Not playing Chalice of the Void is absolutely 100% wrong. I tested my dredge list (Tony Lyskawa, 6th place Milwaukee 1/10/09) and found that without chalice, you can just get raced by Tezzeret and TPS. It's not worth not having that and unmask.

whats up with reviellark? Ever run into a situation where you can't get the full use out of it? Am I missing something besides bringing back two stichers or two cephalids?

CHalice of the void is amazing, i admit this, but i can get around crypt easily, ive only had 1 situation where chalice would e useful, and i am usually able to combo off before my opponent has the chance to search it out, and i feel running it in the board is pointless, cause 95% of the time, Ichorid wins game 1, so having it in game 2 is less effective then having Pithing needle...cause i wont be able to play it before they already have a crypt in play. and having been playing this deck for over a year and a half straight i am very comfortable playing without chalice..
as for Revielark....ive had to many situations where E truth just ruins my day, so being able to get back a revielark, and sack it to dread return or a cabal therapy to get back a HUGE grave troll and a zealot to win through E truth is to useful. not to mention that in the early game he alows you to create more Zombies then u would normally be able to, and if you have him in play with a cabal therapy in the yard, he creates a 2 for 1 effect off a Dread Return. allowing u to get back Cephalid Sage, and another useful Creature. ive been running him since he was created and i havent been dissapointed by him yet.
Eric, thanks for the comments on the list...i think i might remove the 3rd Gemstone mine to put in the 3rd fatesticher, i always have a large amount of mana sources with this list, so i dont feel cutting a land would hurt me that much.? any thoughts on the choice?

I would love to play against you with Tezzeret. You completely avoided my comments of Tezzeret and TPS just racing you, which may or may not have been intentional, but shows a lack of understanding how other decks try to stop your deck from functioning. People misplay their tormods crypts and other graveyard hate against Dredge, because they try to overall stop dredge. The key is that everything you do against them should be designed to time-walk you. If my opponent plays a Bazaar, activates it on turn 1, and discards 2 dredgers, I have no problem playing Tormods crypt and activating it right there to stop their dredge for a turn.

your right, i misunderstood what u meant about them racing me, i agree a well placed Crypt can be devastating, maybe i just havent played against enough people who can play the card against me correctly, i didnt mean to avoid your question at all, so my apologies for that. in my experiences with this deck, if my opponent is playing a fast combo deck and has a well placed crypt, it then comes down to the speed of the decks, and the skills of the players, meaning either one of us could make a game losing mistake, or a game winning play. maybe i am still misunderstanding your question, and if so, i apologize.

That said, I'm not on board with Master of Etherium. He plays a similar role to Goyf in GAT's SB. I never liked that plan, and I've always regretted playing it. That sounds like a compelling parallell example; can you elaborate on why you feel this way in these two cases. without chalice, you can just get raced by Tezzeret and TPS. Agreed. The point is to slow down Tez's (and TPS's) win condition/engine, not their hate.

[/quote] ok, now i understand what he is talking about, with that said, i completely agree, but in this list i cant see where i can fit it into the main, chalice has been one of my favorite cards since mirrodins release. I would like to be able to play it, I know its to disrupt my opponent and slow him down, and since i have a lack of chalice in the main, my only hope is to race him.

If you're looking for space for chalice, your mana base might be a good place to get a slot. Chalice is golden, and I was glad all day that Soly advised me to run it when I asked him for preliminary suggestions for an ichorid build. If you haven't already, you can take a look at the list I just won with in milwaukee to get an idea of the kind of numbers I favor, but our lists carry some obvious fundamental differences.

