Wow, SS won again huh? I would not have guessed that to happen.
How did Becker do and what did he play?
Tommy is a great player and it doesn't surprise me that made top 8.
Dan made top 8--he's a cocky player and can be irritating, but he plays Oath very well (almost as well as his brother--haha Dan).

The resulsts for these two tournaments may be a bit off the wall, so it is hard to tell what effect this has on the metagame. 50 people is definitely very little, with less variety and player population.

GWS sends ONE guy, and home comes 1 piece. Seems fine.
Anyone notice the REDICULOUS amount of power that GWS and ICBM have won at Rochester, Richmond, and Charlotte.
Richmond: Eric X 2, Brian X1 (first place), Matt X1 Total 5
Rochester (no GWSers in attendance) TK (first) Spooky Kid (First) Total, 4
Charlotte TK X1 Mr. Ego X1 Mr. Ego's older brother X1 Eric X1 Total 4
Grand Total: 13 pieces out of 54. That's Also 3 for 6 in finals, and 10 out of 48 pieces of power.
Richmond: Matt Endress, Eric Becker, Matt Morrison, Ryan Spindler, Spooky Kid, Ben and Dan Carp, I@n DeGraff, and Brian Fisher, and myself.
Rochester: Dave Carhart, I@n DeGraff, Tommy Kolowith, Spooky Kid, Hydra, Chris Nibor.
Charlotte Mr. Ego Dan Carp, Ben Carp, Tommy Kolowith, Eric Becker. All 4 came home with power.
MIDWEST DOMINANCE.

Honestly, with this turnout this tournament means about as much metagame wise as a standard local tournament (with a Lotus or something for first).
Becker played a 2 color Tendrils deck that runs ~7 (that's the number being run last week) pitch spells. Obviously, it had the Becker Manabase of 6/7 fetch and like 4 fetchable lands.

Anyone notice the REDICULOUS amount that nobody cares? I did. I, in fact, was leading the charge of not caring by sitting on the couch in my underpants watching TV and eating greasy potato chips until I fall asleep. Well, if you could do that in Japan, thats what I would have done. On a productive note: I agree with Moxlotus. The turnout basically means that these results dont hold a lot of relevance. After all, Meandeck wasn't there, so the tournament is obviously null and void.

Yes, this tournament is irrelivant, which makes me feel a LITTLE better with dan top8ing, because it means nothing. Milwaukee has had local events larger than this one (47 people at one)

On a side note, despite the low turnouts out there, what is the scrub.dec to quality player ratio at these events?
I know that a lot of top players read TMD/(scg) for Vintage Info, but of the 60ish players, how many play R/G beats and White Weenie or even Netdeck.dec-but they suck/don't know stack/meta type players.
Anyone willing to put up a percentage?
I would say that for MY meta (Northern California) the good player to scrub ratio is 3-1. That is, out of 25 players (our average size tourney, 20-30), at least 75% of players know what they are doing/have good decks/know rules etc.
If this questions starts any serious negativity, I accept verbal warning pre-emptively. But still? Izzet? Awesome!
(on a final note, it took me months of T1 play, no-proxy initially, to not be a scrub. I just had what I considered to be a broken deck, in a no-proxy environment).

Hi all, Thanks to everyone who made the trip to Charlotte. Both SCG P9 tourneys were small, but everyone seemed to have fun. As always, every promised piece of P9 was given away. Oh, and one more thing... "It was said they would announce their next events at this tournament. Have they?"Yup. More info coming soon, but mark my words... you won't want to miss this one. A good chunk of vintage players are in the midwest and they throw the next one in Boston? I'm cool with this as long as we get one out here, but you have to wonder how late in the year they plan( if any) SCG in chicago. Pushing it too far back might be a problem with weather.

The word is spelled ridiculous. Please stop getting it wrong, people.
The the other word is spelled irrelevant. Thus endedth the 6th grade spelling lesson. We are only planning one more SCG P9 back-to-back weekend in 2006, and, due to site and potential weather issues, it will not be in Chicago. That said, I give you my word that the SCG P9 series will return to Chicago in 2007. Trust me, nobody wants to get back there more than me. Smile
Best wishes,
Pete Hoefling If you really wanted to be back here [Chicago - I live in chicago, so it's "here" to me], you'd be here. Not sure what "potential weather issues" are, but unless the thought was to have it in Janurary or February, we haven't really had any snow that sticks more than a day or two until then (thank you global warming ). So after a 2005 season that averaged 135 per tournament in Chicago, we have to wait over a year+? Is it that much of a cost difference to come here vs East Coast?

The next SCG in Boston?! That's pretty damn awesome if you ask me, which no one did.
Also, what happened to the spell check function? I mean, I see it when I post, but it seems no one else has the ability to hit the button.

I had a blast this weekend, despite the low turnout. I went 2-2-1 day 2 and got knocked out due to a combination of atrocious luck and a couple play mistakes. I may or may not write a report.
Day 1 I was judging and was privy to all of what happened with the DQ. It would be innapropriate for me to discuss the details here, but I just want to say that the DQ was absolutely appropriate. I stand firmly behind the head judge on this. There is absolutely no question in my mind that it was called for.
That said, it was probably inevitable that something like this had to happen eventually. I'm dissapointed it did, but I'm pleased that we went through a large number of events before having such an incident.

holy shitballs charlotte is far away from connecticut. 13 hours just got back. I don't even care that I didn't make top 8 either day, the fact that Andy swaps decks with me before the tournament for HA HA's and he made top 8 is the shit. I was in contention with GG gifts day 2 until I ran into grim long in round 5 and just couldn't race it.
Andy's decklist will get some W T F's for sure, but he played a perfect sideboard, and pwned bitches all day.
OHHHHH NOOO MY BETA TIME WALK !!!!
I said that to louis about 500 times on the way home. It was a LONG RIDE!
Apparantly, it was also a good idea to bring nate pease along, 2 top 8's 1 win. Give kyle leith a little time to take credit for nate making top 8 both days.

And again, the Midwest dominates. It makes me proud to have top-eighted in two of my three type one events (being the only 3-1-1 to miss top eight getting ninth on breakers) here. Hopefully I'll see you guys at Pastimes soon.
But besides me feeling special for no reason, I'm liking all of the random combo decks popping up. Becker two color combo, Bomberman, the resurgance of Dragon, and Izzet-Tide. I get into heated arguments about Vintage all the time since everyone at my shop is extremely ignorant about the format, and have yelled at more than a few people about how there's even more room for rogue decks in Type 1 than Type 2, and Top Eights like the ones we've been having just prove that point.
Congrats to those coming home with power. -AJ

Beside all the chitchat on word spelling, team results and an eaten Time Walk, I just want to note that the top 8 sounds pretty interesting and I'm damn curious to see all the list. Especially Mr. Beckers one, as it seems that he has given Tendrils another route again. Good job man!

High Tide isn't even in the decklist that was shown to us in the open forum. This is probably a mistake saying the deck ran this card. I am assuming this though, ofcourse.

I really hope SCG will atleast try to stop somewhere out west. It's highly unlikely, but it would be awesome. Somehwere like CA, MO, MN, MI, WA, KS, or heck, even Colorado. At worst, it'll probably get more than 60 people.
Anyways, I'll try my best to make it out to Boston. Man I love that city. Props to Pete & SCG for continuing the series.
Congrats to everyone who T8ed.
