In this week's article, I take a comprehensive look at Dredge decks, across the major formats. This includes common sideboard cards used by Dredge and against Dredge, as well as typical timing interactions and lines of play. If you have ever played with or against a deck that abused the Dredge mechanic, I think you'll enjoy this one: http://www.starcitygames.com/magic/misc/18042_The_Long_Winding_Road_The_Undead_Survival_Guide.html

that was great, the only thing i missed was your thoughts on pyroclasm etc cards against zombie tokens. but very comprehensive if you need a dredge primer.

Loved the survival guide tie in, and great article overall. I think the article was right on target, hitting a wide swath of ideas while still being easy to read and follow. Not a lot of depth, but plenty of breadth. It's a shame you couldn't comment on the anti-graveyard trap. I don't think it will totally change the landscape for dredge decks, but it does add to the list of headaches.
Personally, I think it beats out extirpate in (almost) all cases, and a case could be made that its better then crypt as well (easier to play around chalice then to catch 1 of potentially 4-5 different hate cards in their hand w/ twerp). Leyline and Jailer as still balls good, but as you've pointed out elsewhere, variation is often the key to catching dredge with its pants down. The fact that its hate that can't be hit with chain of vapor is huge.
I really have to say, you've been an excellent speaker for the format. Hopefully many more articles to come.

really enjoyed this article - thanks for writing it! On top of a very experienced Ichorid player giving me a really good talk through of how to play against the deck at the weekend, this has definitely piqued my interest in the archetype... better get me building me a dredge deck..

Voltron, lets discuss extended dredge.
Interesting post and I'd be happy to discuss this, but... I'm not sure this is the place to discuss Extended Dredge. Can you repost what you wrote on the Starcity forums? I'd definitely be open to discussing on there and I'm sure you'd get other input as well. My teammates have built a few versions that seem to be doing well thus far in testing (although it is, admittedly, very early). This could and should have been a PM. -GodderEveryone else - glad you liked it!

I've split Stamford's post into its own topic and moved it to here.

Elias, was another great read. I'm not extremely interested in playing Dredge but the article still appealed to me as I would like to know tricks to play against it. Also liked how you broke the deck down explaining how it plays and what it does to appeal to all levels.

best article Ive read re:dredge
our testing says ichorid (the card) is obsolete next to narcomeba+bloodghast. if anything maybe 3-3-2 split between narco, bloodguy, icky, to combat extirpate.

Vroman, I think you have hit it exactly on the head, Ichorid - the card is going to see less play - Narco is superior and would see play over Ichorid if you could play more then 4 and Bloodghast is better and will see more play. Ichorid decks will contine to be named that way but more and more they will become Dredge decks that happen to have some Ichickys in them.
