With the deepest sorrow, we let you know you that Rudy van Soest aka Morefling has passed away. We appreciate that many of the newer TMD members will not know him, as he was most active on these boards several years ago. Nevertheless, we believe that several of you might remember him and we thought it appropriate to inform you.
Rudy suffered from Myotonic Dystrophia. This disease, which is hereditary, slowly weakens your muscles, which in the end caused cardiac arrest and his passing away. Fortunately, he passed away while sleeping and as such, suffering was minimal.
Aged only 29, obviously this is much too soon, but the clock kept ticking away and caught up with him...We're gonna sorely miss him, his antics, joyfulness and drivenness towards result and winning, always keeping fun in the mix as well.....

Rest in peace, buddy. The good times we had will not be forgotten. Here's a picture I just pulled from my hard drive. Never thought I'd have to add a black border to it. Not the best of pictures, but those who knew Rudy, will recognize him. In any case, this is how I'll remember him...

MoreFling - because you can never have too much fling! Our times on TMD didn't overlap that much, but I always thought he was a standup guy. Sad news. We'll carry his memories forward.

Very sad...
29 is much too young to go, but at least it was during his sleep. I remember his posts on here and other MtG forums. He will be missed, but remembered.

This is devastating news. I had no idea that Rudy had a health condition. The memories of my visit to Holland and Berlin with the ISP team, and their visit to my place are so vivid, and Rudy seemed so healthy, that this news seems impossible.
Will there be a service? If so, when is the time/date? I will do everything I can to be there.

It was shocking for all of us. Since quitting Vintage, I kinda fell out of touch with Rudy, but I'm told that it completely blindsided even those of us who knew of his medical condition.
I understood that a service for Rudy will be held on Monday (July 9th) at 14:30 in the Crematorium in Heeze (near Eindhoven). It will be the most horrible kind of reunion.

Obviously the service will be next monday JULY 9th. If you feel compelled to send a card or something of the like, please feel free to do so. Rudy will be missed and it will be good for his family to know that there are many who have him in their thoughts. The address is; Fam. Van Soest Den Wingerd 4 5725 CM Asten-Heusden The Netherlands

Obviously the service will be next monday JULY 9th. You are correct, sir. July, not June of course...I'm a little off my game. I edited the original post to give the correct date. Thanks for the heads up.

Richard If you want to come, please let me know. I can put you up for a day or two at my place, as well as pick you up at Schiphol airport or at the train station in Eindhoven if you feel like coming here immediately. Just send me an email or PM on TMD if/when you will arrive. Hero

I just found out tonight.
He was a core person of the community. Not just from the beginnings I've made, but the elite that was spawn in the coming years.
You younger players, look to your left and to your right. Remember who made the game fun for you. MoreFling helped bring insane enjoyment to the game for me, even when Vintage was an uncarved stone. He assisted this format by being a part of those years for more than most of you will ever fathom.
Rudi...we shared an MTGO account, but you gave so much more indirectly than anyone will ever realize. You were an unsung pillar.

Like i said, I still miss it from time to time. I guess that's why I could never bring myself to sell my stuff. Even though my gf keeps nagging me to do so Zherbus: I did Zherbus: I was married Zherbus: it all had to go Zherbus: now... I wish I hadn't Bram: Yeah, that was Rudy allright. A smart-ass. Zherbus: but I'm buying my way back in, on mtgo Zherbus: He'd want that... so he could play on my account Zherbus: he was a fucking leech, but he was MY leech
Rudy, thanks for the years of friendship. I'm sorry I was not there for the last few of them. I will always regret that. -Z

Can't believe I'm seeing this now. Hadn't looked at TMD in years, but I had thought of Rudy recently so came to pop in.
We spent more time together in the IRC chans than just about anyone. What a time it was to be alive. And what a time now.
I suppose no one will see this. But I love you all as our magic family, just the same.
