I've been playing magic off and on since around Guildpact, if I remember correctly, starting my collection with a pack of Ravnica, the 7th edition blue intro deck (I think it was called Bomber or something similar) and the Betrayers of Kamigawa G/W Spirit/Arcane theme deck. Since then I've been playing casually with anyone I could find, and occasionally I would draft or go to prereleases at my LGS. After an absence of about 2 years, I noticed that some of my older cards had dramatically gone up in value, so I decided to start playing competitively. I tried T2 for a few weeks and hated it, so I dived straight into the eternal formats. I now regularly play Legacy at my LGS and I test/discuss T1 concepts with some friends despite there being no regular T1 events in my town. Hoping to start working towards some power and other T1 staples soon!

Hello! My name is Kyle and I'm returning to Vintage again with the release of the P9 on MTGO. For the past few years I've been playing Classic on MTGO instead, and I'm very excited to get back to using power! Now if only the MTGO client could be made reasonably nice....

Hello
Im Fred, 28y, from Brazil. I played magic for last 15 years....not sure, but maybe more, I just stopped 6 year ago couse I didnt like standard format. And here in Brazil people couldnt have access to p9 and didnt like classic format (T1) when I decided move from Starndard to Classic. Im member from MTG Brazillian site since its begginin, judge from Classic Champs, but always was a mess...no members, ppl dint like....i tried to keep ppl playin but they gave up to legacy, so i gave up...I sold my vintage cards couse needed money for university, car. But always created, played and sold cards to stop again in MTGO. Last Weekend, magic turned into magic with Vintage Masters. Finally I can play Vintage format and play the most fun and lovely format of MTG.
Will be hard back to vintage format, get cards, special from 0 on MTGO. Just got moxes, lotus and ancestral, but needed to stop couse ran out money =D. Next weeks I back to it....Cant wait to run old cards again! As Vintage enthusiast, always said Vintage can be the cheapest format! Thanks for accepting !

Hello! My name is Kyle Zavada. I've recently gotten very interested in the Vintage format as well as everything that happens to come with said format and am totally stoked to be here! That being said, a tiny bit about me: I live in Middletown PA, practically Harrisburg by most peoples standards I'm over drinking age I don't bother with Standard or Modern formats anymore I've been playing Magic since I was about 7 and my first booster pack a few years later was from Invasion, where I pulled Dromar, The Banisher I don't own a single piece of Power I stopped playing for a while but eventually came right back to the game.....at least 4 times in my life! That being said, I do hope to learn a LOT about the format here in as much depth as possible. I find the idea of the different interactions to be really fascinating and I also really like the idea of being able to construct anything from an aggro deck to a strong control deck to some combo or rogue strategy. I think the learning is the biggest part that I feel like I will enjoy, not to mention I think it's amazing to have the ability to use such awesome pieces of this games history. Not to mention that making new friends in the area would be awesome as well. Though the biggest goal: Have fun!

Greetings!
My name is Sam Craven aka thecrav on the source aka thecravenone on Twitter. I'm from Houston, Texas.
Vintage was the first real format I ever played. I started with 5c Staxx about five years ago. I just finished my set of power and I've been playing various builds of pyro-gush when I can find someone who wants to play. We're currently trying to get 8+ people locally to play a proxy tournament. 4 of the 5 who have committed are already powered!
I primarily play legacy because I get far more chances to do so. I host a podcast with nedleeds that primarily focuses on Legacy but also delves into Vintage occasionally.
Uhh... I'm not sure what else to say... glad to be here!

Hi everyone!
My name is Mike. I'm 30 years old, live in Downingtown, PA (roughly halfway between Philly and Lancaster), and work 2nd shift as a sheet metal tech building helicopters for Sikorsky.
I got started playing Magic in the 5th grade around the release of Revised and have been playing on and off since then. By the time I was in high school I had built up a pretty nice collection for a kid including 7/9 Power, Drains, and about 30 or so duals along with some other nice-to-haves. Long story short, I lost everything in a car crash and gave up on the game for a few years. I found MODO when I was in college, started playing, and through trading and some tournament winnings was able to build up a nice collection once again. I was forced to sell most of it after college due to bills and lack of employment. I started playing again this winter when my girlfriend got me to try Hearthstone. My opinion of it was "Magic for Dummies", but it did re-spark my interest in Magic. Once I read that Vintage was coming online, I was sold. I traded off some of my remaining cards for eternal staples and dabbled in Legacy to bide my time until the VMA release. In the past few weeks I spent most of my tax return that I was saving on a full set of Power and the cards to build several Drain decks. I currently have ECW, Dace Magic Dance, Tezz/Oath and Dack/Welder Control built.

