Master Tap was one game away from making top eight. Stompy, no Strip Mine, no sideboard. So cool.

Team GG.  Why can't you beat Shay and his deck?  Why does your gifts list ALWAYS lose to control slaver, or, at least, not win tournaments?  OMG we added Repeal to gifts and Andy Probasco couldn't even make top 8 in a 30 person tournament!  SOunds like the perfect deck for Rochester!  Not!

I've played Rich Via Magic Workstation for about two weeks with the Jar, and I played it in south Milwaukee, and I must say... It and Repeal are the nuts.

Then how did you make the pro tour?

Usually when people lose consistently playing the same deck they switch decks.

As a small sidenote... Team GG did take 1st/2nd/5th at the last New England tournement... But people dont realize this because Andy Probasco is an extremely modest magic player who is quiet in victory and defeat.

Though I agree with Smennen. You should switch decks.

Brassman is a modest man in a world of egos. He also understands Type One theory better than just about anyone.
As for his deck, for a while Brassman had a really good deck. Then Wizards decided to end that game. So, the list he had been working on and tuning for a long time isn't playable anymore.

I am a little confused why other people feel compelled to speak on behalf of Andy.  I know full well that he is capable of voicing his own opinion.  I was surprised that Rich thinks that my second to last post was a bit harsh.  I was even more surprised that Rich feels compelled to speak on Andy’s behalf.  Do you think I’m attacking him?  Why is this perceived as a meandeck v. gg attack or contest instead of an honest inquiry?

Furthermore, I also am very confused about Rich’s assertion.  Andy’s best performances, that I can recall, with his Gifts list were 2nd place at Gencon and top 3 at SCG Richmond in October.  His list at Gencon ran Severance and Belcher (as did his list before that).  Why, Rich, do you think his list went from great to suddenly unplayable when a) he had performed at major events before with Belcher and not Time Vault and b) Andy has said that the win condition isn’t that important – in fact he ran Mishra’s Factories as a win condition in the past?  That just doesn’t make sense.  The loss of Time Vault should not make a deck that was great into unplayable.  Particularly when you consider that Andy ran Severance-Belcher over Time Vault the first day of the last SCG Richmond in March!!

Steve,

The loss of Time Vault really hurt Brassman's Gifts deck. While Brassman did not consistently play his Flame Gifts build, his teammates did, often to good results. Outlaw exemplifies this -- he won quite a few pieces of power with Brassman's deck.

The fact is that the win condition does matter. Having a six mana 2-card combo in the deck allows the deck to run a full set of tutors, and makes each of those tutors much better than it otherwise would be. Most importantly. having such an efficient combo allowed the deck to Win Small, something that Gifts is often not too good at. So, the win condition doesn't matter very much when Gifts is going off like a combo deck using Yawgmoth's Will -- then, the deck often has piles of extra mana sitting around. However, the win condition does matter when you're trying to assemble the win without going off. In those instances, the efficiency of the Flame Vault kill enabled the deck to Win Small much better than any other build of Gifts.

Finally, on the subject of harshness. Do you really think that your post wasn't harsh? I PM'd you because, when I read your post, it did seem a bit harsh towards Andy.

Why is this perceived as a meandeck v. gg attack or contest instead of an honest inquiry?

Because villains make magic more fun, and your persona makes for a great black hat.

Andy comes across like the ultimate nice guy, where as you often come across as (hmmm...how should I put this nicely) well, not.
This is all of course irrespective of both your real personalities and what-not, just outward perceptions.

It retrospect, it was a bit harsh.  But why do you care?  You've never pmed me before about anything like this.  I don’t see why you felt it necessary to pm me about this.  What motivated you?  I thought it was surprising and a bit odd.

I come across as not a nice guy?  I thought magic was a war of ideas and wits, not good versus evil.  My mistake.  How does whether I’m a nice guy or not matter one lick?  And why do you think I do not come across as a nice guy?  I think I’m a very nice guy.

In a society based around a foundamental religion like Christianity, it's hard to not see things as good vs. evil.

I'm kidding.

I think that we should see what happens at Rochester before we say that Brassman's Gifts isn't that good. I would've changed my deck perference to something else too, but maybe he just likes the deck so much. I dunno. Shay's new list looks really good though, I really like the Repeals in the Rack and Ruin/ other metagame slots. I'd like to hear more about his deck than the unknown Gifts list. We can't even see the deck, so I can't even talk about it. All I know is that it has Repeal in it. I'm assuming that it runs just Colossus now?

If you think steve's mean, fine, be that way, but really, you just gotta know how to accept his way of voicing his oppinions.   The way he says things may come off as harsh, but he only intends to further conversation.  Steve, correct me if I'm wrong.

As for brassman.  he's brassman.  Enough said.  one of the first major TMDers I met, and one of the nicest.

I come across as not a nice guy?  I thought magic was a war of ideas and wits, not good versus evil.  My mistake.  How does whether I’m a nice guy or not matter one lick?  And why do you think I do not come across as a nice guy?  I think I’m a very nice guy.

Your a nice guy steve, just look what you said about me.........

Eric, if you are tournament capable of playing this deck I have even more respect for you than I already have.  Your skills are great indeed.

Eric's sb analysis looks great.

Thanks. You da best.

Joking aside. You've drawn the fine line between slow play and combo math a number of times. Some people don't like you for it and consider it cheating. I'm on your side, I've had a 15 minute brainstorm as well.

You're the best know member of the vintage community in the world, people are going to have mixed opinions about you.

The unknown Gifts list is mine if anyone really cares.  I gave Craig the list and he made Top 4 with it and then I asked him to withhold it so its not out before Rochester.  I'll release it after Rochester but don't ask for it anytime before.  Damn Team secrets.  Very Happy

Or a 15 minute Yawgmoth's Bargain  Wink. Like I say, as long as you kick my ass effeciently and thoroughly afterwards, then take as long as you want. This goes to all combo players, and if someone says differently, then....I don't know, they suck I guess.
