Planechase cards? Weird.

This announcement tells us almost nothing about what it even is...

Quote
Multiplayer Mayhem

The Planechase plane cards introduce a groundbreaking new way to experience planeswalking. Through this innovative new kind of card, two or more players can battle each other across a variety of diverse worlds, each with its own unique effect on the game. These thrilling new conditions add a whole new layer of chaos, meaning the only thing you can count on is unpredictability.

I'm totally down for the Vangard thing, at least on a casual level.  I've seen some of the cards, and read about a bunch on MTG.com, but never had a chance to buy them, or god forbid, collect them.

I'm guessing it's Vanguard except that both players play be the rules on the card. The Planes are probably basically Enchant Worlds. Because of the name, you probably change planes are specific intervals of the game too.

Eight rares is pretty high for a pre-con. That's interesting.

Are the Planechase plane cards going to be tournament legal too? or are just the cards in the decks? They weren't very clear about that. Also it does sound a lot like enchant worlds crossed with Vanguard which sounds pretty cool to me.

This thread's OP indicates that the cards won't be tournament legal.

It seems the thread says they are legal. , but not the weird ones.

I thought this was pretty neat.  I certianly wouldn't mind toting my stuff around in a yawg will themed back pack, as nerdy as that sounds.

Could potentially be Lotus Vale.

Unless that's on the "no reprints" list. I wouldn't know.

Has anyone played Fluxx?  It's another card game made by Wizards.  I'm betting that the Planechase cards are going to make the game function more like that.

Whoa, check this card out: http://forums.mtgsalvation.com/showthread.php?t=164343

I think that sets a record for mana accelleration for a land.

So the template for the new lands has been spoiled with the rules update article, does anyone think they will see play in this format?  My only thought right now is that it might be a way to get around other people playing sundering titan if he gets insanely popular again, otherwise no.

Holy fucking shit they changed a bunch of rules.

The battlefield thing I don't like, but I grok it since it is sort of weird to have zones with flavor names and zones without.  "This is the library, this is the graveyard, this is the removed-from-game-zone" won't register the same with new players as "this is the library, this is the graveyard, this is exile, this is the battlefield".  I don't like it, but I understand it.

They fucked around with combat pretty bad.  Damage doesn't go on the stack anymore, so no more Mogg Fanatic tricks.  You have to declare all of these effects during declare blockers now.  I'm really not very keen on this, even if it is rather nonsensical to sac a Mogg Fanatic while it's punching one guy to kill another guy.  To me this feels like a very functional aspect of the game has been pwned for the sake of making everything Make Moar Sense, so that blows.  I'm not sure I understand the need to put multiple blockers 'in order', but whatever.

The mana changes I guess are sleeker now, mana burn never really came up that often and there's not that often that you really want to float mana from one phase to another, so that's mostly fine with me?

Meh, I don't play often enough anymore for this shit to really bother me, but at the same time some of this stuff is like, why did you fuck with that?

Actually, these new lands are pretty decent in some 2 color decks.
'Could see a little play.

It's neat how Wizards succeeded in making these new lands
absolutely amazing for newer players. 'Very clever.

So what's better now, Mutavault or Mishra's Factory? Obviously, it depends on the deck. But man, Mishra's Factory just took a hit.

The new duals are a nice design, but I'm not sure they're better than shocklands.  They can't be searched w/ a fetch and I think that's a significant draw back.  However, for a budget player, they'll be pretty good.  Most of them run a good number of basics, so I wouldn't be surprised to see them in a tournament some day, just not at the top table.

Peace,

I don't really understand what you're saying here. It's probably something obvious I'm missing, but what?

Factory can still be declared as a blocker, then tapped.  You never needed to respond to damage on the stack with factory since tapping it before damage is stacked was no more disruptable and dealt an extra point of damage.

I thought you asked about Mutavault and Factory, not Mogg Fanatic?

Ugh, the first was a legitimate statement because I'd never gotten out of the habit of tapping Mishra's Factory after damage had gone on the stack. Then the second was a joke deflection, pointing out a card that actually does take a hit. Nevermind the fact that Mutavault and Mogg Fanatic aren't really comparable... So continue with other discussion.