Hi everyone! I'm new here, and wanted to introduce myself. I've been playing since Antiquities, and have always been a Vintage first type of player. I like playing decks that attack the metagame, so I switch it up with decks like Terra Nova MUD, UR Delver, and Dredge depending on the situation.
Look forward to talking to you all!

Heard of this site through the grapevine and am very happy I did, love the discussions going on here. My name is Cooper, I'm 22 and attending college in Austin, Texas. I primarily play MTGO as that was how I was introduced to the game a little less than a year ago. I hope to expand my knowledge of the Vintage format here ^^

Hi TMD, My name is Paul. I've been playing M:tG since Unlimited but I took a long hiatus (from Urza block through RAV/TSP Standard) to go to college and grad school, meet my wife, go overseas with the reserves and find a job. I started playing seriously in 2007 and played mostly Standard. I got into Legacy and, in particular, Vintage about a year ago when I realized that I could actually use those Power 9 cards I'd saved from the '90s. I have a likely unenviable love of glass cannon decks so I play Belcher and All Spells in Legacy and I love me some Vintage Dredge (not that Dredge is a true glass cannon, though it is certainly linear, especially in game one). Perhaps because of my age (37) or because of my occupation (I am a college English professor, whence my overlong introduction), I love Magic best because it allows me to meet people, teach people and learn from people. Sure, I like to win but I just love the game and have for twenty years. In fact, when my wife and I moved from NY to my native MA, I told her, quite clearly, that I'd be playing Magic again. To her great credit, she hasn't complained. Anyway, I love Magic and I really love eternal formats. I don't know what I have to offer the forums but I'm glad to be a part of TMD.

I'm Josef, or Jo. I'm 24, from Manchester, England, and I've been playing since M12 Game Day. The first thing I ever really did was Rune-Scarred Demon for a Grave Titan in UB Control, and ever since then I've been addicted to doing completely degenerate things that are similar to how that felt when we were playing with intro decks and about five extra cards. I quickly became addicted to playing control, nearly T8ing a PTQ with Tamiyo/Gideon doing the dirty on my opponents in Scars/Inn Standard. (I forgot to put a land into play on turn six with a Terminus in hand. I will remember that until the day I die.) I quickly got into Modern, playing UW Control there, and eventually got myself some Sensei's Divining Tops and started forcing tournaments to go on for a good extra half hour than they should. Eventually I learned what I was doing, and bought myself a Gush and Merchant Scroll. And so begins the slippery slope into debt. I posted on The Source for some time, and was informed of TMD by a friend who plays Vintage (or at least, wishes he had someone to play it with) and quickly started getting into ruining everyone else's fun with Mana Drains and Mental Misstep. I currently own zero power, and zero of anything close to power, but once I've finished up my Legacy collection, I'll be looking at buying into some of this stuff. Until then it's proxies, sadly, but even this Plains with some Sharpie on it can draw me three cards...

