IntroductionI picked up Vintage in 2004-2005. During that time, New England was the undisputed mecca of Type One. We had weekly Mox tournaments with attendance figures routinely between 40-50 players. The proving ground for the best of the best, Waterbury, was a part of the phenomenon that was New England Vintage. The best New England players were regularly counted as among the best Vintage players anywhere. Zherbus, founder of the epicenter of the format, TMD, was originally a New England Vintage player. In short, Vintage was born in New England. And now, some people are saying that it's died here. But I think they're wrong. Yes, I've heard talk about the tournaments that happen in New York these days. The bridge that N.Y.S.E. has built between our format and the pros. The 50 player turnouts that New England used to have. The willingness to embrace Vintage as not just a hobby, but a way of life. I've heard people say that New York in 2010 is the new be-all, end-all of Vintage. But we New England Vintage players don't die. We sleep. We wait. The Time And The PlaceFellow New Englanders, it's time for us to ante up our quarters, we have a new challenger. On Saturday, August 28, 2010, a tournament will happen in Hadley, Massachusetts. The invite has already gone out to the New York Vintage crowd. It's time for us to prove which region is supreme. The DetailsSo far, two competitions are slated. The first one will be the Elite's Race to the Top, where representative teams of 3 players from each region will try to accumulate as many Swiss points and Top 8 match wins as possible. The team with the highest point total will win the contest for their region and a special prize of significant value to be announced soon. The teams will be chosen by a vote on TMD later on. The second competition is the Money in the Bank contest. This is more straightforward. We total the overall amount of prizes won by each region. The region taking home the most in prizes wins. What You Need to DoPOST IN THIS THREAD IF YOU THINK YOU'LL ATTEND. I'll leave this thread up for a week or two to gauge interest, then each region will get the chance to vote for its team, out of the players who posted here. If you haven't posted in this thread, you won't be eligible to be on a team, so everyone should post here if they think they might go. Here are links to mapquest directions to the area from the various major cities: From Selden, NY From Albany, NYFrom Poughkeepsie, NYFrom Boston, MAFrom Providence, RIFrom Enfield, CTFrom Salem, NH

During that time, New England was the undisputed mecca of Type One. The Mecca of T1 is, and has always been, whatever room Steven Menendian happens to be blessing with his presence at the time.

Vintage is a lovely format, it's too bad so few people can play because the supply of power is so small.
Chess really changed when they decided to stop making Queens and Bishops. I'm just glad I got my copies before the prices went crazy.

Without the Philly players being there, isn’t this sort of like the NIT? I mean, it’s cute and all…

FWIW, this is really cool. I think this is an awesome idea and look forward to bringing a posse of folks to smash the team winner of this challenge.

Why do I feel like this is just going to be one awesome trash talking thread?
I'm totally down for being part of this grudge match, though I didn't realize that New England had tournaments anymore or even players as Rich Shay is living in Penn and Brassman seems to be too busy going to GPs and things like that.
Either way, t00l better not pussy out as he always bitches about Jimmy and I not going up there enough.

Who was it that said something like, "Is this what Magic is like outside of New England?? DO THEY SPEND THEIR TIME HITTING THINGS WITH ANIMAL BONES?!?!" I think they gave non-New Englanders too much credit.

I have pretty limited experience about T1 outside of New England (Top2 Philly, topsplit GenCon prelim, X-1 Eudomania).
I hear they play with creatures, which is kinda cute.

That's right, you were the speedbump Hornung drove over in the finals last fall. I wish I could've played in that tournament.

That's right, you were the speedbump hornung drove over in the finals last fall. Love that people still play tezz in more primitive metas. We still have people down here that play Tezz to some success, then again, it's Brooklyn's Chris Pikula, so NY is still awesome.

We know you're some kind of prodigy and all, but did you stop to consider for a minute what your life would be like if you didn't drop out of middle school to play Magic instead? You might have learned basic US geography!

That guy has his own Magic card, so... yeah.
Sure but it's Meddling Mage, that card is serious trash. If you're going to have your own magic card, it better be serious business. Like a 1/3.... for ONE MANA.

1 Mana?
I mean, I play Dredge and Oath, so I'm pretty sure all creatures just come into play free from my graveyard or library. I know not of this "mana" of which you speak with regard to creatures.

I'm working on getting the All Star team together. May God have mercy on your souls. Holy Friggin shit son, you're flying in the Euro's ? I should pack ! I've heard people say that New York in 2010 is the new be-all, end-all of Vintage. Sorry to burst your bubble but OBV Europe (BoM, Eur0Vino) is the be-all, end-all of Vintage... I should let you small fries worry about who's second best, but as a Dutchie I couldn't resist chiming in on this here thread.... Maybe it's time for you guys to come put up or shut up and attend a real event across the pond.....
