I had a quick look on deckcheck for Hermit Blaster decks and it looks like the Oath sideboard plan has met with some success. Here's a decklist by Victor Fraile that uses it:

I'd like to see something that protects the Hermit against darkblast, since that card is everywhere. Haste, protection/shroud and removing Darkblast would seem to be the best options. I've come up with these so far: Concordant Crossroads, Steely Resolve and Delay. All are super shitty except concordant and that one isn't really great when facing anything that beats your face in.

If people are bringing darkblast and etc vs you..you may wish to have a transformational sideboard.

As most people posting on this topic, I have taken an interest in this deck idea and would like to share my list.  My list includes a transformational sideboard, which I like best so far of the sideboards suggested. It adds the element of suprise game 2 and if there is a game 3 you can side back to the hermit kill or stay with the Oath kill, but best of al can pretend to change back, but not do so and your opponent doesn't know what your doing.  I also like how the transformational sideboard as stated before gets around what most people would be siding in against you Game 2 such as leylines, crypt's, relic's and needle's etc which hopefully strenghthens your postboard game and weakends their deck at the same time. Anyway, here's my list with sideboard, thoughts and comments appreciated?

Hermit My Oath, Oath My hermit

Polluted Delta x 4
Wooded Foothills x1
Windswepth Heath x1
Underground Sea x2
Bayou x2
Tropical Island x3

Black Lotus
mox ruby
mox sapphire
mox pearl
mox jet
mox emerald
lotus petal
mana crypt

Lord of Extinction x1
Dragon Breath x1
Sutured Ghoul x1
Dread Return x1

Street Wraith x4
Narcoeba x4
Hermit Druid x4
Progenitus x1

cabal therapy x2
Thoughtseize x2
force of will x4
echoing truth x1
chain of vapor x1
brainstorm x1
ancestral recall
mystical tutor
merchant scroll
vampiric tutor
demonic tutor
imperial seal
time walk
strategic planning x4

Sideboard[/b]

Oath of Druids x4
Forbidden Orchard x4
thoughtseize x2
Akroma Angle of Wrathx1
Hellkite Overlordx1
misdirection x2 (subject for change)
(open Slot x1)

So I Side Out

-4 narcomoeba
-4 street wraith
-1dread return
-1sutured ghoul
-1lord of extinction
-4 hermit druid

Side In

+4 Forbidden Orchard
+4 Oath of Druids
+2 thoughtsieze
+1 Akromna Angel of Wrath
+1 Hellkite Overlord
+2 Misdirection (or something else/suggestions?)
+1 (open Slot/ Suggestions?)

Yes, I understand I'm not running tinker darksteel mainboard, but instead Progenitus. For now Im giving up the backup kill for balls to the wall Hermnit Kill Game 1. Progenitus Still gives me an extra turn like darksteel does by getting shuffled back into my progenitus only library. Plus, Progenitus is a creatures I rather Oath up second game along with Hellkite and Akroma.  I prefer running the 3 creatures in my oath deck compared to 2 and a blessing. Just preference for me usually.

Do you feel comfortable devoting the entire sideboard to oath?

There is a maindeck Pendelhaven in the original list, but that won't protect you from Darkblast EOT, dredge, then Darkblast on their turn.

Another idea I am flirting with is Llanowar Reborn (CIPT, taps for G, graft 1), which would protect you from EOT Darkblast, dredge, then Darkblast on their turn.  Being a CIPT land sucks, but the graft power itself is active the turn you play it, so it's fair as long as you don't count it as a mana source.

Has anyone been trying out Lim-Dul's Vault?  It's a 1 card combo, so it seems like the perfect fit for the deck.  Plus it's blue.

llanowar reborn does not work against blast, draw/dredge, blast on the same turn thou.

Well to be honest I haven't really had a chance to play test this in any tournament environment or against my play group yet.  We meet on tuesdays so maybe Ill have some more information then, but I can say I don't really care for the tendrils kill sideboard idea, not that its bad exaclty, just that I find this oath idea more interesting.

New approach to finding a solution.
Hall of the Bandit Lord.
Hall of the Bandit Lord comes into play tapped.
Tap, Pay 3 life: Add 1 to your mana pool. If that mana is spent on a creature spell, that creature has haste.

This don't slow you down at all since you gain back the turn you lost waiting for it to untap due to the creature having haste.  And unless there is some crazy rule change I don't know about, you can activate your druid and not care at all about what happens to it.

No but this land wouldnt be ideal as your first land drop, because under less than ideal circumstances if you dont have a green mana source already in hand you will end up  {G} short on turn 2 since you need  {1} {G} {G} to both play and activate.

