I'm Jon Summers, from the top 16. Me, Brassy, Stephan and Mark "The Future" Tuttle were all playing the same list which we affectionately called MSPaint (Merchant Scroll Painter).
And Sextiger, we used Gifts too, it was like the return of Flame Vault Gifts. :p

So take the list seen from the ICBM tourney, -4 Mana, -1 Gifts, -1 Thirst, -1 Demonic Consultation, +4 Gush, +1 Fastbond, +2 Ponder= best deck in the format. Sigh, Gush needs to die in a fire.
-4Mana??? Which ones?

So the official name for the deck is "MS Paint", and it is taking the metagame by storm. I just assumed that it was just new and so it was seeing play but looks like it got broken. Also, from the looks of the results it seems that Flash may really have found a truly godawful matchup, maybe stopping people from calling for restrictions or even playing the deck .

I just spoke with Ben Carp via device that echoes voices long distances, and unfortunately I don't have much results.
It's the end of the second round. The ICBM guys aren't doing too well. Seroogy with their painter list is 2-0, and Nieghbor is 1-1. Gunslinga is 1-1 with Deez Naughts. Smemememememememen is 2-0 apparently playing 8 duress GAT. Becker is playing Tendrils, and it does have dark confidants. I'm assuming it's either Doomsday or Draw72K8. I'm hoping it's the later, as the deck is phenominal! He had no updates on anyone else, but he does know Mark Trogdan is no longer a mountain troll, he is a creature of the swamp, playing MONOBLACK!
Next time he calls, I'll try to get updates on
Ben Carp Jeremy seroogy Chris Nieghbor Owen Turtenwald (if he's playing vintage today, which I doubt) Eric Becker Mark Trogdan Jerry Yang Smememememememen Brassman Stephan Ellsworth Kowal Demars

congratulations to andy
re: seroogy. if the comment was made before the decision, it could be construed as collusion (which is what happened, correct?). for future reference, if your opponent says concede, you THEN say thanks and tell him half of your winning is his in whatever case, that is legal.

I had nothing to do with building MSPaint, but I'm glad that my name for it stuck.
With one round left in the Swiss, it appears that Kowal (Oath), Brassman (MSPaint), T00L (MSPaint), and Smmenen (8 Duress GAT) can all draw in, unless they get paired down.

only 6 rounds today. Apparently there's around 60 people. After round 5: 1) Stephen Menenenenenenenenendian (8 duress GAT) 2) Jerry Yang (Trogdor, the mud-inator) 3) Brian Demars (Gush Tendrils with High Tide) 4) Nick Coss (no clue) 5) Ben Kowal (Oath) 6) Stephen Ellsworth (MSPaint) 7) Lou Christopher (no clue) The judge took down the standings as Ben was on el telefone with me. I know from talking with Jerry Yang that he is drawing in with Steve at table 1. Demars is a lock as long as he doesn't get paired down. NO ICBM in the top8 either day. It seems all 3 ICBMers playing are knocked out. they got 143 total. x 30. $4290 in entrance. 3000 in prizes both days. SCG probably pays about 2300 for the power they give away, and about 25 each for the BB duals. They definitely lost money. Hopefully they will come back to the midwest I'm greedy, so sue me!

I just got off the phone with Mr. Christopher and he is playing Ichorid. He drew with Kowal and thinks he's in unless he gets totally boned on breakers. Good luck to everyone in top 8.

Yeah, I hear that the 7 players listed there are in the top 8. The missing person is Anthony Grasso (sp?).
Jerry Yang has to play Tool. Good luck Jerry! I hope you can break the top 8 this time! Also, good luck Kowal! That guy is good!
Good luck to the rest of the top 8 too! Those are some talented players!

I think Nick Coss is probably playing Flash as he is usually playing that at the CollegevilleCards tournaments. Good luck to all the top 8s and hopefully starcity will keep doing the type 1 in Richmond because next year I will definitely be going.

Brian Demars played Gasso in the finals. Brian according to Ben was dominating the first game, but then realized that he presented an illegal deck, having a sideboard card in his maindeck. He called the judge, who gave him a game loss.
And then Demars smashed him in 3.
Congrats to all who top8ed!

does anyone else find it odd that starcity has infinite coverage of the standard event but is more or less ignoring the fact that they had any vintage going on? why the snub?

Because they have one coverage guy (evan erwin) and it makes infinitely more sense to have him cover the format he knows and is vastly more popular?

Hopefully they will come back to the midwest I'm greedy, so sue me! I'm going to attempt to make another Chicago 2 day event happen again, regardless of SCG's attendance or not. But, we will see how that goes Any interest anyone?

Oh, and SCG didn't even cover the Chicago event with NO type 2 going on the same day... I'm starting to think they don't care about the event anymore.
If I get the support from the community, I'll make it happen at least once a year in Chicago as a two day event...

Chicago was a blast last time we were up there good competition, but one thing bothers me. Will this event bring in as many people as Starcity because of their name, and intense card buying list? I don't want to drive from CO to an event that has like 40 people. Just a thought.

Woah. Very very nice way to win a tournament, ffy ! And kudos to the others in the top 8. That was risky, but legality >>> illegality. Demars is so hawt. :p

Honestly I think it has more to do with the size of the vintage community. Everyone knows everyone and pretty much everything gets talked about on here. Covering it officially really seems like its just a waste of money on SCGs part. Its hard enough to consistently make money on power 9 series with gas prices the way they are. Look at how many times attendance has been like 50. Between tourney reports and coverage, most everything gets said, or enough that wasting money on coverage isnt worth it because the profit margin is tight enough as it is.

That's why Chicago and Indy are the two best places to host this event, IMHO. They can get 120+ players any time at both of those locations. Peace, -Troy

Just from a guy in Euro, your gas prices are not that high. If I understand correct the current price in US is 3 dollar for a gallon. In Europe that is about 10 Dollar a gallon(don't know if i spelled this correct). And we drive also for 2 ours to tournaments because there are to few of them.
Just my 2 cents

Does anyone have the decklists from the top8?
/Zeus
I got 4th day 1 with the list below. I think I was the only one to start 5-0. I then had to play it out with Dustin playing Deez Noughts where he defeated me and I then drew in. I defeated Shop Aggro in the first round of Swiss before losing to Probasco in 3 games. The list below is the same as I have been playing for a long time. Basically I went: -1 Ancestor's Chosen +1 Wispmare in the main and for the side: -1 Darkblast +1 Wispmare list: Bazaar stuff: 4 Bazaar of Baghdad 4 Serum Powder 3 Petrified Field Dredgers: 4 Golgari Grave-Troll 4 Stinkweed Imp 4 Golgari Thug 1 Darkblast Beaters: 4 Bridge from Below 4 Ichorid 4 Narcomoeba turn 1 disruption: 4 Leyline of the Void 4 Unmask 4 Chalice of the Void Flash back stuff: 4 Cabal Therapy 2 Dread Return 1 Ancestor's Chosen 1 Wispmare Sideboard cards that are in the main: 4 City of Brass Sideboard cards that are in the sideboard: 4 Gemstone Mine 4 Chain of Vapor 4 Emerald Charm 3 Wispmare
