile
