I think karn would be the most fitting.

I think I like this suggestion better than my idea for Sphere. I'm going to reach back out to my guy (whom I'll reveal once I have confirmed everything).

Smokestack would make sense as well.  Seeing as the name of the event has the card in the title.

I heard the T/O of the event was partial to a certain golem.  I might have just been hearing things...

Now that the attendee cap has been lifted, is there any possibility that more qualifiers will be run?

Yes, there will be more qualifiers.

At the moment, it looks like there will be three qualifiers at The Player's Guild, two qualifiers at MVPLS, a qualifier or two at Top Deck Games, and a considerable number of qualifiers at Comic Book Depot (two in April, two in May, maybe one in June, before the June 15th event).

Additionally, I'm still open to qualifiers being run by T/O's who aren't from the NY/NJ/PA area, but am waiting to hear back from a couple of T/O's.

The final details have been worked out, and I'm very happy to say that Poxy has taken on the work of doing an alteration for me.  I've seen mockups, and it looks awesome.  I'm looking forward to unveiling it on TMD, a week or two before the event!

On top of that, in case you haven't seen it in the other thread, Brandon Brown, co-owner of The Player's Guild, has created the following awesome mat, which will be given away at The Player's Guild N.Y.S.E. Open Qualifier on 4/6:

Mishra would be proud!

If you're within reasonable driving distance, it's definitely worth taking a trip out to The Player's Guild to support a couple of good guys, the Vintage format, and do your best to win that awesome mat!

Holy crap, awesome.

If it were instead Karn holding onto the Empire State Building with his left arm and reaching for a passing bi-plane with his right, a la King Kong (Karn Kong!), I could die a happy man.

I'm pretty sure that if the background was altered to be the New York City skyline, it would be a crying shame to not have Karn wearing the Statue of Liberty's crown while holding her torch. Wink

I'd like to include her somehow, but it felt wrong to have Lady Liberty represented, given that Karn's off to eat your Moxen and his buddy Smokestack is off to destroy your lands.

Also, in talking to Poxy today, I finally discovered that the reason why I spent $2,000 on 'Karn's Rescue' was so that we could have a correct representation of Karn's legs...

There is no way to express how exited I am for this event.  People in the Boston area are already getting pumped for the Qualifier we'll be running at Pandemonium.   This is going to be a great bolster for the North East Vintage scene in general.

I'll be bringing along my Art League deck and a preliminary build of the Gen Con Cube for some downtime fun.

Might have more art related stuff, but no details yet.

I have updated the information about proxies, which you should read if you will be using proxies at this event.  In order to ensure that the games are enjoyable for everyone, this will be strictly enforced.

Additionally, as I have saved some money from what I had budgeted, I'll be having a second security guard on site.  There are cameras in the venue, there will be security, and there will be absolutely no tolerance, whatsoever, for theft.  If you are caught stealing, you will be stopped, you will be arrested and charges will be pressed.

On a happier note, we've got an N.Y.S.E. Open qualifier being run at Depot this weekend, and there are several running in the near future in Massachusetts, Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

Are peeled Foil cards like I've used for my entire time playing Vintage acceptable?  It's not explicitly stated as such by the guidelines, but I think it is essentially the same thing as using Acetone.

Are they thinner than normal cards?  If they are, then that's a no go.  I'm going to double check on this.

A peeled foil should be the same as a normal card with all the ink wiped off.  They print normal cards by putting the ink directly onto card stock and foils by first applying the foil layer then the ink.

Fair enough. In that case they'd be allowed.

Do I really need to write out the text of cards that everyone already knows? For example, do I need to have the oracle text for a proxied time vault? I have been know to proxy some loose ones before (night's whispers, seasinger, etc) But I think everyone knows what timevault, mana drain, or cards of the like does.

Given that I've made nearly all the proxies that you use, I think you meant to write 'do I need to have you make me these proxies'.

The answer to your question is yes.  Having good proxies shouldn't be a problem.  A good proxy describes what a card does.  It has the proper mana cost.  It has the full name.  It lists the card type.

I think this was similar to the question I wanted to ask, but in regards to moxen proxies, for instance, I have a really nice set of full art mox proxies that I've been using for a long time, but they do not have all of the information on them (read: full art with artifact border)  should I start working on making a new set?

I suppose my biggest concern was that if someone with proxies played a neophyte (and I know of a few who will be playing) that the neophyte would be at a disadvantage for not being able to read (or re-read) a card.  I suppose everyone knows what the Moxen do.

My concerns were geared towards things like Mana Drain (where I've seen things written like UU, Mana Drain, and no more information), and cards where the second part of the card (adding mana in the next main phase, adding or removing counters, etc.) gets left off, and suddenly someone's calculations went to hell because something important wasn't properly explained.

I'm open to leaving some leeway with Moxen, Lotus, Recall and Time Walk, but things like Time Vault, Mana Drain, et al, need to be fully explained.

That's fair.  I think this is good dialogue to have.  And in this light, in regard to foreign cards as Italian drains are rather popular, but I also have several other foreign staples that will be in my deck
