I haven't tested the needle as of yet. I have thought about it, but decided I would rather stick to things that don't cost 1 to maximize the efficiency of the deck because Chalice @1 is usually first order.

I personally don't believe it is undefeatable.  I would RATHER hear other decks telling me how they beat it, and how I can fix the weaknesses.  This is where granite shards came in against CS.  Defense grids are new against Drain decks because the powered up drains were brutal.  If people say gifts is going to wreck this, then great.  Tell me that, and ALSO say what is gifts weakness.  What does THIS deck need to do to beat gifts.  This is what it should look like.

Curious, have you tried pitihing needles in the deck? they seem like theyd be decent against decks that dont run welder, such as gifts, on the offchance that you dont hit your cap.  You could name Time Vault or something of the like.

Naming Time Vault with Pithing Needle is like trying to stop Inspector Gadget with a brick wall; he'll just use his helicopter hat to get around it instead.

So apparently Vroman just split for a mox with this deck.  I haven't heard it straight from him, although I'm definitely seeking to coax him into posting on this thread about the recent tournament that he did so well at.

An issue that has just come to my attention, is the almost certain death that Mana Crypt brings in this deck.  The only ways to get rid of it are 4 welders and 2 karns.  Assuming we play chalice@1 early, which is often a good plan, even if we have to cast it first turn off Crypt, I feel it is the right play.  This then means that if Karn doesn't resolve to destroy our own mana crypt, then we absolutely have to kill them before Crypt kills us. Is there any suggestions that people would have other than adding smokestacks?  They are very good, and there is a good chance of me adding them back into the deck in lieu of resistors.  Other than smokeys though, what are your guys thoughts?

Another important fact that I just realized, is that ALTHOUGH I sb'ed in crypts against all the combo decks I faced during the day, I never actually used Crypt on any of them, never saw it in the matches, yet I still managed to win all of them.  This would lead me to actually CUT crypt from the SB in general, opting for a SB more similar to Vromans.  Possibly 4 Null Rods in the side, but I'm not sure.

Tormod's Crypt is too good to cut.  It singlehandedly won me games at Richmond.  I suppose it depends on the meta.

Im gonna have to a agree with Evenpence on this one. Jason, even aginst me you resolved some crypts, even through they didn't visibly affect the results of the games, they prevented me from going off many times. Crypts are generally strong. The only other alternative is phyrexian furnace, which is fairly bad due to the tendency to chalice for 1. It is very important to include graveyard hate.

But that was ONLY against you.  I never even needed them against IT, Grimlong, or Salvagers.  It might have helped, but would it have been as good as other cards against them like resistors?

EDIT:  I haven't given up on them yet, there are still 4 in my SB, I cut Defense Grids though.  Realistically, I could cut Ubas and Shards for Resistors and Crypts.

Having read vroman's latest report, I came up with a few ideas.  Since he now runs 4 Granite Shard, 3 Cap, 1 Monkey, 1 Karn, 2 Trike and Rods in the side, are Barbarian Rings cuttable now?  Since you want recurrable painless red mana, and you no longer need the added utility of removal, since the Shards provide that, doesn't it make sense to try and cut down on potential pain problems?

Another idea is that if you're going to cut Rods altogether, would running Great Furnace be any good?  Extra free artifacts to weld into stuff seems like good fun.

In any case, Wheel of Fortune should be added back in (we forgot about this card for far too long now) because of 0 Sphere of Resistance in the MD, and to a lesser extent, 0 Null Rod as well.

Im not running any Trikes. b-ring should stay. the damage is worth the removal utility. as for artifact land, I wouldnt stretch null rod vulnerability beyond the bomb threats.

Not to mention that adding artifact lands would also make us more vulnerable to opposing shamans, karns, and various other pieces of artifact hate.

EDIT:  Here is the list Vroman ran

4 wshop
4 bzr
4 waste
4 bring
3 mtn
1 academy
1 strip
5 mox
4 lotus sol vault crypt
4 welder
4 crucible
4 smoky
4 chalice
4 uba
4 granite shard
3 jester
1 karn
1 trisphere
1 monkey
side
4 null rod
4 resistor
4 shattering spree
3 duplicant

He was always quite against running Trikes, so i'm not sure where you got your information from.

I posted some pics on the "pimp deck" thread at SCG
