The Third in the Vintage Cup at Pandemonium Books and Games in Central Square, Cambridge, MA!

-- ELD is 2/0 for taking my moxen...SOMEONE STOP HIM!!!--

Pandemonium Books and Games
4 Pleasant Street
Cambridge, MA 02139
617-547-3721

*WHEN and HOW MUCH?*
Saturday, October 11, 2008
The entry fee will be $25.

 ***MODIFIED STORE HOURS***
The store will be open at 10:00am and the tournament will start at 11:00am to accommodate players that will travel from outside of the Cambridge / Boston Area.    If people are running late, we will be able to hold the start of the tournament to ABSOLUTELY NO LATER THEN 11:30am.  Please make every effort to be on time.

*PRIZE*
The MOX SAPPHIRE is in EX+ condition, the face of the card looks very nice, there is slight damage on the edges of the cards.  The back of the card has some significant scuffing, but there is no bends or folds on the card.  This is certainly the best of the Moxen we've given away so far!  The rest of the prizes will be based on attendance.  The following is a possible prize breakdown for 32 players.

1st: Mox Sapphire
2nd: $125 Store Credit
3rd-4th: $65 Store Credit
5th-8th: $25 Store Credit

A popular question that was asked at the first event was what is store credit?  For store credit, we have a growing collection of singles including standard, extended and vintage goodies available, we also have packs and products, a large collection of science fiction and fantasy books and many other games!  Check out our website for more on the products that we sell.  Store credit may also be saved for future purchases or events.  There is no restrictions on using store credit in the store at any time for any thing.

*PREREGISTRATION*
Players are encouraged to preregister for this event but are not required to attend so that we may have an idea on the number of players coming.  We'll do a raffle for $20 of Store Credit to be given away between all players who preregister before October 1st! (CLOSED) I'll take any registration through this thread or you can e-mail chris@pandemoniumbooks.com, or you can call the store at 617-547-3721, prepayment is not required as any prize for preregistration would need to have been taken before Oct. 1st.

*PARKING*
Parking is available around the store, metered spots are $.25 per half hour, Meters close at six.  There are pay lots that have a day rate as well.  If all else fails, there is a parking garage on Green Street a few blocks away, a bit more expensive but they will have a space for you.

*PROXIES, DECKLISTS AND RULES*
This is a 15 Proxy vintage event plus any ELD proxies that you have in your deck, no additional proxies are allowed.  Proxies must be written or drawn on a Magic: the Gathering card.  Full rules text on the card is strongly recommended..  No paper inserts or double sleeving is allowed for this event.

It's requested that you bring a typed or neatly handwritten deck list with you, if you do not have one please arrive early enough to write it up, deck registration sheets will be provided.  Please mark off deck totals and proxy totals as well as what cards you are using as proxies on your deck list.  ELD Proxies are allowed and do not count towards your proxy limit, but must be marked on your deck list.  All deck lists must be written or printed on standard size 8.5" x 11" paper.

Even though this is an unsanctioned tournament, there is a lot on the line.  To maintain integrity, we will be using Competetive Rules Enforcement and penalties.  Please do not abbreviate cards on your deck list.

*ROUNDS, BREAKS AND FOOD*
32 Players and under, 5 Rounds.
Over 32 Players, 6 Rounds.
Time: 50 Minutes

The store has many snacks and drinks available at any time.  We will break for lunch after round 1, Cheese and Pepperoni Pizza will be available at $2.00 per slice, delivered from Hi-Fi Pizza (this is a different shop then our usual place to order from, the slices are bigger and customers have been happier with this shop). This will be a 30 minute break after all match slips are collected after round 1 (or later if the majority of players want to wait until after round 2).  If there are 6 rounds, there will be a 15 minute break after round 4 for the benefit of everyone's health.   Top 8 matches are single elimination, un-timed.

*WE BUY CARDS*
As we are a Magic: the Gathienr dealer, we buy and sell cards all the time, and you can buy and sell with us all day!  Need cash?  Want to enter the tournament with Cardboard?  We will have an extensive buylist for all cards.  For some cards, up to 20% may be awarded as a bonus if traded or if store credit is received.

While trading is encouraged, players are not allowed to buy and sell cards to each other.

*SIDE EVENTS*
We'll be hosting Booster Drafts and Cube Drafts as they fill up all day long!

Any questions definitely call the store!  If anyone feels like I missed something, definitely replay and I will update the post!

It's technically 3-0 :p  I split in your first event that you co-hosted with Chester Li, back before this new run of Mox Tournaments.  I can definitely attribute it in part to the very comfortable store.  When a venue is cramped, uncomfortable or chaotic, I do not play my best.  Pandemonium is spacious, they have excellent climate control, and no distracting TV's or music.  The play area is even set back from all the retail activity, so when I'm there, I can just focus on winning.

It's still a ways out, but I'll be there if possible.

That wasn't really MY Mox, it really was Chester's Mox...So that doesn't count...at least not to me.

We've come across a Mox Pearl for the next one for you to win as well, so the future of these tournaments is looking pretty sweet.

To preregister, please call the store at 617-547-3721.  Please note that a credit or debit card will be asked for to prepay for the event to be eligible for the store credit prize.

Thanks!

Preregistration is closed, no one prereg'd anyway.  We have plenty of space in the arena, we had an more then 60 magic players at the prerelease this past weekend and there was plenty of elbow room, so space isn't an issue.  Come on down and play for the sapphire!

If you want to preregister without prepayment just to help organization go faster, let me know.  I'll be watching this thread every day this week.  I'm getting psyched up for this weekend after a successful Prerelease and Release in the store (46 man tournaments x3!), looking for another successful weekend and to give away the mox to someone who isn't ELD!  I'll take any registration through this thread or you can e-mail chris@pandemoniumbooks.com, or you can call the store at 617-547-3721.

RIP Mogg Fanatic...at least you are still better than Fire Bowman!!!

I was once asked on MWS, what the highest I ever finished at a TMD Open was.  I replied, "I've never played in a Waterbury.  I was then called "A TOTAL NOOB!"

14 players meant playing winner takes all for a Mox Sapphire.  We cut to Top 8, after I lobbied saying that a 3-1 could miss on tie breakers if we cut to Top 4.  This ended up really mattering, as a cut to Top 4 would have kept one 9 pointer out.  Top 8 I beat Grim Long, and got paired with Belcher in the Top 4.  I had another Top 4 split offered, but it was turned down this time.  I lost to Belcher in 3, which went on to lose to Stax in the finals.  Fortunately, I was able to acquire a Mox Sapphire from the winner, which will be up for grabs at my next event.

And I managed to lose 2 game 1's with dredge. Most embarrassing =P Thanks for a great tourney, too bad we couldn't have had a better turnout.
