Hey guys,

My name is Leonardo Indini (Leooooh on The Mana Drain), from Brazil and this is our first report from the Brazilian Vintage community. We found a very good local shop (Universo Paralelo), with a good environment and awesome people. This is the first of many events, since we are spreading the word about the  format in a lot of brazilian sites related to Magic. Standard and extended formats are played a lot here, with an increasing number of legacy players and tourneys, but Vintage is still a legend. Few people know the format, and the rare tourneys that happened in the past, were sanctioned, with no proxies allowed, decreasing even more the number of people.

About 6 months ago, 3 friends (Maurão, Ricardo and Prata) and I (Leonardo) began to meet monthly to playtest some Vintage and discuss about the format. Those meetings caught the attention of some other players interested on Vintage and our numbers began to rise, mainly because we allowed an unlimited number of proxies so that anyone could use Moxes, and other pieces of powers and see how fun the format can be.

Now, with a good place to play our monthly Vintage touneys, we will spread even more the word about the format here in Brazil. Our first Tourney at the Universo Paralelo had only 8 players, but now we could double the number of people. Our goal for the next event is too keep this number, or even increase it to 20+ people, and in time began to offer Vintage cards as prizes.

So, after this little intro, we had a 4 round swiss (14 players), with no cut to the top4. The top4 players of the swiss took store credits as the prize. We had an unlimited number of proxies.

I'm Intrigued by this Golden Army.  Why the Taigas/Fetches, instead of 5-color lands?  I'm thinking with 5-C lands, you could have a slightly more diverse sideboard, if you needed to.  Is Precursor Golem soft to people running Steel Sabotage, or has that not come up?

I'm the only other legal target, so I draw 6 cards, and he literally quits Magic.

Terrorists searching in vain for these powerful weapons have the saying "Bill Copes spitteth, and he taketh away."

Hey Abdullha,

The early versions of this list had a 5c mana base, but after some testings, I decided to keep it RG due to the fact that 5c manabases are not good. Also, when I was using a 5c manabase, I saw that most of my sb cards were red and green, so I decided to make the manabase more solid by turning it just to RG. The reason for adding Green is easy....Nature's Claim and Ancient Grudge. Claim was added to help fight an early Oath as well as to attack MUD lists alongside with Ancient Grudge, that works really well with Bazaar. The rest of the sb is standard I think, with not so much dredge hate bacause few people play this deck here. I do agree with you that a 5c mana base would give a more diverse sideboard, but they need to print something better then Gemstone mine. I only run 2 crucibles, and without them, this land becomes even worse for this kind of strategy, that wantsto deploy a threat every turn.

Now, the Precursor Golem issue. Well, in the 4 rounds of swiss a faced an UBR Remora Tezz (2-0) with steel sabotage on the sb, but Chalice @1 on g2 prevented them to be cast, a BR Control (2-1) with Shattering Spree in the sb but I never saw them, only an Extirpate on Precursor in g2, a GW Hate (2-1) with Swords/Nature's Claim/path to Exile that hit my Precursor in g2, followed by 3 Relic Warders that easily put me out of the game and in the final round a BGW Hate (2-0) with swords in the sb that hit one Precursor, but I was abble to find another with Bazaar and Welder and win g1. This is a lot of removal don't you think? And Swords/Path/Spree/Claim are more crippling than Steel Sabotage.

So my idea of Precursor, is that it is a 9/9 for 5 mana. So taking a removal or a bounce on Precursor is the same as in normal critter, UNLESS you have a Lodestone Golem in the game. But if you are near victory, or have enough lock pieces that will grant you victory, why risk everything casting a Lodestone Golem to see all them bounced or killed? Sometimes you will have to risk it, but I can tell you that Precursor is sick. Huge clock and amazing sinergy with welders.

I hope I could answer your question. If you wanna keep discussing about the deck and card choices (that would be great...having opinions is always good), feel free to post them here or to send me a message that I will answer them as soon as possible.

I saw that you posted them on Morphling. Thanks a lot Tobi. We are just starting to spread the word about the format here in São Paulo, and I hope to see more players in the upcoming events. I am still waiting for the decklist of 3rd player. Hope to get it soon. Next event will be on April 16th, and I will sure post it on TheManaDrain..