I wouldn't be cutting green mana to add this in.  And you are going to have *some* drawback to protecting your combo.  None of the options (aside from FoW) are going to be free.  Though it does beg the question of whether or not ESG is worth it in the deck.

I know this is on a bit of a tangent, but the discussion of protection had me thinking.
Would a singleton ancient grudge main be worthwhile to deal with relic/crypt post hermit activation? As I see it, if they crypt in response, they get your current graveyard. If they crypt after activation (a better time) then you flashback for G and destroy the crypt.
It would be one card, and deal with the most common main deck graveyard hate.

What?  If you mill your deck with a Crypt in play, then when you try to Grudge (or honestly try to cast anything) they will crypt in response and you will die.

This doesn't work.  They sacrifice Crypt as part of the cost of activating its ability, and you lose your yard.  In fact, even if you could somehow destroy it in response, it doesn't matter because they ability would still resolve.

4 taiga
4 bazaar
1 stomping ground
4 riftstone portal
3 R/G fetch
1 mox emerald
1 lotus petal
1 black lotus
1 mana crypt
4 chrome mox
4 esg
4 crop
4 hermit
4 narcomeba
4 squee
4 anger
4 survival fittest
1 bridge below
1 dread return
1 ingot chewer
1 mogg fanatic
1 cabal therapy
1 balance
1 wispmare
1 suture ghoul
side
3 ingot chewer
4 true believer (tormod, tendrils)
3 wispmare
3 mogg fanatic (jailer, ichorid)
2 null rod

pretty consistent turn 2, w resiliency to just keep going through disruption. turn 1 is possible by starting w bazaar, dumping anger and having 3 more mana to crop for taiga, and cast + activate hermit.

Here's the list I've been testing:

MANA BASE (21)
4 City of Brass
4 Gemstone Mine
4 Forbidden Orchard
1 Pendelhaven
1 Black Lotus
1 Mox Emerald
1 Mox Sapphire
1 Mox Jet
4 Elvish Spirit Guide

THE COMBO (11)
4 Hermit Druid
4 Narcomoeba
1 Sutured Ghoul
1 Dragon's Breath
1 Dread Return

TUTOR/DRAW (16)
1 Ancestral Recall
1 Brainstorm
1 Ponder
3 Sleight of Hand
4 Street Wraith
1 Vampiric Tutor
4 Worldy Tutor
1 Demonic Tutor

MISC (12)
2 Cabal Therapy
3 Thoughtseize
1 Chain of Vapor
4 Force of Will
1 Time Walk
1 Darksteel Colossus

SIDEBOARD
3 Chain of Vapor
4 Leyline of the Void
8 TBD

Some comments:

Pendelhaven: Yeah, I don't know about this; the ability has yet to be relevant in a game. On the other hand I've never drawn this and wished it were Lotus Petal, which is what I would probably replace it with.

Darksteel Colossus: Note that right now it's effectively completely dead, since I don't run Tinker (and don't want to add more artifacts in order to do so; off-color mana is next to useless for this deck.) All it does is buy me an extra turn in the event I need to attack twice (rare), and lets me activate the Druid during my upkeep (to get around, e.g., Tangle Wire). I'm considering cutting it for another Thoughtseize.

Force of Will: Extremely necessary in my opinion. An alternative would be to greatly increase the black disruption package by adding Duress/Unmask/etc, but something must be done to protect the Druid, as well as stop random nonsense like Tormod's Crypt, Time Vault, Reanimate, Meddling Mage, etc etc. The combo is just too slow to be competitive otherwise.

Sleight of Hand: Ugh. I need *something* that lets me draw tutored cards ASAP, but Sleight of Hand is horrible as a Brainstorm substitute. I tried Night's Whisper but it's too expensive and non-blue. I'll have to keep thinking about these slots.

Sorry for the resurrection of the thread, but the thread was pretty interesting, and then it suddenly stopped... I was wondering if someone has made some new lists or has some interesting approach to this deck ?

Welcome to TMD,

first of all I would like to point you towards our rules, especially this one (Rule V.I) regarding thread necromancy. It would be better to PM the previous posters of this thread with questions or start a new thread regarding this deck.

Horrible way to try and necro a thread. You are adding nothing to this deck discussion. You seem to want more to read about an "interesting deck". You are better off proposing a list and asking for critiques or just private messaging a couple of the threads posters that added most to the previous discussion.

This is very close to backseat modding. Although it is appreciated that users help us moderators, simply reporting the post would have been enough. Marske

Nether Void is absolutely terrible. I can't envision any game I've played with The Deck where I would have wanted everything to be mana leaked.
