Some folks that had been hoping for a format shakeup from WotC with this latest announcement were disappointed as no changes were made to Vintage.

I was in the modo classifieds and you could literally watch the price of Jace go down.  60 became 55 became 50 became 45 became 40 became 35.  I bought at 33, but it's settling around 40-45 right now.

Menendian and I co-wrote an article arguing for the unrestriction of Fact or Fiction (linked in my sig), but speaking generally: despite all they've done to remove chaff from the restricted list there's still a lot of chaff left.

I get the feeling that the decision about standard dominated the time the DCI spent on managing formats this quarter, which is unfortunate but perhaps necessary understandable.

Vintage is a lovely format, it's too bad so few people can play because the supply of power is so small.

Chess really changed when they decided to stop making Queens and Bishops.  I'm just glad I got my copies before the prices went crazy.

Also, they just released an Event Deck on June 10th containing two Stoneforges.  Their sole purpose was to be bought and played in Standard events.  Hilarious

It seems clear they didn't bother with other formats this time because Standard is at least a thousand times (possibly 10,000 or 100,000 times) as important to their business, and if Eternal players are literally only asking for some "would-be-nice" unrestrictions/unbans, I can understand that they wouldn't want to bother cluttering up the announcement.

That's my assessment as well.

All magic players should read Aaron's explanation though.

I really hope this is not the case. Wizards can't even devote 5 minutes to evaluating the fact that Burning Wish's inclusion on the B & R list is a joke? If they can't take the time to make some simple and obvious changes then that indicates how little they seem to know about the current state of our format. They make an explanation everytime they ban/restrict, how about an explanation for why certain cards are still there?

that was a really interesting article for anyone who is interested in what factors are behind banning a card. Specifically, the conversation about how something can be a skill tester and unfun, and where he draws the line.
