I was just wondering what everyone thinks is the most important prison in a format with TPS, Belcher, Slaver, Fish and Shop decks?

How would you rate

1. Null Rod
2. Chalice
3. Sphere
4. Thorn
5. Trinsphere
6. Tsabo's Web
7. Other

Obviously they work best in combination. Chalice 0 sphere is a great opener.
Chalice is the most versatile lock piece, so I'd have to place my vote there.

You're absolutely wrong on Trinisphere.   It only does stuff on turn 1.  I like things that are good no matter WHEN you draw them.

1 Chalice of the Void
2 Null Rod
3 Pithing Needle

If it actually resolves, In The Eye of Chaos is a house.  Unfortunately, it is very difficult to build a deck around it.

I'm the only other legal target, so I draw 6 cards, and he literally quits Magic.

It's almost impossible to say which card is the best lockpiece in magic since this totally depends on your matchup. Against slaver I prefer null rod instead of chalice or trinisphere where in a combo or fish matchup a first-turn chalice is a denive gift ...

greetings

elmar fud

ps: let's add another, not unimportant, lockpiece: leyline of the void

Lock pieces need to come as at least two resolved, timely, except for first turn Trinisphere, or 0th turn Leyline vs Ichorid/Storm w/o Tinker Colossus.

Chalice for 0 and Sphere of Resistance is best.

Not sure...null rod, nether void, sphere of resistance all comes to mind...Chalice can also be nutz, but i feel like it's mostly good in the opener. (Although sphere effects also need to be on the board early to really do anything)

You've never been to late game and said "X card beats me. I think I'll chalice it out now."? I've tested with and against stax a fairly large amount, and this type of play seems to happen a fair amount.

Imo it's the Null Rod.
It's disappointing that so many card which are very playable in Prison like Jester's Cap, Karn, Triskelion, Tormod's Crypt etc are nullified by it.
So the question is if 4 Null Rods are worth the significant changes in the deck build, regarding that including cards like Mana Crypt is questionable now and the reliance on nonstandard lands becomes higher.

When not playing the rod it depends on the opponent. Imo the spheres are the second best card in Prison, followed by Chalice, Smokestack, Tangle Wire.