We had 13 this week, which is not far from the 17 needed for the Vintage Ranking System. We're seeing new faces every week, so our player base just keeps growing. I really want to see some of these events hit the 17 needed. This week I played vs Elves, TPS and then Barry's monster of a Dredge deck before drawing with JTL who was playing Demonic Attorney's new Thoughtcast creation. Thanks to everyone who supports these events. I look forward to expanding our community in 2009. Rank Name Points 1 James Tamulevich 10 Thoughtcast Painter 2 Eric Dupuis 10 Tezzeret 3 Chris Roberts 9 Tezzeret 4 Rich Shay 9 Meditate Remora 5 Barry Everson 9 Dredge 6 Steve Padina 6 Tezzeret 7 Louis Gentile 6 Goblins 8 Joe Gaylord 6 Elves 9 Jesse Martin 6 TPS 10 Andrew Krammen 3 RGBW Zoo 11 Matt Orphanello 3 Tezzeret 12 Matt MacCaulley 3 Tezzeret 13 Nick Vallis 3 GW Zoo

1st Eric Dupuis Tezzeret 2nd Nick Vallis GW Zoo 3rd Andy Farias Fish featuring Glen Elandra Archmage 4th Jesse Martin TPS We had 10 players this week. I ran the event off a computer at Scholar's, so I don't the the metagame info. Someone listing the rest of the players and their decks would be appreciated. That said, I'm not on board with Master of Etherium. He plays a similar role to Goyf in GAT's SB. I never liked that plan, and I've always regretted playing it. That sounds like a compelling parallell example; can you elaborate on why you feel this way in these two cases. In both cases, I feel that the aggro plan is a crap shoot at best. In Vintage, even the least broken decks can get busted draws. To assume a 3/3 or even a 5/5 Master is going to be good enough vs Fish is to assume they don't draw a fast mana hand, or have removal. I have since dropped the Welders, and I'm now fully using Tezzeret for the kill. I find that a creating an opening, then finishing the game is a much stronger line of play than hoping that a creature beatdown gets there. I've always felt this way though, alway dismissing the Negator plan out of combo decks boards. When a Ritual based deck goes for a turn 1 Negator, I rarely consider forcing, as I feel if I can't outrace Sui, my deck must be a pile.

Of the six missing decks, at least 2 were TPS, 2 Tez, and one Dredge. That would make for the following breakdown:
2 Tezzeret 3 TPS 1 Dredge 1 GW Fish 1 w/e the hell I was playing 1 Thoughtcast Painter 1 Unknown (Drain-based I think, probably Tez).
EDIT: Sorry Matt, I actually had you down as one of the known Tezzerets, I don't know why I didn't think a little harder on that one. Didn't know you were the Thoughtcast version though, I don't think you ever played one in our three games. The deck I wasn't sure about was Barry's friend.

Assuming that was mine... was playing the Thoughtcast Painter deck. First round lost to Pitch long after he had Lotus in his opening hand both games, and I did not have a counter, Second round lost to Andy's fish deck when I didn't realize he had Null Rod main deck after having not seen it for the first two games. Well played Andy!

Inkwell Leviathan was the only card I noticed, and that's only because my deck and the one I lent out ran 'em, lol.
Shay was playtesting Dreadstill, for legacy, using the land that gives your hand no maximum size. It was still a project deck, we learned quickly, as forgetting to put in FoW's and counterbalance hurts, lol...good times.

I actually got a ticket last night behind the building... There's the bank parking lot, which specifically has "Bank Customer Parking Only" signs all over it that everyone ignores, and the actual, legitimate parking garage right next to it. Still wicked sucks though.

I have no idea as i didn't play in the tournament...But i did test Hulk Smash a little while ago and it did quite well, fish and ichorid where the worst match-up's by far. So my guess would be yes, it might be psychatog as i believe that deck to be playable. Oh and i certainly hope it is /Zeus

I am very excited as well! will march 1st or march 8th be the official start date??? Also have you considered allowing proxys to encourage a larger participation and level of competition? I'm not pro proxy or anything but I think it would double the amount of people who would go because not a lot of locals have the cards to be competitive.

I'm working with Stillpoint to determine the best way to go about Proxies. My current thoughts is starting with some number of proxies, then lowering it over a month or so down to zero. The start date will be the 8th or the 15, depending on if I go to the GP, which is less than 50/50 at this point.