Hi everybody!
My name is Frank, 33, longtime nickname has been frankycuttlas (long story) so I go by Frank Cuttlas to many who know me. Born and raised in Chicago, IL but have lived in Austin, TX for the last 8 years. When I was a kid the comic book store I hung out at had a few gaming tables and a few older dudes would play MTG there. Unlimited had just came out but the store was bought up quickly so a friend and I were only spectators until Revised was released. We each bought a starter deck and 2 boosters, and I was hooked. Played revised through Ice Age and managed to convert a 2nd friend to the game. After Ice Age was released both friends who played quit for different reasons and I was left with no one to really play with, so I stopped. At M12 I downloaded the stupid ipad game and got frustrated at all the limitations of it such as deck building and game play. Id try and play a combat trick as an instant and the game would move on to damage and I would lost my guy, etc. So I called around to a few LGS to see if they had the promo Grave Titan card as it was a free bonus. I went to one and the owner told me about the M12 pre-release which was just a few weeks away. I signed up and have been hooked since.
I only play Legacy & Vintage and I am addicted to foils. I had a huge collection of Modern cards, could play any deck in the format, but when they all spiked again and again, I decided to sell out of Modern completely and buy power as I knew Vintage Masters was coming and anticipated power getting even more expensive. I grinded my way to a full set of power in just under 1 month (it was exhausting).
My main goal with registering on TMD is to join into the local community events section. Sometime last year a few of my friends started a cabal, The Eternal Struggle, with a few Vintage enthusiasts and we began hosting our own Vintage tournaments with an unlimited number of proxies allowed (but we do have rules for acceptable proxies). We typically bring Vintage decks to events and jam side games as a way to encourage players to just try the format and help grow our local Vintage community. Between the 5 members of the cabal we have an L2 Judge, an L1 Judge, and and total of 3 members who can run our own WER. Our approach to any LGS who is willing to host our events is "We can bring our own judge, our own WER, and will handle everything, we just need the space." It has been up and down so far, but we are learning more with each event. Once I get more acclimated on here, I will post the details of our next event. Any and all are welcome!

Hi Everyone,
My name is Feng Nai and I am a new vintage enthusiast. I just started playing vintage with the release of power 9 on MtGO, and I am looking forward to learn the intricacies of the format from this excellent community. My magic experience started with Odyssey block during my high school years. I have mainly played standard and limited until Innistrad block when my graduate school started. Due to time limitations, I can no longer follow the rapidly changing standard format anymore so my interest turned to eternal formats. Hopefully I can learn the Vintage format through MtGO and eventually I can acquire power in paper.

Hello
My name is Richard. A few years ago I went through a brief period where I played DotA with a bunch of my friends. When I had to choose an online handle, I chose Jebediah Springfield (founder of the town Springfield from The Simpsons). The name stuck and ever since my friends have referred to me as Jeb. I am a university student living in Cape Town, South Africa. I started playing Magic about a year ago and quickly learned about eternal formats. When I say "learned about" I mean "became addicted to". I've been lurking on TMD for a few months now, and finally requested a user account so that I can ask people (what I am sure will seem like dumb) questions on various threads.
I hope that my questions will result in both my learning about Magic as a game and Vintage as a format.

Hello All,
I've been playing Vintage for a few years now, but a resurgence of my local group in northeast PA has gotten me more involved. Seemed like it was about time I got an account here. Having read many of your posts, I have a good deal of respect for the forum and hope to provide a small amount of insight on the format and community.

Hey TMD--
Turns out I actually registered all the way back in 2006, but at the time I was still in college and only played R/G Xmas Beats! I've been much more active in Legacy up until now, but now I actually have a decent vintage collection.
Also, I recently moved from Los Angeles to London and I'm looking for a new group to play with. I'm 28, work in media consulting, like to drink Ale ^^
Drop me a line if you have a good group!
Cheers Bryan

Hi, I'm another Bryan that registered years ago and had password issues, so lurked for a while. I've been playing since unlim/Arabs, and foolishly quit early, coming back during revised and back end of legends. Haven't played for a couple of years now, as we've got a 2 year old and a 5 month old, but I managed to get to a local store to play a bit of casual type I the other week. I've pretty much quit type II for good, as I can't justify the expense of buying into a full block of staples (Ironically, the Rav reprints meant I'd have had those - lol) but was able to pick up type I playables from the period for a few quid and will get a couple more in trades - see, it's type II that's expensive Handily, my local store seems to be getting into older formats now, so proxy games can be found easily. Nice to see MODO has finally got round to releasing power and filling some of the glaring deck gaps, should make our format more popular than ever with any luck.

Hello everyone, my name is Zhang Ji and I am from Beijing, mainland China. I am a dedicated legacy player for quite some years, flirting with standard and limited some times. I love vintage mainly because I love old and powerful cards and I wish I could have the chance playing vintage in a competitive environment, but now there is only unsanctioned tournament in other city, which is too far from Beijing...Having had some vintage staples now(playset of bazaar and drain, library, recall and one mox), I can sometimes play with my friends for fun(of cource with proxies)...I like reading articles and posts discussing vintage, watching others playing vintage on videos or streamings online. I feel really pleased that I can join the TMD community.
ps, I will go to Hong Kong for Master studies this fall, if anyone knows something about vintage or legacy there, plz sent message to me, thank you very much!

Hi TMD'ers,
I am Michael from Sydney, Australia. I started playing MTG in high school around 1994, sold out around 2007, then back again in 2013. I remember lurking in the TMD forums during my first stint for Type 1/extended strategies, and find myself doing the same for vintage-related information now.
I bought my power/staples in my second stint just before the surge in value and demand. The local vintage community is quite small compared to US and Europe, so organised events don't happen that often (at most 4 major events a year). However, I just find free time required to play hard to come by due to family commitments (a young toddler who has chewed through 1-2 JtMS in his spare time). My interest has now turn to collecting original MTG art, which consists of a modest collection of basic land art and lesser-playable pieces that happen to be sofa friendly (I am idiotek on OMA)
Look forward to hear from fellow players / art collectors and participate in discussions about the game/art in the future.

Hey Michael, I don't think we actually ever met in person which is quite sad considering that I'm also living in Sydney and that Rob Bartlet is a common friend... Yeah real life stuff and it's not gonna get easier as Rob (I mean Rob's wife) is expecting a baby within the next month... Anywys, I'm trying to organise something on Sat 16th evening (one week before Sydney GP) so that we can try to get some Eternal shuffling before hand. I contact you via PM PS: and yeah I'ld like to see your art pieces IRL!

Hi all,
My name is Chris from the central NJ area and this is my third stint into magic! First started around Ice Age by playing with older cousins cards (I mustve been around 6-7 at the time) and eventually started building up my own collection playing the great bombs like Craw Giant and making up my own rules as to what banding actually was. I played on and off in non-competitive natures with decks that I just found to be fun through middle school till I traded my whole (read small) collection for a handful of second hand video games.
Shortly after this happened I became friends with a new guy who had moved to the area from NY who had been playing in a fun nature and in HS renewed my love for the game. Played in a more competitive nature but just at LGS's for Odyssey up through Mirrodin (primarily T2 as thats what my friends were playing but always with a lust for T1). College rolled around, friends moved away, and I was left again with a collection (much better this time around since I could actually buy things myself!) but no one to play with.
Jump ahead to about 2 years ago and I overheard a conversation about Magic while bartending. Let me tell you that that is not a very common thing to come across hah. I jump in and find out that the one guy is local and we hit it off just BSing about cards from 8-10 years prior and how I have roughly 7k (count) just sitting at home. Fast forward a few weeks and I am back to brewing and diving head first into legacy. When I want to get into something I fully submerse myself into it.
After watching Joel Lim and others play at Champs last year and seeing "fair" decks standing a chance in Vintage I realized that this was something I just had to try out for myself. I have been creeping on this forum for close to a year now and finally went and created an account. I just played in my second event this weekend at the TMD open and I could not be more infatuated with a format or community than I am now. You guys have been great that I have met so far and matches have just been a blast. Looking forward to many more events to come!

Hey everyone. My name is Mike. I am a 30 year old dentist practicing in Santa Rosa, California. I have been an on-and-off Magic player since 1995. The recent introduction of Vintage Masters has rekindled my interest in the game. I have always been a fan of eternal formats but never had the resources or time to participate.
Outside of dentistry, my strongest passion is bowling. I compete regularly in tournaments throughout California and Nevada and bowl in two leagues. This, along with my engagement to my college sweetheart, occupies much of my weekend time.
I have come to enjoy building a MTGO collection over the past several months and studying the vintage metagame. Unfortunately, I cannot participate in paper vintage Magic without borrowing, but I look forward to participating in the community as much as possible.

Hello all. My name is Nick and I started playing magic in 1995 with 4th edition. I always liked type 1.5 but only bought into power starting in 2001. I never sold my collection but quit magic starting in tempest and only collected older stuff until recently.
TMD was recommended to me from the folks over at MOTL. Since then, I discovered Old School magic and that seems like the best format for me to play in. Right now it is just my two brothers and one other friend who ever get together for it but being from the central coast of CA, I look forward to getting up to the bay area to participate in some Old School pretty soon.
